A New Take On Mines

<div class="IPBDescription">This strat made ppl go WTH?</div> Alright so we (marines) were about mid-way through the game. We had level 2 weapons upgrades and controlled only one hive. Decided to try a new tactic... i called all my marines home and fitted everyone up with a pack of mines... i had everyone run over to the nearest alien controlled hive and of course my team wiped up any aliens that were sitting there. Ive noticed that mid-game aliens tend to not defend their main hive as they belive it is defended because of the constantly respawning skulks... Well, imagine the aliens surprise when ALL my marines took out their mines and literally sprayed mines all over the alien base... needless to say we are talking about 30 or so mines here... i put up a armory and slaped down a few mine packs.

During this time of course all of the skulks were desperatly trying to take back their hive but they couldent get near close enough to the rines to actually bite them without blowing themselfs up (had about 12 skulks kill themselfs trying to get to the marines). So anyways.. after a godly amount of mines are on the floor i just had everyone deck the hive with LMGs... All in all the entire assult probaly only costed about 60ish res and i ended up with a hive litterd with mines + a armory ^-^. This has to be one of the best games of NS i have played in awile <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Just be careful not to crash the server. Your also lucky, that a fade didn't come along.

    ... lucky they didn't have enough clue to det the mines using gorge spit. Of course, if it was sewer hive or some other really constrained hive, it wouldn't be easy to get close enough.

    It's like one of those surprise strategies that started at the dawn of RTS. If you take too long, the aliens are usually smart enuf to go gorge at the price of 13 res a piece and detonate the mines. But with only 1 to 2 gorges, any non-clan team wouldn't stand a chance, once there's a mine field. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    the mine rush is king early game, rush rush rush 1 armour + many mines + no carapace = victory.

Anyways yea this is mostly a pub only tac.. i mean it only really took 30 secounds or so to get the hive all set up... and most pub gorges dont know how to det. land mines with their spit so it works fine most of the time.

    I've seen marines do that at PowerSilo before. They had mines everywhere, so I ran up the wall and became a fade. I shot 1 acid rocket down right as the majority of marines were there, the mines blew up, and i got about 6 kills from that one shot lol.

    Fire a foot or two ABOVE the mine. That's where the trigger is. Hitting the landmine itself does nothing.

    ... Mine rush = Stupid. Any good skulk knows how to avoid mines. Additionally, I've seen a lot of marines who've killed a skulk and at the same time the skulk has killed them with the mine. Also, as Ambassador said, one Fade can anhillate all that work in one shot, along with a bunch of marines. I've gotten a succession of about seven mine kills in a row from detonating them as marines got near them.

    Yea that is why this is a strat for BEFOR the aliens can get their 2nd hive and fades.. Btw you would be surprised at how impossibly difficult it is to attack marines as a skulk with 30 + mines ALL OVER THE FLOOR <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Ive tried this sort of thing but it tends to not go over well in pubs. Whenever I hand the mines out the rines simply ignore everything which I said beforehand about attacking the hive and putting mines around it, and they put mines all around the base.

    A gorge can't stop an attack like this simply because that's why you have <i>marines</i> to stop them. I sometimes start giving out mines as a secondary weapon (like a welder to an HA), when I have JP/Shotgunners coming up.

    LOL. Yes that even happens in clan play. Last night: thoroughly agreeing upon plan in IRC before hand. Rush empty hives with mines. Game starts. Armory goes up, mines drop and one starts putting mines about the base instead of rushing his designated hive. Force of habit I am sure <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

    And also I can relate to those critical aliens have 1.5 hive times. I often brainstorm mine strats but I'm rarely the comm (heh) and timing, of course, is everything, with fades on the way.

    this is a tactic i use for beginning of game (quick win) ip/armory/mines it has a good chance of victory with competant marines and yes this is an ollld strat but still kool and unknown to most.

    I thought only babblers / fade acid rocket / bile bomb detonated mines.

    For the 1000th time, y s gorge spit detonates trip and proximity mines alike. For proxy mines aim a bit abve the actual mine.
