Team Balance

<div class="IPBDescription">...in the ready room?</div> i've started mapping again, and i've got close to half my ready room done.... and the point arises

Is it normal to balance the teams based on which one you can reach first?

Example -
would it be bad map creation if it takes longer to get to marines (since they are more popular)?

i've got observe and random looking straight at you, and from there, i've got to the left, and down a ramp then SHORT hallway, marine start... on the opposite side (right) you go down the ram, and bam, your on aliens.... is this bad placement or un-needed balance?

    its not gonna really do anything, stackers are still gonna go for it, unless maybe its all the way at the other end of the map <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    It's unneeded.

    Frankly, if it took too long to reach a join team location, it would just be annoying. No one likes being forced or tricked into joining a certain team. Putting the marine join a really long ways away wouldn't deter people from joining marines, but it would deter them from wanting to play your map. Just accept that some people like playing marines, and no readyroom setup will--or should--stop them.

    You can bind the join team console commands anyway, so if people don't care about seeing the readyroom they can just bypass your measures anyway.

    The few times I've lingered in the readyroom, I've seen numerous people join the server, then they're on a team without moving. I guess some people are so obsessed with only playing on one team that they've scripted '<b>jointeamone</b>' or '<b>jointeamtwo</b>' to a button.

    Make a bottemless pit that is unavoidable and put the "random team" ent at the bottom. That is MY ready room!

    i'ts SUPOSED to entice people to join random...since you spawn looking at it...

    and it's not a LONG way (why do you think i flames SHORT at you?)... it's only 2 steps further down a hall than aliens is...

    i won't do that, because some of the time, i make a lan game to test my models, and i HAVE to join marines/aliens or i can't see the model i've made...

    it is tempting to do that, stackers really annoy me, but it just not fair, especially if your in a clan, clan match, or want to play with some friends.

    what you could do is cover you rr in a random team brush, and trigger it on after, say, 30 seconds, that way it gives everyone time to join, and then forces the stackers to play or leave. Only problem with this is people who join mid-game will automatically be randomized.

    About that unavoidable pit with random in the bottom...

    How about this?
    A normal readyroom with a huge airlock covering the floor which opens slowly after half a minute or more.
    And then it could close again to make late joiners able to choose teams.

    Add a cool soundeffect like the beeping on the doors in Hera entrance and reception and some rotating lights. That would be pretty nifty.

    That ^^^^ reminds me of the last action sequence in Aliens. Flashing light and all.
    Its a good idea, but won't late joiners be going random anyway? (or at least prevented from going on an unbalanced side....)

    dunno if its been said ,but if you want to balance in the ReadyRoom ,only make Random team ....

    guess thats fair <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->

    make the way to random team much shorter than the way to both teams, but keep both team entrances close to each other.

    Actually, 'random' in the ready room isn't that fair because if the teams are even, you will always go alien.

    Yeah. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->
