Pistol Is A Sidearm, Not A Railgun.

I don't know if the insane accuracy of the pistol is being fixed in 1.1 or not, but all it takes is a script kiddy and a bit of autofire scripting, and the pistol is better than the LMG. It makes so very little sense to have the Pistol, a backup weapon, a supplement to the LMG, be preffered over the LMG. Longer barrel = better accuracy, but that's not being shown by the current model.

I'm sure a few of you agree.

    I'm not going to argue why the Devs did it that way or if its an oversight, but when I am teaching my CS clan-mates how to play NS, I tell them that if they're a Marine guarding a long area where the aliens have to cover some ground before they get to you, empty your pistol first. Their CS aiming skills should take out a skulk or two on a single clip, and if anything gets too close just pull out the LMG and spray.

    I first noticed this tactic by someone on a pub wearing a clan tag, and started to try it out. Works wonders in the opening game.

    The pistol will definitely be changing for NS 1.1. I will leave it at that for now.

    awwww...but the pistol is cool. I like the fact that it fires as fast as you hit the button...stupid script kiddies..ruin everything.

    I would love to use the pistol more often, but my computer suffers from a bad case of "Pistol Lag". I can never get more than 2 shots off (usually less) in 10 seconds. I would be frantically hitting my mouse button tryin to get it to fire, but the marine must be falling asleep on me or something. Not a problem with the game I assume, just my terrible comp.

    Yea, I'm glad they are changing it. Often times kiddies with scripts are able to take out fades ridiculously well. Fire at it with a round with LMG then use pistol (aim and make sure to hit it, script fires all bullets) thats 200 damage with one click....kinda hurts

    Anyway, to answer Sarges elaborate question, i think the pistol will fire alot slower. Thats about it i think...i mean..what else can you do with it?

    Well, i guess you could change the design of the pistol, but thats not really a game-changing element. My bet is on a slower fire rate. Or a lower damage rate.

    Well, why shouldnt the pistol be accurate? it is being fired by well trained soldiers wearing a form of power armor. With nanotech backing up their aim and coordination.

    The distances involved in NS are not over 30 meters. I have no trouble hitting a target with a pistol from 1890 at 30 meters. So I would imagine unless the TSA moved back to a smoothbore black powder design their pistols are a bit better than the one I can shoot so well.

    PS: you should really check out the world record for a revolver. Its close to 12 shots dead center in less than 3 seconds.

    I think the only thing I would change with the pistol is the rate of fire. Right now, it is way too fast, and makes it very difficult for skulks to satisfy their hunger.

    They're going to change the pistol? To what? How? The only reason anyone uses it as it stands is becuase of it's insane accuracy. If 1.1 has a pistol that fires with "just" the accuracy of the lmg(which to my ex cs eyes is beautifully accurate, I admit), they'll be no reason to use the tiny clipped thing. In a game consisting of exactly /6/ weapons, I think it's okay to ask for a little balance BETWEEN the weapons, thus giving you a reason to use any at all most any time. Nerf the pistol, and you may as well take it out. I chuck mine on spawn anyway, ever since finding out what you carry slows you down. Spawn, lmg ammo, chuck the pistol, get on with your short marine life going alot faster than you were.

    Yet another thing brought up and nerfed, I guess....though he DID just say "change". I could see a little accuracy drop if...I dunno..the clip size doubled or something, or you could carry more than a TOTAL of 4 clips, all 10 shots each....but I state agian, unless they turn that thing into some .50 calibur monstor that fires once every second but'll drop a carapced skulk at 50 yards, nearly any change will probably just make it even less loved than it is.

    Don't say that till you see it. I am just SPECULATING but I bet damages for weapons will be tweaked as well, on marine and alien side. This is just a GUESS, but it sounds like something that might be done. But as for pistol, I dunno what is gonna happen. I posted a whole variety of changes that could happen. We'll have to wait n see.

    if it wasn't for ways to fire the pistol absurdly fast, it'd be 100% perfect as a weapon.

    and folk, it's not just people who can finger mash. there <b>are</b> scripts that empty the clip almost instantly. I've wrote one myself for demonstration purposes.

    Ontopic:
    Pistol is the only weapon Marines have to use in long ranges and which actually is effective(does a lot damage/bullet). So hopefully they won't change it too much.

    If the devs could change one weapon drasitcally, which would it be?

    In my opinion, I would vote for the LMG. If it did a little less damage, but, let's say, a 75 clip, I think that would be great. For some of us marines with a terrible shot (Hate to admit it...but I am one of them) that would be a great improvement.

    As for the weapon that should stay as is...THE SHOTGUN. I love that weapon, and it seems to me,it is VERY under appreciated. A great whallop in a small priced pouch, a very good weapon for early,mid and late parts of ANY game. A HA squad wouldn't be complete without a shottie up front or guarding the back.

    I agree with you whole heartedly Sarge, on both the lmg(well, minus a damage kick down) and the shotgun....hmm....actuelly they could tighten that cone of fire up a FRACTION, /but/...still. I agree.

    It's just I like the pistol, that's all. It's the only way to hit a lerk some times, it's the weapon of choice in hallways and any other situation that requires accuracy..I just don't want it "messed" with, for fear any change will be negative.

    i love the pistol as is. i think i heard somewhere that the proposed change is to make a mandatory millisecond delay in firing, so the pistol will still be awesome for legit people, but not a railgun for skr1pt3rs.

    i would never use a railgun type script, i would rather not miss with a full clip, if you know what i mean

    The pistol is much better in long range and its good that way.
    Try some aiming between the shots and its great.

    um, the only pet peeve I have with the pistol is that I *LOSE* it whenever someone gives me mines... can't I just drop my knife, or something?

    Played a few rounds today. I was much better with the 50 rounds in the LMG than with the 10 for pistol. I used those 10 to soften up prey, I mean skulks, before shooting them with my remaining 20 shots of LMG one time. Worked like a charm, but it was dumb luck.
