Microphone Volume

Too low!
Howdy, I'm trying to use my mic on NS, but the volume is too low for others. I've turned it up to maximum in-game, and by using the voice tweak tool in the Half Life folder. I only need it to go a little louder, as at the moment, I have to shout a tad to sound normal. Turning up the wave slider in my Windows audio properties helps, but I presume that other players won't hear the difference. Windows (ME) is no help either, the voice configuration utilities are barely able to hear me (it only just registers my voice when I yell, yet the HL voice tweak utility can hear me fine - just a little on the quiet side). The problem isn't with the physical positioning of the mic, either. Help?

try testing the mic in a game, by moving it around and talking normally into it, and asking others what sounds good, or bad. There is a command you can type in the console, where you can hear yourself speaking in game. But i cannot remember what it is.

There's no point in doing that, as there is a specific problem - it's too quiet. I have to shout to sound normal, so asking others seems pointless. And it's "voice_loopback 1", I believe.

Check that 20dB boost is enabled, thats the only thing I can think of...

My mic has a bizarre (and similar) bug where it will go really really quiet for no reason. I still have no idea what causes this, although it might be something to do with the jack and the port, as replugging it fixes it sometimes.
