Anyway, I run a couple servers (two cs servers and an ns server) off a couple different lines.
http://www.whutdufuk.com is the url for the website.
My NS server is on a t-1 line, running on an xp 1600 w/1gb ddr, 40gb 7200rpm hdd.
18 max players.
However, no one plays... ever. I am open to suggestions, and am looking for a few regulars to get things rolling.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Feel free to click the penguin picture in my sig to go to my website for the servers.
Check it out, let me know what's wrong with my server so that I can fix it!

Oh well, forget the sig.
I've tried to get my CS players to play NS..... but they go where people are.... the CS servers
Also, affiliating yourself with an established server group (ie. Homelan) helps out a bunch too, but then you usually gotta play by their rules, so it's a win/lose situation sometimes. I prefer to set my own rules so my server stands alone. If you ever feel bad just take a look at the other servers. There are MANY MANY unpopulated servers on NS right now. After 1.1 we might get an influx of n00bs, thereby creating a new cast of people who need "regular" servers. Right now the community is pretty much established, everyone's got their own little hang out right now. When 1.1 comes out we'll see a nice refresh and some new "hang-outs" emerge.
In the meantime take this opportunity to play around with the server itself. I'm learning on it right now cause no one's on when I'm at work with the server, so I can restart it all I want. Also test out the various NS mods that are out there and see which one's people enjoy. I'm running mostly non game-play changing ones right now, Adminmod, Unstuck, and NSStatusbar. I'm getting requests to try lerklift, but I'm not so sure as of now wheter to add it on or not. Ah well, at least I have a server to run, I've been just a player for sooooooo long. I had absolutely no idea how much power Adminmod gave the highest level admins. admin_execclient!! Had no idea that was even possible!
ahhh yes, I got so bored at one point that I even made a script so that I could take (laggy) remote control of any player that was the target of my chasecam. It was always good for a laugh when an afk came back into a game of cs to find he was already in the heart of enemy territory in the middle of jumping over a crate or something.
The best advice is play on it a lot. Keep it regularly adminned and you will build up a decent bunch fairly quickly. It has taken about 3 months to build up the capacity client base I now have (that includes getting all lovey dovey with many of the regulars etc), but it's rare for the server to be half full. When someone joins, they all come flocking

PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh, and when I say 'decent players' I don't mean good at the game, I mean not whining, spamming, flaming CS players....

I'm almost always at one of the NSAF servers for this reason. I'm gonna go check out the CE server and Roo's server today if I get the chance, as I've heard only praise. I still haven't checked out voogru's server army, although I will eventually.
I've had an offer to join modns.org... which is all good and fun, except I have to change my server name and adhear to their rules. I think I'll try it out, since I've got nothing to lose... but if I dislike it, I'll go back to being the lone server that it was.
