I Have A Story
<div class="IPBDescription">yay, im back</div> I was on my spring break the past week, so I was absent from the forums. Anyway, My story is I was on Wal-Mart one day and I saw the Planetscape: Torment bargin bin buy, so I decided to get it. I took it to the register and *gasp* they required ID!! Well, I didin't have my drivers license at the time, so I showed him my college ID (im 21 by the way), and he said since there was no date of birth on it so he coulndt accept it(but it did have my picture and name on it) so i showed him my credit card with my neam on it and he still wouldn't accept it. Anyway, I didnt get the game (I went back later and got it though, and they didn't ID me), but I was polite and said that he was only doing his job, and I left, gameless...
So, if you were the person at the cash register, would you have done the same thing he did? I would thaink that having a college ID with my picture and name on it, and a credit card with my name on it, would be enought to prove that I am at least 18 ( and you had to be 17 to buy the game).

IIRC, the cashier/employee is required to make sure the customer (or the person the purchase is for) is equal to or above the age requirement listed on the game box. Sadly, most places don't even seem to check, as I've seen kids half my age (<i>I'm 24</i>) buying games that have the 18+ rating, and the cashier doesn't even seem to realize there's a rating on it. I guess life as a Wal-Mart drone dulls your senses after a while. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
While the proof you provided would clearly prove you're above the minimum age, some places insist on driver's license ID only which is reasonable (<i>although certainly a bit frustrating sometimes</i>).
<b>So, to answer your question:</b>
If the store policy is to accept a license ID only, I'd have to go with the policy. I wouldn't want to lose my job just so the store can make a few bucks from a bargain bin computer game sale. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
Some places will accept basically any ID, as long as the cashier is assured that the customer is above the age. In that case, a credit card + picture ID (ie: your college ID) should be more than enough to prove it.
P.S - Tommorow i shall make my 2000th post.. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
- Night Night
as for CC? I have had one (my mom's account, it was for emergancies) since I was around 15
Only reason I have a learners permit is so that I have proof of my age (though no one checks me for any thing any more, including booze, though I am only 19)
meh, I go with the kid did the right thing, loosing your job b/c you didn't check an ID is a stupid thing to do <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
good job SBV, nice posting
not having valid ID can be annoying
I dint shave for a few days, so I had a short beard (but I could grow a beard when I was under 18, so that dont count anyway)
The guy who carded me looked liked he was 30, so it wasnt a kid
yeah, I know he was just doing his job, but it just bummed me out, im 21, I exepect to get carded for buying alcohol, but not for buying a game, its the only time I have ever been carded for buying a game.
But we don't sell computer games ^-^
And I've had a credit card since I was 16.
And I forgot why I'm posting this already.... Oh well...
would have let you buy the game. However, if you didn't
look 18 or my manager/boss was around i'd probably have to ask. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
Heh, I bought Grand Theft Auto 3 at Wal-Mart (yes, Wal-Mart, I was shocked) and they didn't card me.
personaly I LIKE THEM!
1) I order almost exclusivly o/l so I never get carded
2) When ever some one pulls out the 'games make people violent' I pull out the 'And the have ratings so that parents CAN know WTH little jimmy is playing'. The uninformed then go into a corner and don't come back out <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
