no the textures dont have to be func_walls, but in some cases they will be due to face splitting, etc
also, take a look in your zhlt/hammer (if u r using hammer) folder and look for lights.rad open it with notepad or something, this is wat controls the light textures give off, i often add / edit this file

Make a lights.rad in your compile tools folder
then put the texture name followed by its RBG code

tex 221 142 254 1000
