<div class="IPBDescription">for search, edit, etc errors</div> I'll keep this to the point:
If you constantly get errors of "page cannot be found" when trying to search the froums or edit posts, or other things on the NS forums, I found a dirty and kinda complicated fix until I can figure out what is actually wrong with the code.

Never having any 404's, javascript errors, or page cannot be displayed's, I always had to rely on forum members to point out forum bugs to me. And I finally found out why I never had errors, running proxomitron(read below) seems to smooth all the code bugs out, and makes the forums run like a dream. I got a few folks in IRC to use it, and it fixed the forums for each and every user. Even if you don't need it for the ad blocking, it can be run in the background, without any blocking on, but will ensure the forums work for you. Yes, the NS Forums Client Side patch 0.1.

So, <a href='http://www.proxomitron.org' target='_blank'>proxomitron</a> is actually a very advanced (and good) ad/popup blocker, that runs on your machine. It takes a little know how to setup, but any person who can read, could do it. The side effect, is that it makes the search function work without a hitch, edit post shows up fine and all that fun stuff. If are in a dire need for it, go, <a href='http://www.proxomitron.org' target='_blank'>download</a>!

I got it after the umpteenth non-popup ad animation floated over the website I was reading (yes, Proxomitron blocks most of those too). After a certain point the amount of ads you're subjected to just gets ridiculous.

I highly reccomend this program. I have had it installed for a a few weeks and BAM, my surfing has been error-free. Best of all, it has no adds, no spyware, no annoying crap and it's easy to uninstall. Sure you have to wait .02 more seconds for a page to load, but the crap it STOPS from loding more than makes up for that. No more pop-ups. It dosen't just block them by comparing the url to a list, it actually stops the code it's self from having ANYTHING popup. It prevents add banners from loading and replaces them with links, can prevent hostile javascript from changing your settings, can alter cookies. It may sound like a hacker's tool, but it really is convenient and well-done.

Don't take my word for it, try it yourself!

Can anyone give me a URL with lots of popups so I can test this out? Proxymotron's still saying it has 0 active connections even though I've set up everything correctly.

Nevermind, I just realized that the active connections thing only counts up when you are sending or recieving data. Looks like between this and PopupStopper, I'll never see another popup again!

Easy (and mildly amusing) site to test a popup blocker: www.kazaalite.com.

supernorn2000, usually using an off site proxy causes all sorts of problems, yes. One of those routes all your internet traffic through it, games and all. This is just a locak proxy, which only filters web surfing, so it doesn't affect anything else.

I've found that when I get the white screen of death when trying to search, I logout of the forum, clear my www.natural-selection.org cookie and then restart my browser. Once I log back in the function works fine. You may want to try it and see if it helps.

    Regards,

    Savant

After doing a search, I just close the browser, open, return to forums for my next search... Thats all.
