Q - Voicecom (Never use it tho, people in the house think I'm going mad - "THE HIVE, THE HIVE!!!" "Grenade launcher and jetpack, please.")
E - Use
R - Reload
12345 - Weapons
F - Kill-me-now beacon/Flashlight
Z - Radio - Need orders
X - Radio - Roger that
C - Radio - Follow me / Chuckle

Hey, it works well enough.
Oh, and arrow keys? No idea how you can use those.

I hate WASD or ESDF or whatever other wierd keyboard controls u can dream up. mostley because with my control setup every button i need it within pinky or thumb distance. meaning i can run and do stuff at the same time. not so with WASD. the other thing is the wasd keys are not lined up straight and i always hit the edge of the buttons or the wrong buttons completely with irrattes the heck out of me! ARROW KEYS FOH-EVA!

also my buddy who is an AWSOME cs player uses the arrow keys as well. we usually laff at WASD'ers lol!
but whatever yer used to i guess...

WSAD movement. Q is fast switch.
V is voice. Shift is duck. Control is walk. I use the numbers up top for my weapons mostly. Pretty close to stock. I used to play Unreal Tourney with the num pad (my roommates computer he had one of those ergonomic boards.)

The biggest change though? See that retarded windows key right there causing trouble? (swear it's the most sensitive key on the board)

GONE. Piece of ducttape over the hole so crap doesn't spill down there. Honestly, who needs TWO keys to pop up the start menu? <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'> Heck, why it's down there and not bound to one of the f-buttons or something those stupid n00b buttons at the top of keyboard is way beyond me. Yes, that stupid windows key has caused alot of nosound games. <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/mad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='mad.gif'>

This is my config, which i have been using for a couple of years, with only a few modifications for ns. Anyone who has played against me should know the effectiveness of this scheme <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'>

up arrow- forward
down arrow- back
right arrow- right strafe
left arrow- left strafe
enter- use
ctrl- jump
shift- duck
delete- walk
end- reload
pinky mouse- voice
mouse 1- fire
mouse 2- menu
scroll up/down- weapons
scroll press- jump (makes jp's easier to use)

all other keys are not needed immediately

numberpad=alien upgrades(carapace celerity cloak etc...)

anyone use keyboard to <i>look</i> left and right?
dont think i could stand that but somehow my friend does it...wierd..

I use wasd, but esdf is the "best" layout in my opinion. It has the most keys in easy reach without having your hand on the right half of hte keyboard (and thus making it hard to type normally, as you have to slide your hand all the way over.) I TRIED to learn esdf when I got Tribes 2, because it's the default for that game, but I never got the hang of it, and kept putting my hand on wasd and throwing grenades and stuff instead of moving <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'>

My mouse setup is the only thing that differs at all:
Mouse1 & Mouse2 - Normal
Mouse5 - slot2
Mouse4 - slot1
Mouse3 - slot3
mwheelup & mwheeldn - Haven't set it up set, any suggestions?

This config work extremly well with hud_fastswitch set to 1, as I can switch weapons and use different weapons together much more easily than if I used the keyboard.

Delete - drop (for weapon, this is much faster than the menu)

Only game where i use WASD is Mortal Kombat 4.
In HL(NS) i use this:
Arrows - moving forward, backward and strafe
Ctrl - crouch
Kp 0 - use
Kp numbers - weapons changing (but dont use these much)
Kp 7 - microphone talk
Mousewheel forward/backward - next/prev weapon
Mousewheel press - flashlight
RMB - menu (sayings, building etc.)
LMB - FIRE!
Left Upper MB - jump
Left lower MB - reload

Whatever i do i have one hand at mouse that controls weaponry and second on keyboard that controls moving and the rest.

4 Buttoned mouse w/ wheel(MB3).
LMB1 - Fire
RMB2 - Menu
SMBEL4 - Reload (alternate)
SMBER5 - Last Weapon
Wheel up - Next weapon
Wheel down - Previous Weapon

SMB is short for (S)pecial (M)ouse (B)utton. ER and (EL are (E)xtreme ®ight and (L)eft, respectivly.

And then i have some other non-descript keys bound to phrases like "Damn, im good." and "Above you." <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'>

most messed config ever, since it hinges mostly on the mouse (un-relyable reloading <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'> ) and the Arrow keys which arn't known for speed.

Also nearly half my keyboard goes off the desk when i play and to type i have to lean to the left to put in the message; it doesn't help that the support on the right of the keyboard is broken, too. <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wow.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wow.gif'>

Hey localhost2600 -- I live by that Belkin Nostromo Speedpad. I acutally wore out the membranes on the old one and bought a new one ASAP. O_o I ended up having my keyboard configs across several HL mods (NS, TFC, CS, DoD) similar, then set up a "HL Universal" configuration so I don't have to worry about switching.

This SpeedPad really helps to ease strain in your wrist and also helps ease pressure at the base of your hand. Simply comfy.

I'd have to say with the movement keys as the arrows u eliminate that sucker of a windows key.

Any ideas on disabling windows key?? other than ripping it out or changing my key configuration.

WASD means you dont have to bend ur wrist inwards or anything like that.

You can just keep your arms straight, and thats the way aha aha I like it <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'>

for a while i used two hands on the key board, ctrl and num 0 for fire/alt fire left right arrow for turning wasd for forward and back and strafe movement. and all voice comms on num keys.

I want to get a five button mouse so then i can have many binds on the mouse.

some peoples thinking how i can play with arrows .. i use all keyboard buttons with left hand and mouse is my shooting stuff for right hand..

up = arrow up
down = arrow down
left = arrow left
right = arrow right

use = e
reload = r
dock = right ctrl.
jump = sift

i playing with those buttons DoD/Natural-Selection but when playing CS i use " awsd " buttons.
