what kylie said is very true, there are a good number of stupid guys out there who tend to **** of female gammers (part of the reason why there are so few) I tend to try and be nicer to em just on general principle so they stick around(hehe, still trying to get my GF hooked on FPS, I already have her hooked on emu stuff and morocrack ;D)
amuzingly one of the best players I have ever played with was female, basicaly took over the alien team via voice comm and got every one following orders (yes we cleaned house ;D)

phenanamol is a very good commander, but she is not the nicest to meet in person so ive been told. let alone, she has the attitude of NOONE else can go comm OR gorge except her. which ruins the game. she is a very very very very very BAD! mic spammer.. i have to mute her 5 seconds into the game. she wont shut up! and its always chit chat, not gaming. just all that flirt junk and all.. shes 20. has a kid, apparently she neglects it a bit, seems to have more time for gaming than for caring.
Coolgirl has the attitude of beleiving she is immortal, anyone who kills her, her reply is "BS HE COULNT HAVE" (he had a hmg, she had no cara etc) I duno how old she is, but she acts like a 14 year old
roxy- only recently been playing with her, apparently from what ive heard, you may as well have her muted on mic as she tends to get carried away with yelling. she is pretty good marine as im told, I have talked to her a fair bit in chat she loves to joke around as much as gaming, but when it comes to gaming she can be pretty serious. I swear shell be running the clan shes in soon hehe... shes 18,,, or 19,, i forget. but I have to admit, shes very pretty..

Thing is, most arty types will have been doing it since they were young, and the chances are they were using pen and pencil rather than a paint program.
It's really tricky to draw with a mouse, even a graphics tablet takes a fair bit of getting used to, so pen / pencil then scan is pretty much the way to go. Besides, it's not just restricted to pens / pencil. You can scan images done with pastels , charcoal, whatever. ( although obviously it's a good idea to stick a layer of fixative over it before it goes anywhere near a scanner..<!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> ). You just can't get the same "feel" drawing directly to a digital image..well, I can't anyway..
Also, say you want a "smudged" look on an image..computer way = playing around with smudge tools, brush sizes, several photoshop filters later, the image will probably be quite uniform and "computery looking", which may not be what you are looking for..
hand drawn technique= rub it a bit with yer thumb or a tissue. Far easier, more controllable, quicker.
Try it for yourself: Dont matter if you are good at art or not, just an experiment to demonstrate what I mean..
1) Get a pen and paper, draw something, car, aeroplane, anime tentacle monster destroying Neo-Tokyo, whatever..
2) Open any paint program, and draw exactly the same thing..
Which one took longer?
Which one looks better?
I'm not knocking digital art btw..I love paint programs, and I especially love the freedom to experiment without utterly destroying a painting that took you two weeks, I think it encourages trying things just for the hell of it, which is always good..

phenanamol is a very good commander, but she is not the nicest to meet in person so ive been told. let alone, she has the attitude of NOONE else can go comm OR gorge except her. which ruins the game. she is a very very very very very BAD! mic spammer.. i have to mute her 5 seconds into the game. she wont shut up! and its always chit chat, not gaming. just all that flirt junk and all.. shes 20. has a kid, apparently she neglects it a bit, seems to have more time for gaming than for caring.
Coolgirl has the attitude of beleiving she is immortal, anyone who kills her, her reply is "BS HE COULNT HAVE" (he had a hmg, she had no cara etc) I duno how old she is, but she acts like a 14 year old
roxy- only recently been playing with her, apparently from what ive heard, you may as well have her muted on mic as she tends to get carried away with yelling. she is pretty good marine as im told, I have talked to her a fair bit in chat she loves to joke around as much as gaming, but when it comes to gaming she can be pretty serious. I swear shell be running the clan shes in soon hehe... shes 18,,, or 19,, i forget. but I have to admit, shes very pretty..
X- I play with her now and then, we usually just meet in chat though. she is pretty nice, though i think she talks in chat more than games. she is cool and pretty good to get along with..dunno her age...

Me- my habit is I only talk on the mic when its ABSOLUTELY necessary. I barely talk, sometimes i just communicate totally through chat, But i rarely use the mic.. another habit, I only play alien, never marine. I also have a bad habit of chuckling after killing someone. or just having a chuckling fit around the place.. Im pretty good gorge.. (pity, thats why everyone wants me to go gorge). im 19 in june.. letsee, I can be abusive, IF you annoy me alot..

another one, I havent seen her for about 4 months, but her name was dark angel i think,, cant remember, but she seemed to think she could be the only girl in the whole server to be a girl, anyone else who said they were a girl she would abuse and say we werent.. damn me and her had a 2 hour argument about this. she just thought she could be queen,, she was only there to get some males,,, well i dont think she got any cus most were on my side ripping her to bits.. DRRRAAAAAGGGIIINNNNGG it back to the topic, thats top work on the poster Sheena Yanai. I'm interested to see that a lot of the NS artists are using pen, then scanning for computer tweakage - do you think this will ever change, or is this kind of art by necessity tactile?
I have one friend who can draw by mouse and he hates doing it (it is nearly imposible, very time consuming and never looks as good)
however if you draw by hand and scan it you can fix all the little things that were bugging you (and experement)

It's pretty much the standard way of doing 2d stuff..( well, arty type stuff anyway, obviously it's easier to draw mathematical shapes in a computer program..). Thing is, most arty types will have been doing it since they were young, and the chances are they were using pen and pencil rather than a paint program.
It's really tricky to draw with a mouse, even a graphics tablet takes a fair bit of getting used to, so pen / pencil then scan is pretty much the way to go. Besides, it's not just restricted to pens / pencil. You can scan images done with pastels , charcoal, whatever. ( although obviously it's a good idea to stick a layer of fixative over it before it goes anywhere near a scanner..<!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> ). You just can't get the same "feel" drawing directly to a digital image..well, I can't anyway..
Also, say you want a "smudged" look on an image..computer way = playing around with smudge tools, brush sizes, several photoshop filters later, the image will probably be quite uniform and "computery looking", which may not be what you are looking for..
hand drawn technique= rub it a bit with yer thumb or a tissue. Far easier, more controllable, quicker.
Try it for yourself: Dont matter if you are good at art or not, just an experiment to demonstrate what I mean..
1) Get a pen and paper, draw something, car, aeroplane, anime tentacle monster destroying Neo-Tokyo, whatever..
2) Open any paint program, and draw exactly the same thing..

I'm not knocking digital art btw..I love paint programs, and I especially love the freedom to experiment without utterly destroying a painting that took you two weeks, I think it encourages trying things just for the hell of it, which is always good..

most ppl draw it , ink it , scan it, put it in either flash mx, jasc psp or adobe then recolour it.
I know most people use a mouse, some use a tablet. meself i cant stand the tablet, a waste of $300. Its not what they say it is...
using mouse is easier to draw with than tablet...well i love drawing with a mouse, i find it easier.
