Quality Over Quantity

I know the devs are practicing a policy of quality over quantity which is to
be applauded. But I'm afraid patience is not my strongest point and to me it's beginning
to look like quality over absolutely nothing. I myself though hardly representative of the community
hardly play anymore. I'm just waiting for 1.1.

My point being that I think the community would benefit in terms of size and dynamicsism (<-spelling?)
if 1.1 was released relatively soon. I fear that since playtesting hasn't even started yet
it's going to be a long looong time till 1.1 which as I say can't benefit the community.

p.s. This is not critiscism (heaven forbid) just an observation.
About me, I am no noob I've been playing since the first hour it was released
I have played every conceivable tactic on both teams multiple times.

    You think this is bad.

Did you ever wait that year that Blizzard delayed nearly all of their games from the original release date. Those 3 years between the announcement and the release of C&C:TS, only to see it suck.

dont know where this is going, so i am done.

Play Diablo 2 on the realms. Blizzard still has the game on 1.09d, even though 1.10 was said to be released by august of last year, and look at the month right now.

How long has it been since 1.04 came out? Maybe a month, two at most? And you guys are already getting impatient for a new version? Wow, talk about spoiled. Back in my day we waited 4 or 5 months between Valve's patches to TFC, and that's the way we likesed it. Then there's Holy Wars, which was released and promptly became dead for about a year before the devs updated it.

    Have patience, young grasshoppers.

Speaking as a professional software developer, the NS crew is doing it right. As you can see by looking at all the major game companies: It is not possible to guess when a software product will be done. You can estimate. You can look at industry averages. You can even ask the tea leaves if you want, but they will be wrong. The best way is to not give a release date and just release it when it’s ready. Otherwise you let a buggy, unfinished, rushed version of the software out because you were trying to hit a blatantly incorrect release date that the marketing department made up without asking the programmers what they thought. (The programmers don’t know anyway, that’s probably why they weren’t asked.)

Have patients grasshopper. Go play Super Metroid. It will come in time.

…….Unless the dev team gets hit by a bus.

Maybe the Devs should have covertly labeled 1.1 as 1.05. That way every man and his dog wouldn't be dissatisfied with the great product that 1.04 is.

Some peope rather have a unfinished product to complain about instead of a fully tested product

Exactly I'd rather have the first and then a couple of smaller updates to
follow tweaking it than having to wait ages for one fully tested and perfect in all ways update.

But I guess that's just me. I don't mind bugs or inbalances that much
as long as it's playable which I'm sure 1.1 almost is.

Heh at least your not one of those unfortunate people that are crossing their fingers and praying every night for TF2. Imagine those people how dissapointed they will be and that should give you more patience for 1.1, it sure did me.

You should be glad you weren't completely absorbed by Duke Nukem 3D. Otherwise you'd be tearing your hair out. :)

Even worse than DN3D... Ever played Freespace 1 and 2? It's going to be a long wait before we ever see a "next version" of the Freespace Saga. Ditto with the System Shock series.

Maybe if you plead with Flayra to let you playtest... Hah!

Heh, you obviously never played Age of Kings. Try waiting 2 years and an expansion pack for the damn game to be updated. I dimply recall a patch issued before then, but I think it was a minor thing fixing a flaw. Obviously it wasn't that big of a deal or I would have fully remembered it. A company with a "no patch" policy (that was a Microsoft thing, not an Ensemble Studios thing) sure is a pain.

Btw, my example owns all the previous ones. Diablo2? Meh, at least it GOT to 1.09b. Sequels? Thats sequels, nowhere near as frustrating as a patch. Nerny, nerny, nerny, I win.

Surprised no-one mentioned Starcraft, peeps been waiting for that at least as long as the Diablo2 patch.
