Rate yourself.
I've recently started taking on other roles i.e. comming and gorging, now it seems that taking on these roles has had an effect on my skulking/grunting , to explain I though I'd rate myself for about 2 months ago and today :

2 months ago :

Comming - 2/10
Grunting - 8/10
Gorging - 4/10
Skulking - 9/10

Today :

Comming - 6/10
Grunting - 8/10
Gorging - 9/10
Skulk - 6/10

Anyone else having the same problem here, seems that since I've started gorging my skulking has gone to a pile of ****. Obviously it would be nice to reach a stage where I can class myself as 9/10 for each category but giving one of the categories too much attention definately affects another.

Taking on the role of comm'ing as you can see has'nt affected my grunting skills, guess that being a grunt is like riding a bicycle, once you know the maps like the back of your hand and can point and shoot there's not much more to it.

What u guys think, rate yourselves...

It was the end of December and Christmas break. Dark times my friend dark times.

Now

I couldn't hit a gorge in a barrel, bolted down and covered with red paint.

Alien maybe 7/10

for me it would look like this.

then:
commanding - 2/10
grunting - 7/10
Gorging - 1/10
skulking - 8/10

now:
commanding - 5/10
grunting - 9/10
gorging - 9/10
skulking - 8/10

Since you can see its mostly the strategic skills that have improved since "then". And my fighting skills havent got up all that much mainly because i havent played that much NS latley

I'd say my comming is around 3/10 i can't take the stress

My gorging has gone way up, i've perfected building and expansion and now am concentrating on combat gorging, so i'd say 8.5/10

Skulking 7/10, I've got housemates who completly blitz me

Grunting 6/10, I'm still quite bad at hitting skulks at distance; give me a shotgun though and watch out

9/10 on some days (all catigories).
2/10 on others.
I have no consistancy in my play, I have oned a whole marine team by my self ( 52/14 by the end, all skulks kills)
Other days I can play absolute poo!
I once held horseshoe for an entire game vs level 3 carad skulks with my level 0 lmg. Otherdays I'm lucky not to get eaten as soon as I leave base

I don't know if it's just me, or if there's more skilled players, but I've found that where i used to be able to kill 5 marines in 1 go, I now get wasted

C: 1/10
G: 3/10 (can build and follow orders, can barely shoot)
G: 4/10
S: 3/10

Now:
C: 2/10 (I don't think I ever won a game as a comm, but now my team survises longer )
G: 7/10 (Learned to aim. A bit . Decent as a behind enemy lines siege rambo if the comm wants to)
G: 7/10 (More combat support oriented now, more on the front lines)
S: 6/10

About the skulking, I improved a lot (better ambusher, very good map and vent knowledge) but on average the marines improved more so my effectiveness in the game has gone down a bit. When NS was just released you could just rush down a long corridor, the marines at one end of it would freak out and shoot at the ceiling and random directions, and then you eat four of them without even having carapace. Recently they figured out they're supposed to kill me, which complicates the situation a bit.
Being a good skulk also improves the grunt skills a lot on maps with marine-friendly vents (ns_bast especially).

I'm trying to get to the bottom of why my skulking sucks lately, as a few of you have mentioned the 'rines are getting better, that's one of the reasons, the other one I'm thinking is due to me spending a lot more time as a gorge, being a gorge and handing out the plea's to parasite the 'rines has really made me change the way I skulk.

These days I find myself running around with parasite ready at all times, I'd rather parasite a room with 4 'rines in it than jump right in and chomp away. And what usually ends up happening is I parasite the whole group and die, respawn and make my way back to clean up and someone else ends up finishing what I started

I guess it boils down to 'What makes a good skulk', is it the skulk that racks up the most kills or the one that helped the skulk with the most kills get there?

Gorging has made me start sacrificing myself for the team.

9/10?
that means that 10% of the NS players are better and 90% worse than the judged one, or how is this to be understood?

I think it's a strictly subjective thing. Even if your interpretation is correct, you still couldn't know how to score yourself unless you had a ot of statistics about all players.

euw, thats sounds like one of those server-scanning frag stat sites :)

You'll probably find your score becomes better based on how many hours you've played in a given week, rather than how well you're actually doing.

The best players are the ones who help their teams the most.

I wouldn't rate myself as a good player, but I do try to round people up so we can work together better. I only rarely suceed at that, too.
• tseepratseepra Join Date: 2002-12-11 Member: 10530Members
I hate rating myself but anyways:

Begining of 1.04:
skulk 9.5/10
gorging: I personally don't think you can rate a gorge, unless he goes around killing things like a skulk. Because all a gorge has to do is build, stay alive, and in the later game maby become a battle-gorge and web the marines. So if you have a good build order your a good gorge.

comm: 2/10

I know. It's OK as a rough indicator but i'm not about to claim i'm better then everyone else below me or anything. As I said, I don't use it to compare myself to other people as such, but to keep track of how i'm doing in relationship to myself.

Comm - 5/10
Grunt - 3/10
Gorge - 9/10
Skulk - 7/10

I'd say I'm about average for a comm. If there's a total srewup in the comm chair, that's the only time I'll take it though so i don't have any keys bound which brings my play down. Better than the average n00b but not nearly as good as better players.

I tend to miss...a lot, as a grunt. Even the average player shoots better than me usually. I played too much aliens and got used to non-hitscan weapons. I can still build, however I don't tend to follow orders real well, esp when I can't hear them through the comms mic. Maybe its just me but nobody uses waypoints anymore. If they used waypoints I might put myself up to 4.

I ruxor at gorge. I'm the first to volunteer for it. Why? Because it's so damn easy. If you die, it's almost never your fault. Your first 5 minutes of the game are taken up with core tasks (building res nodes and d towers). After that I have mastered battle gorging I believe and how and where to place key defending structures and webbing. I think however, that there is always somebody better.

I'm a master at taking down structures as a skulk. I tend to solo a lot, leading to a mix between carapace and regen depending on my plan. If the team is organized, I will usually go for carapace when they rush. If they are doing well in their grouping, I will go for regen and bounce happily off on my own and slowly chew down marine structures, including turrets and the like. I've perfected my own technique of circling the turrets so as not to get hit by the one you're chewing on. My eating of marines is alright, but still leaves something to be desired. I'm pretty good at the "you're not watching your back" attack though and surprising marines that are just about to meet a bunch of skulks or OCs from their forward direction. You'd be surprised how many people just don't turn around when they're in a group. It's like they all expect the other one is looking out for their tushies

Heck, I'm perfect, that's it.
I would say about 12/10 in every situation.
Nah, seriously around:
Comming : 2/10 - Know the tactics, but can't do them.
Grunting : 7/10 - I follow orders, try to be nice and can shoot moderately.
Gorging : 8/10 - Know the build order, but is way to much on the frontline and dies all the time.
Skulking : 6/10 - I'm training hard on this one.
