Roob's *No Time For Muppets* NS 1.04 (163.1.180.217:27016) server
run by Roobbubba

I played there yesterday, and he seemed to be a pretty cool guy, so I told him I would play there more often with my non-noob friends...

I went back in the evening, a new round just started, i went to stand in the "marine-entrance" and some guy named DMS walked up to the same entrance and said
"move, DMS is going marines" as we all know, every lame **** said this, so i read the message, and as soon as i had read it, he kicked me off the server. Apparantly that guy was an admin 2. I went back in, to ask him why he kicked me => because i didn't listen! The guy gave me barely two seconds to move, and everyone says "**** off and go aliens" in NS. I told him that he didn't even give me enough time, and that it wasn't a very polite thing to do, and then he changed my name into "Llama"... i couldnt say anything in the game anymore, and then Roobbubba changed it into "I'mnotaLLama"... so I shut down the game, because i was pretty annoyed by this... BECAUSE I DIDN'T CALL HIM NAMES, SWEAT OR DID ANYTHING ELSE THAN NOT MOVING WITHIN TWO SECONDS AND NOT KNOWING HE WAS AN ADMIN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So I l8er on, I wanted to get back into HL to change my name back, and my game would run for two seconds and then it would crash... EVERY TIME... I didn't make any systemchanges WHATSOEVER!!!
So I had to re-install my game all over again, including all mods.

I go back tonight and tell them "changing someone's name is one thing, but making them re-install their whole game isn't funny." And he said he didn't do anything, I asked him what he had done with my HL-game, and off course he was innocent, i asked him again, no swearing or rude language WHATSOEVER,
and he does it again.... So guess what.... MY GAME IS DEAD AGAIN <!--emo&:angry:--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/mad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='mad.gif'><!--endemo-->

I mean, I sure as hell won't go back there anymore, but what I would like to know, if something can be done against them, or how i can contact them to ask them once more what the hell they think they are doing...

    well it looks like Roobbubba was sticking up for you when he changed your name to "i'mnotallama" so contact him and tell him you would like to take action against whoever kicked you and altered your HL settings. There are plenty of good servers out there with respectable admins, so dont let it discouarge you...some people are just plain arrogant.

    Yeah, it sounds like he has given admin status to people that "seemed" like they were mature enough to handle it. (Hey lyndak, does that sound familiar?) As above, report the admin via e-mail. And tbh, I would not play that server again if I was you.

    I haven't ever played on that server and after what you have told i never will.

    I have played few really cool finish servers with nice admins.
    After one game i asked that can we please change the map, and admin asked to me about what map i would like to play <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
    I said ns_bast and few seconds later map changed. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Another example:
    Server size was 16 players and in every game good players went neither to aliens or marines and that side won every single time. So it was newbie's vs. skilled players. When the round ended the admin said that everybody goes in randon team this time.... about 4 guys did and all the others went to aliens or marines. Admin restarted the game, so we were back in the ready room. This time he said: "Those who doesn't go in random team will be kicked".     Welcome to online gaming. Some people are just WAY too self absorbed for their, or anyone's own good. I usually find one or two decent servers where most people are just there to have fun and enjoy the game, and talk to other people. I really despise servers where you start to have a conversation with someone, even in just regular text chat, and the admin says "SUYF, you aren't helping me win" so they gag you, both text and mic, which then results in having to reinstall NS because when they voice mute you, it deletes the whole voice communication file. Yay.

    Anywho, just find a few servers where you can hang out and have fun at. There's always going to be bungholes who think they are a demi-god, but if you play your cards right, you'll find good demi-gods <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

    I don't know if this is the same server, but the one I joined was called Roob's Bubtastic NS 1.04. I joined aliens and that DMS guy was part of marines. Well the game had already started, but hadn't been going for too long, so I went skulk to go harass the marines. Nobody in our team could get near the marines. They seemed to know where we were (I assumed motion tracking), and the were killing us very easily with lvl 3 cara. Some of my team started grumbling about a particular marine who seemed invicible, and he did actually kill almost everyone that went near him. Anyway I asked the team how long the game had been going, and they said "20-25 minutes". I thought that was a bit quick for lvl 3 weapons and motion, but it got even weirder when I checked the res nodes and found barely any of them were marine (including one right outside the main). Considering we were on the defensive, and how quick we were dying I thought it unlikely that we had attacked and destroyed the res points. I asked the team, and they said no, they hadn't destroyed any (though they had tried). Enough was enough, so I protested that the marines had advanced a little quick, and one of the marines said that if an aliens pressed f4, they would be banned! At this point we were taking a serious beating from the marines, so I pointed out again that the marines had advanced VERY quickly, then I got kicked!! <!--emo&:angry:--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/mad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='mad.gif'><!--endemo-->

    This sounds like the same people, I'm certainly not going near that server again.

