Hello Gothic 2!
I picked Gothic 2, a 3D - third person RPG by Piranha Bytes, up recently, and have to say that I'm pretty positively suprised.
It's not as horribly difficult as its precessor, its story isn't too cheesy, the NPCs are far more vivid than Morrowinds 'walk three steps - turn - walk two steps in the opposite direction' bots, and as for the graphics...

The player hasn't got as much freedom as in big M, but as this is traded in with a lot more involvement into the actual story, I'm content.

Gothic 2 hasn't hit shelves in England and the US, but if you're into RPGs and have a good PC (it works quite well on my AMD XP 2000+), you'd better keep your eyes open for it.

    how's the stability?

morrowind's incessant crashes and rampant bugs and fps problems were its downfalls, IMO.

It's pretty stable - crashed once in twelve hours of gaming.
Some minor bugs that can usually be remedied by loading the last savegame.

Gasp! I hate games like this, you know why? Because my system doesn't HANDLE THEM! What's the mininum requirements? My PC has the "Recommended" Requirements, for Morrowind, and I can't run it smoothly.

lol a friend of mine brought gothic with him to college. We had fun translating some of the equipment into english (what the hell is that?! uh, I think it's some kind of belt...) As for Gothic 2, wow.

I hate playing RPGs without a party of some sort. All I want is pretty much Baldurs Gate with a kickass 3d engine!

*sigh* Back to Baldurs Gate 2 (best...rpg....ever)

TenSix, you should try Wizardry 8. You can get the demo here: http://www.wizardry8.com/

Well, there is an English version of Gothic 1 (the translation of Gothic 2 should be done by now, too), which is rather good as far as I know (it's gotta be better than the German dub).

As for system requirements, it says it works on a P3 700. Personally, I'd like to call that a myth. Everything from 1 Ghz and GeForce 2 MX should handle it, though - just don't assume you'll be playing with full detail.

I think im gonna hunt down gothic 1 and play it again..

It may seem like a really silly reason, but i didnt like morrowind because of the way npcs totally ignored you walking about their homes. I like being a sneaky theif in rpgs but if they dont care if i just waltz into their house, march upstairs and rip them off, its no real challange. In gothic however, npc will be WTH! get out of my house n00b!! Most of them anyway.. Is it still like that in nr 2?

Are you "joiman" by any chance, Zero?

I see JoWood is publishing. Sends shivers down my spine, but perhaps they have for a change gotten their mitts on something worthwhile.

That honour clearly befalls ultima vii: Black Gate!

Though I admit BG2 was definitely "awesome". I have it still installed here and not completed it yet. Ahem.

    "Joiman"?

JoWood won't haunt us much longer - they went bankrupt over the Anno 1503 deal

It has even been extended. The city watch of Khorinis, the main city of the game, sends additionally patrools through the better parts of the town. Sneaking skills are pretty much mandatory to break into richer houses. Now if I only could find that thieves guild...

Nem, could you point to a manual, FAQ etc (preferably in english?)

I really am interested in this

I WOULD play morocrack, however on my old install of win2K it would crash (now dumping physical memory) when ever I walked outside the ship you start in.

I recently reinstaled win2K as well as a geForce4, so I GOT OUT OF THE SHIP!!!. Only to have it crash whenever I try and exit the first building

    BLECH!!!!!!!!

oh well, looks sweet, /me is interested (off to google) but if you got any good info pls share

Joiman, onomatopoetic word for "german". I wondered if you are from Germany since you play the game already, or maybe from one of europe's german speaking nations/minorities.

So, JoWood bankrupt? How come, how did they manage to screw up that much?
