Mostly Bryce
Starting things off is a picture of the librarian at my high school. I used bryce to make it. I took a digital picture of him, used fractals, and uh.. er.. if you know what I'm talking about you know what I did...

Neat sunset / comet picture, again done in bryce. The comets were done by using lights

Simple building I made when I first started using Bryce. Built of positive and negative primitives.

My pride and joy.. this one took a while, and I never really did get to finish the mountains in the background. I originally wanted it to look like the thing off 'Contact' but the rings gave me too much of a headache.

I know it is a bit picky, but in the last terragen picture, the water is wrong. The waves in the ocean are way too big. Just think of the scales. I do not use Bryce so I would not know of its limitations though.

Brilliant work all the same.

Yea the last picture I meant to work on some more but I got tired of looking at it. I was going to mess around with the sun more (I had to actually darken the reflection in the water a LOT before I posted it), and probably mess around with the water. Uh, no I don't make skies or anything. Thanks for the praise though everyone, oh and Blue youre a big poo poo head!

*Edit*

If you guys want me to though I'll start making skies Just uh.. tell me what dimensions / specifications they have to be, cause I know nothing about them.

*Edit Again*

Now that I really look... I think the comet picture is crap I should have placed them MUCH MUCH MUCH further into the background... right now they just look stupid... ah well the sunset looks pretty cool.

New Terragen render

looks good. You still have the size problem, are that mountains or rocks. If thay are mountains that sure are some large waves to make all that white foam in the water.
• OttoDestructOttoDestruct Join Date: 2002-11-08 Member: 7790Members
Yes it was supposed to be a shoreline (Rocks, not mountains). Terragen crashed on me shortly after saving the picture, so I wasnt able to save the world, but yes I was planning on sizing the waves down.

Or the other way to look at it could be that the edges of the water look too calm for that scale as well, like there should be spray from the waves crashing against the cold, snow covered mountains. Wouldn't a mist or fog around the the edges of the water be a simple way to alleviate any of that by kinda covering it up?

Oh, and as far as the 2nd shoreline picture is concerned, that looks great, the scale isn't so bad, since having lived on this edge of the Pacific Ocean for a good portion now in BC, Canada, that looks almost dead on, though if those are supposed to be rocks, they seem a bit like erosion hasn't quite gotten to them the way I'm familiar with waves constantly crashing against them does. And yes, if it is mountains, that much foam can be produced on a shoreline from crashing waves. In fact, if those were rocks, the entire "blue" part there would be white from sea foam. You should see the waves crashing against the rocks and sand on the west coast of Vancouver Island some time, its absolutely beautiful.

BTW, sweet pictures dude, I love artists work, just wish I had the cash to pay for it.

In reply to CanadianWolverine:

Yea I tried adding a fog but Terragen didn't want to cooperate with me

*Edit*

And in case anyone was wondering, the foam in the picture was done in terragen, not in any photoshop-esque program. Only thing I touched up was the jaggies... *sigh* someone needs to gimme some money so that I can get the full version of Terragen so I can use the anti-alias on it.

New image.. need to re-render it though. Sky didn't turn out how I wanted and I think the mountains are ugly. Anyways I'm gonna do another, modifying the sky only, then a third getting rid of the mountains for an all ocean scene (the mountains really cover up a awesome sun effect that I was going for This is my first attempt at sun rays in Terragen) Other misc info: 358587 quadrilaterals render time 1:41:16

Otto i have a few questions about Terragen:
1. Where can i get it?
2. How much does it cost?
3. Is it 100% with pictures from Bryce?

thanks
• sheena_yanaisheena_yanai Join Date: 2002-12-23 Member: 11426Members
you can download terragen for free

here

The Single User License costs $79 USD.

no..the rederengine is a bit better, but you cant import any objects into your scenes like in bryce, picture tubes are possible.
and its a helluva easy program to work with..

Sheena how do you un-uglify clouds I turned on 3D clouds and cloud and atmosphere shading to high in the settings but they ended up ugly. Nice work too.

*Edit*
And whats the easiest way to get fine lines in the terrain like in that last picture of yours.

How long does it take to learn Bryce? It took me about three weeks to funny undestand adobe photoshop, what do you think I would use to learn Bryce?

Everything here is extreme
• OttoDestructOttoDestruct Join Date: 2002-11-08 Member: 7790Members
Pretty much the biggest thing to learn in bryce IMO is how to use primitives (spheres, cubes, etc) and learning how to correctly group positives negatives and neutrals. After that its pretty easy to figure out by yourself, but if you do ever pick it up I can recommend a site with a LOT of good tutorial links.
