When I Use A Microphone

who's listening?
As the topic says, when I use the voice feature (microphone) in halflife (cs/ns), who hears what I say? As a marine when I scream "I'm all out of ammo, and there's a fade around the corner!" will the fade player hear? Will all players hear? Will only marines hear? How does it work?!

Thanks.

I don't know how it works but only your teammates can hear, not your enemies.

When you are playing the game only your teammates will be able to hear or else it would kind of be pointless but when you are in the Ready Room all players will be able to hear you (you probably knew that tho)

Plus you can still be heard when dead. If a fade takes you down, let your teammates know where he's at!

Yes, there are server variables that allow the voice comm to go over teams, so the Aliens can hear the Marines, and the Marines can hear the Aliens.

For most games, sv_alltalk is the deciding factor for this, but it is usually set to "0" so that voice comm stays intra-team.

Also, if you're the commander your voicecom will still work and reach all your marines, even though you don't get the little icon at the bottom right of your screen.

Well I don't. The yellow speaker icon. I don't get it when I'm in the CC and I use voicecom.

    hmm
If you bind your voicecomm to your mouse, when you get into the comm chair your voicecomm will no longer work. So anyone who ever plans on commanding, make sure your voicecomm is bound to a key instead.

Dunno if that's your prob or not SoulSkorpion.

LOL, all that wasted screaming down the mic when playing commander.

Probably best to have two keys bound to mic, one to use as commander and one to use as a normal player.

Yah, I found that one out after a while of screaming at armory humpers. Little did i know that they couldnt hear me... I mean the speaker icon is right in the middle of the build buttons.

    I now have mouse3 and g set to +voicerecord.

Heh.. another thing.. only use the mic for telling advanced things, witch takes hours to write.
If you need ammo, health, need an order etc use the Command menu. The commander can jump to events just happened with his +jump button. But the mic speech is not counted as an event yet.
So if you scream "I NEED AMMO!!!111ONEONE" in the mic, you wont accomplice anything but freak out your commander. (Witch have to scroll the whole minimap to find your sorry @$$)

Summed in 3 words: Use the commandmenu.

Did you turn on the +20 dB boost in the volume controls and check to see that the recording volume is all the way up? Maybe that would make you easier to hear.
