..and moving to the oh so spurned Steam?
Basicaly what it says, I heard that Valve has set a date of when they will shut down the current multiplayer server so they can move every thing to Steam because they are losing money on 2 servers.......but on the bright side, Steam will have a larger bandwith......

You make it sound like it's going to be some giant chore. No matter what they do, I seriously doubt that what we see and do on the client side is going to change.
And last I heard, steam was just a content delivery system... it had nothing at all do with multiplayer authentication. Where on earth did you hear this?
Steam doesn't support all mods, so they'd basically shoot their fanbase in the face by doing so.
Think about it, until ALL OTHER mods adopted Steam, all you would be able to play would be CS, Ricchochet, or TFC. Now I know CS is a major part of the HL community, but it's hardly the entire amount of people that play Half-Life.
If they're doing it, they're **** off copious amounts of people in the process.
... and Steam will be merely an autentication gateway for these mods.
