Best Game, Ever

<div class="IPBDescription">single player only!</div> this is fairly simple what is the best video game ever as a single player game
obviously if you are actually hanging out on this forum well, you have to like n

i my self cannot pick just one game so ill say 3
hl -> teh ai on hard is amazing, esp teh marines, and its amazing feel
system shock 2 -> atmosphere and well all of it!

mechanized assault and exploration(MAX)-> the best stragaey game ever
because of teh incredible upgrade system and teh dazling array of units
ok i give up MAX is not able to be beaten

wasn't MAX really unbalanced and buggy? Maybe that was only the German version...

Personally I'd have to say Escape Velocity is one of the best (new) games ever. And by New I mean within the last 10 years.

Which is odd for me to say this, as DOOM has been my #1 for 9 years now... heh.

And Now lucasArts has declared that they are making an OFFICAL PC SEQUAL to it!! There is an XBOX version coming out, but by another company (of former LA ppl)

The amount of hours i've racked up in Single + Multi-player
modes is ridiculously high. And I enjoyed every second of it.
2 years on, and I still play it when my PC is defragging
or when i get bored.

I followed Perfect Dark since it was announced like 2 years before the release. I think I even tried to go to E3 to get a chance to play. I found it to be a bit of a let down. Haven't been able to put a finger on what, but its probably mostly the weapons. All futuristic and crap, not nearly as fun as Goldeneye.

urgh MAX is horrible..but I dislike turn based games...so i'm kinda biased.

When it comes to my favourite SP game...i'm pretty stumped.
Halflifes SP episode had a decent storyline and some good enemeys but once you've played it thats it really.
Deus Ex is really damn good as is Morrowind for the sheer replayability.
And GTA3 is just insanely fun...

BLECH @ perfect dark (so can't stand that game)

I refuse to play any console FPS, exept prime wich actualy got it right some how (I really don't know)

best one, ummm..... ChronoTrigger? I don't know (I don't have a Fav game, I tend to play like 5-6 at one time, and get bored very quickly, once a game stops changing It is no longer fun for me, thus chrono trigger with its great plot and ever changing chars is the closest I can think of)

I'd still say Half-Life.

The first time I heard "Go Recon!" I knew the marines would be something different. What astounded me even more is how intelligent they were. They gave each other covering fire. Communicated in sentences that weren't the same thing over and over and what astounded me even more was if I was to hide around a corner the grunts wouldn't run around it allowing me to shoot them they would throw grenades and wait for me.

(Yes I was killed by a grenade about the first time I faced them becuase I didn't know they had them!)

And then we have the best bit. The marines against the aliens, that was amazing!

It'd be tricky for me to choose <i>one</i> best single-player game. I'm a <b>huge</b> fan of RPG's (the whole Final Fantasy series, the Baldur's Gate games, etc), so choosing one would be damn near impossible.

Heh, I remember sitting in front of the TV a few years ago, playing FF7 for almost 12 hours straight <i>without</i> a memory card. Once the characters finally died, the game was completely and totally over. <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'>

In no real order:

-Baldurs Gate 2 (Its....So....Big, and makes NWN look pansy)
-Fallout 2 (My first RPG I think, wheres mah Fallout 3?!)
-Half-Life (Heh, mods, yay!)
-Deus Ex (It did everything right, here I come DX2!)
-GTA3 (I hated the console style missions, but I loved the freedom it gave you)
-Quake 2 (How could any of you forget this!!!! CTF 4 EVR!!)

as single player... hmm...

i loved perfect dark.

metroid prime was great but ran out of fuel quickly.

unreal 2 was done in five hours of playtime on normal and had <i>promise</i> for a good story but came short.

Starcraft/Brood War had an EXCELLENT story in sp.

So did Homeworld/Cataclysm and Half-Life.

i hate picking favorites, as you can see from the above list <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'>

Morrowind - The length of play is awesome, it's almost impossible to do everything one play through which takes forever anyway.

Diablo, Warcraft, Starcraft series - Blizzard has some fun games and in retrospect are similar so I added all three. Kinda same with CnC series, I just wish the games wouldn't get shorter and shorter to beat.

Monkey Island - It's fun.
