Splinter Cell

meh
Well, I got the demo of it on ps2.
It's part of the level where you have to get to some guy's computer. Meh. Who said this game isnt linear? Who said this game is amazing? Why dont guards see my shiny green lights fixed on top of my head?
On the other hand, I might just buy The Sims on ps2. A monkey butler is a shame to pass up.

That said, yes the game is painfully linear. I've never heard otherwise though...
As far as amazing, I was quite impressed with it. Enjoyed every bit of it till the end, which is remarkable since I hate all other Tom Clancy games...
Question: So um why don't the gaurds see the green lights?
Devs: Well, it just looked so damned cool that we had to leave it in there. We had to argue Tom about it but I think coolness over realism was a good call here.
True. It's too linear, the AI is average, there's a couple scripted parts that force you into firefights (I'm the sort who likes always having the option), the plotline is clichéd, and the green lights are there only for coolness factor.
But despite all of this, it's the best stealth-oriented game the PC has had in awhile, and I did beat it, meaning I was having enough fun with it not to give it up.
My guess is the only reason I had such an easy time on the hardest difficulty is because a couple weeks before I'd beaten Hitman 2 (IMO, a far better game marred by lack of options to turn off radar and one AI bug in a map in Japan). After that half-week of Splinter Cell, I used the other half-week to beat No One Lives Forever 2. We need one game in this genre to get it right, and I get the impression we'll have to wait for Deus Ex 2 and Theif 3.
Which reminds me: mR.Waffles, /me likes your Deus Ex-quoted sig
It stinks. Like a pile of rotting manure from several herds of various farm animals.
As for the green lights on you - that's for the player's benefit of being able to see Sam in the dark and know which way he's facing. They serve no point in the game other than a mechanism to make your life much, much easier.
But some things I've noticed :
1) Health bar. What the ****? Didnt people say this game was painfully realistic. In the demo, I could stand around and wait for a while , when the two guys are pumping me full of lead. then I pull out my gun and kill them all. I dont care what kind of suit he has, ai should shooot in the head.
2) Medpacks. Which he doesnt use. He just sort of sits on them. Wow.
3) If your hands are occupied, you switch goggles by nodding
4) He looks extremely horrible jumping
5) The story is too clever for it's own good
6) I had a guard walk up next to me before he even saw me
7) The levels themselves dont make a lot of sense.
I loved Hitman 1 and I enjoyed hitman 2. Their levels actualy had different paths, and different weapons and such. Anyone remember lee hong assasination?
PS: About linearity, I heard a bunch of people say that you choose what you do and such so you can replay it a bunch of times.
PPS: Deus Ex, now theres a game
Yes I do it took me something like two hours to do ****!
Now if only Hitman would work on XP....
What's cool about it was that when you were spotted it wasnt neccery over, but definitely extremely hard.
Too bad the game went downhill from there to the jungle levels, hotel ( it was cool, but so much stuff in it wasnt used), and the train level. Which is where I stopped playing. Because it was stupid.
I took half an hour on the first level to find that pipe to cross the broken hallway. That of course quite discourages you... But I really loved the demo so I'd say I'll continue.
Killing a dog in china ambassy cost me the game. And of course that's quite annoying seeing as how much I save.
You can turn on and off your NVGs without anyone saying anything when you're told not to move.
The beginning of the last mission is quite annoying. Especially the wall jump can be made a bit better imo.
Deus Ex 2 WILL be da bomb, I bet!!!