    From what I know, Roo isn't a bad guy. Apperently, the other admin is.

    As for your HL getting screwed - this may not be the admin's fault. I'm an admin myself (not the most experienced, I'll grant you), and I have NO idea how to do what he did to you. I might figure out a way after a couple hours of tinkering, but I would rather just use built-in disciplinary methods, such as bury, slap, kick, ban, llama, gag, etc. I therefore seriously doubt that Roo's server has some plugin or script that allows them to pwn your HL.

    I think he may have used a plugin such as admin_mute (kills client-side VC by altering client settings instead of having all the other clients mute that player; downside is that many players can't figure out how to turn their VC back on, so I don't use it anymore), and your machine may have barfed. Please, post you machine specs and operating system, as that may be the problem.

    Also, try to contact Roo directly. The NS forums are not the "Roo's Server Forums" or the "**** About Servers Forums." Chances are he won't notice your post for some time, longer than if you had just taken the simple measure of PMing him instead of conducting a crusade.

    Lastly, don't make multiple topics about the same thing in different boards. That's just annoying.



    *Edit - DMS didn't do anything wrong. Read the other thread for the reasons. Sorry for not giving you guys more benefit of the doubt, Roo.

    I play there all the time and often with DMS, I've never had the slightlest problem with him or any of the other admins. I even thought he was over patient with some n00b's. In fact He seems to very rarely use his admin powers further than admin say... but if you all want to boycott Roob's server then great, maybe I can get on it a little more often <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Many of the regular players there are REALLY good, and when the marines work as a team the can grab 2-3 resource points and tech up really quickly.

    As for killing your install! No, I am pretty sure it wasn't DMS's fault.

    I have posted on the other topic you repeated this on.

    See that post please, it is locked you will have to go down the forums.

    In short:
    1) DMS retryed you to get on the marine team where I and a couple other close personal friends were playing. I reserve the right to play on what team I like, the same goes for my admins. We do all share the common aim - to have good games.

    2) I llama'd you (I posted the logs on the other thread I am currently at work however) and unllama'd you 1 minute and 9 seconds later. I have PMd this guy, who I believe is a decent player, sadly just mistaken in thinking ANYONE on my server has done anything improper because of an apprent bug in the admin_llama command, which I did NOT know about prior to this.

    3) F4 is lame and if you F4 out of the game when it's clear which way it will go at the end, I ban you. This is ALWAYS warned before you do it, my regulars appreciate it, and if you STILL do it having been warned about it, don't be surprised if you're outta there. I reiterate, it's my server I will run it how I like. The fact that I have a large regular player base who all enjoy good games with good connections speaks for itself.

    4) DMS IS NOTHING BUT HELPFUL AND KIND. Don't take ANYONE's opinion here, go find out for yourself.
    If there is one thing that annoys me more than cretins, it's people who ASSUME opinions about people without having met them.     5) If you have a problem with my server, **** off and play elsewhere. Chances are you're not a good player and don't enjoy teamplay, as that's what my server is all about.
    I keep my server VERY regularly adminned, often under alias to make sure that it isn't being abused. I take adminning very seriously and do NOT appreciate slanderous comments like those that have appeared here that are COMPLETELY without basis.

    6) EVERYONE PLEASE KNOW THAT SV_CONTACT IS A CVAR FOR YOU TO CONTACT A SERVER ADMIN.
    I can't stress this enough. Look at the CVars in "the all seeing eye" or "gamespy arcade" or "gamespy" or whatever program you use. Down the list you will see "sv_contact". Contact me before the forums about any issue.

    Luckily, most people here have the sense not to listen to something like this without checking out themselves or otherwise not commenting. Paq, I'm surprised at you and disappointed. Try my server out and see if you don't change your unfounded opinion.

    If anyone else has anything to say, please PM me. My contact details are easy to find, you clearly didn't look hard enough.

    FInally - if anyone comes to my server and constantly rambos and does not use any teamwork whatsoever (especially on marines), don't be surprised if you are kicked or banned. Teamwork is essential to the game. If you don't work in a team, you aren't playing the game on my server. Simple rule, most people don't have a problem with it. If you have, bu66er off and "play" somewhere else.
