<div class="IPBDescription">Which one?</div> I was wondering if somebody had an opinion on what map is the best to play on in order to learn the basics of gameplay. Rather than jumping into an online game as soon as I get the game, I usually play in a created LAN for awhile to get familiar with the games.

Nancy must be the second. It is also more or less flat, with not too difficult to remember routes between base and hive. There are more vents and they are important to learn at some point, and good Points of interest such as mess hall, the cargo loading area etc.
If not this one, then ns_nothing is the 3rd offer. Split up in very easy to differentiate parts like Cargo area, viaduct area, powersilo area. More vents though, and a bit harder to navigate but easier to remember the geography of.
Ones to avoid are bast, hera and caged. Bast is very venty and vertical, difficult to learn and hard to navigate. Hera has the hugely confounding processing area and the tubes around ventilation hive and maintenance area. Also many closed doors and weldables. Caged has a super strange center that defies all logic, I still get lost on that map when I venture to the center. Besides the map is difficult for marines due to the evil vent at their base. It's one that I love now, but I remember really hating it when I started playing NS.
Avoid Bast like the plague at first, or you'll be SOooooo lost.
I personally would lower Eclipse on the ratings, simply because it's very 'samey' in a lot of areas, making it hard to work out where you are inbetween major points.

........ What's the fun of playing if you can't get lost once in awhile?!?! I do better when I'm in strange territory. That's how it is with me: go to the objective, keep my wits about me, and pay absolutely no attention to the scenary until I need cover. Over time I learn the landscape by intuition, and a week later (per level) I'm usually a match for most.
Stay away from Caged and Hera. Bast is okay, but might be too much. Nancy is a no if your going to use the jetpack for the first few times ever.
Tanith, Eclipse, and Nothing are good maps for you...
my first map was ns_nothing but **** it's so big and confusing. thank god for phasegates.
The Larch!
The Pine!
The Giant Redwood tree!
The Sequoia!
The Little Whopping Rule Tree!
We'd sing! Sing! Sing!

I wouldn't say Nancy. Mostly because of those impossible vent systems :/
Maps not to take:
-nancy
-bast
-hera (laghole it seems. Oh and proce is too important and can kill a fun game)
Maps to take:
-eclipse
-tanith
-nothing (I guess)
maps to take right after:
-caged (it's pure NS people!
shame about the lag though...
I suggest you try it out once, every map has its advantages and inconvenients.
I already know Bast is the best, but thanks for your input.
