Umbra is great for taking down muiltple marines in an area, if you have adren. If you don't have adren, I wouldn't recommend using it in the heat of battle, because it takes your full energy bar to use, and leaves you with no energy to bite/spike or fly. It's great, however, to use it in a vent, wait a few seconds for your energy to recharge, and spike away.
Ok..I think we've covered spike damage methods enough, so heres some real strategy that im still waiting to see happen (on public servers). I really hate when like 5 people on your team go lerk 'to umbra fades' and either really suck and don't bother to umbra at all or they just follow a fade sticking random clouds on him. If you're assaulting a base its ALOT faster if you would just run in to the nearest building, drop an umbra and have you and the fade chomp on whatever structure it is. When I'm fade facing massive turret spam and/or marines firing at the same time I want to go in with some claw action but my lerk (if i even have one) is scared to get into the fight...REALLY, aliens would be alot more effective if lerks and fades could work together better/more. I forget who it was but I had a really smart lerk on my team once on nancy. I (fade) went with the lerk to noname which was HEAVILY guarded, with a couple assorted marines and a bunch of turrets. We took out the entire base, I hid behind the tfac and he came in to umbra me then continue biting the tfac, since we were behind the tfac the marines had to come with us (WITHIN THE UMBRA CLOUD) so I made short work of them. Within less than a minute the tfac was down, marines in there were dead, so of course the rest of our team started flooding in to finish off the rest and thus we had 3 hives (something i notice is harder to get these days because by the time you're occupying the hive location your team is finishing off the marine main base). So lerks, you need to communicate with a fade or 2 and umbra the structure they are attacking..instead of forcing them to acid rocket from a hallway restricted by the boundaries of your poorly placed umbra cloud.
do you remember the name of this lerk by any chance coz i remember doing EXACTLY the same thing very recently.
my on-line name is Mr-Swinger unfortunatly i cant remember the fades name but we played very well together infact i never got hit once and he had regen so we were the perfect team hehe
Unfortunately not man..sorry, I don't think it was you though, however I am VERY glad to hear that you're employing this strategy, now if we can just get everyone else to I don't see how many marines could withstand this strategy (of course there is always a way, but it'd take them a good long while to think about it ). By the way, yes I understand people can die pretty quick as lerk in the middle of a big base, but to be honest, in the off chance that you do die the fade you were dropping umbra on will be no worse off than if you just hung back and put up useless clouds of it.

No offence to you personally hero, but if all you do is umbra and vent spike then LERK aint the class you should be playing. Samething to you snowman. If you are going to waste your 33 resources, the least you can do is try to make a difference in the game. Not just mess around your hive, if you don't feel you can take down a pack of marines with a lerk at 1 hive, then you are probably better off not going lerk and saving yoru resources and the gorges and waiting for second hive when you can have adren and umbra.
Silence and celerity are in truth not very helpful to lerks. Especially CELERITY, this has almost no use whatsoever for the lerk seeming as to how it can go as fast as it needs to anywya. Celerity only works on the ground, and since a lerk should be in the air at nearly all times anyway, its useless. As for silence, it can be slightly helpful in the fact that it makes you flap silently, therfore allowing you to sneak up on marines. However, I think you will find adrenaline infinitely more useful for lerk.
Yea, I hate flying into a combat zone, popping some umbra, and watching the fades peep around corners shootings acid. As if they had 60 life. Matter fact, thats all the lerk has and hes going in. Thats why I like coordinating with my friend. No mic's, no typing. We just have it all set. Ill flap fast and hard past him into the combat, hell blink, and well meet in the middle .

Yeah, this one time me(lerk) and one fade seriously raped a marine base and we'd only just got the 2nd hive. The rest of the alien team was "WTH, did they f4?". A fade that isn't afraid to swipe and a lerk that knows how to fight CQB are one of the most lethal combinations in the game. Also giving fades a lift into vents is very useful.
I have another use for spores. If some marines are hiding at the end to the roud and you can't find them: Get scent of fear and spore everywhere. I got accused of h4x using this method (despite anyone following me seeing it took 3 laps of the map for me to actually find the marines).

Funny, I hate being one of the Fades, watching the OTHER Fades do that too. Acid spammers suck. Hard. It's like 'Jesus! They're not THAT SCARY, you bunch of losers!'

so how many of you lerks out there are excited about the expected lerk changes in 1.1 they say there gonna completely re-vamp the physics of it... but i hope they don't make it too easy to play with, i mean i still want lerks to be a challenge, and i difienetly don't want them to be an over used class like fades are.
actually the only hting about the lerk that pisses me off is the spike animation (hitscan/projectile) thing. everything else (flying physics) i dont mind.
sticking to cielings is highly talked about idea in the suggestines and ideas section. Also the orginal NS blue prints said lerks would be more like bats and be bale to cling to cielings... but i like the physics the way they are now how you can face one direction but glide another... its a really nifty move to pull, i hope they dont take that out...

Forget spikes, forget Umbra except to support Fades, just switch to bite & eat some heads.
And spores are just for scorewhores, nothing else.

I just wish he could "Stick" to walls in 1.1
