Chuckle Sound Original Source

I FOUND IT! :D
Other people may of already known this..but i'll continue with my story.

On saturday night, a friend of mine and i where bored so we popped in Starcraft and did a pc rape. Map was 3 kingdoms and we where both Terran vs protoss (random teams).

Anyways..sometime into the game..my friend said that some neutral creature makes the chuckle noise from NS (it was the creature that looks like a rhino with armor on it lol). So about a minute later..i decide to click on the creature...and as it would be..i hear *he he he he* and that was followed up by me lmao because it was the -exact- sound use in NS.

Shame on the devs of NS, they didn't give credit to Blizzard for ripping the chuckle sound.
lol
Lawsuit time *hehe jk*

A Sidenote: If anybody can find me a SDK for Starcraft..please PM me the link..I'm bored and I want to work on a SC mod..

Pz out

NS used a professional sound effects CD for the sound effects which just happened to be the same one Blizzard used for Starcraft.

Nubbins! Rest assured that "Now we dornce" is 100% original.

Anyone notices if you use build too much as a gorge, the hive says "you need more ressources" in a rather... strained way? Like implying I am stupid or tiring (now however could it think that!) Or is that random?

Zerobyte is correct. NS and Starcraft have drawn from the same publically available sound library, so you may encounter some sounds that you've heard elsewhere. I believe there is at least one sound effect that also appears in the movie "Aliens."

But you should also note, all the Voice work is original and exclusive to NS.

Just on a side topic I also noticed a sound from somewhere else. When you drop the buildings for marines its the same sound as Nightcrawler teleporting off X-men Evolution.

Nah I wanna meet the guy behind the hive voice. I've always imagined some 70 year old who smoked a hundred cigars a day since he was 8

If I remember correctly that 'guy is actually a girl. It's the same person who did the dropship voiceovers in SC.

    Might be wrong of course.

Actually, the person who did the hive/alien voices is the same person who did the Comm station voice i.e. A female. Her name escapes me at the moment but she also did female voices for none other than (da-da-dum!) StarCraft. So there you go.
  • ImmacolataImmacolata Join Date: 2002-11-01 Member: 2140Members, NS1 Playtester, Contributor
I've read somewhere that it is indeed the case. She was hired to do the voices.

Pity NS doesnt have the funny stuff just about all RTS's have where if u click on a unit too many times they spoke to u, Warcraft had some absolute classics aswell as starcraft.
  • F_o_RStormF_o_RStorm Join Date: 2002-08-05 Member: 1076Members
Yup. The same woman did the cc voice and alien hive voice. She also did the dropship for starcraft, and Akara (that's her name, right?) from Diablo 1.

On Dod, one of the sounds on dod_overlord is strait from saving private ryan. (I realize its not NS related but is remotely related to this thread) and they don't even give credits to the movie.

    Ehh....?
According to that page she did the voices for the orcs and taurens in WC3.
Also she did the "voices" for the zerg queen in StarCraft. I can't remember it talking much, just some "eeeeuuccchh" and "scrreeeeaaaaauuuumm"

What are you talking about? Whenever I get a order, I respond, wether it be "Hell no" or "Roger that," it always gets a response.

some other sound effects from starcraft...

The offensive chamber fire sound is the same as the Ultralisk death sound
The sound a gestating same egg makes is the same sound a zerg egg makes

i brought this up a long time ago. Basically there is this "pool" of sounds out there. And people like blizzard or Flayra & Co. pay to use the sounds in their video game.

kann_nix: You need to find better uses for your time than correcting people's spelling on the Internet. I don't know how familiar you are with said Internet, but spelling is not a major concern in most areas.

    Heh.

Have you just ignored the first few posts out there? They specifically state that all games can draw from the same libraries. This applies to movies. Example - Ok ever played RCT? Know the crowd sound? That's the same crowd sound as MI:2!

Units do have funny response; units have an unlimited number of responses to orders. The limit is only people's creativity.

You give a marine twenty different waypoints he's bound to give you some very flavorful suggestions about where you can put your waypoints.

Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex get a few sounds from the same source as NS, too. The phase gate, the doors on Eclipse, and a few other sounds. Probably a few more I didn't pick up on.
