New Medpack Upgrade In V1.1

<div class="IPBDescription">What do you guys think about it?</div> Flayra told us last night in #natural-selection about a new upgrade for the Comm Chair. It may cost 15 resources to upgrade the <i>ABILITY</i> to drop medpacks.

I think thats a pretty cool tweak to the game, personally. I really think it should cut down on those games where crackshot marines rush your hive and go into "lockdown" mode where the comm drops them medpacks and ammo.

I think this will probably give the aliens a chance to survive past the first 10 minutes of the game.

    Personally, I dont like. I prefer a progressive healthing effect of a medpack, but I dont want to convert this topic in a Medspam yes/Medspam no.

    Yeah many of us there at the time were very into this new idea for medpacks. Can't wait to see it in action.

    load up mirc, and get to the server selection screen, click the add button, enter anything u want for description e.g. (gamesnet) then put irc.gamesnet.net in the irc server box, leave port on 6667, leave group and password blank and press add. Then fill in your name details nickname etc, and hit connect, once in there join channel naturalselection by either using the box that pops up or typing /join #naturalselection in the command line.

    thats about it.

    After you're connected and the MOTD scrolls by, type '/join #naturalselection'

    Congratulations! You're in the channel. Futz with the connection manager to add GamesNET to your server list for quicker connection.

    i dont like this , if it was possible for he commander to drop health packs in a range of a CC that would be much better and <b>then</b> upgrade to be able to drop any where on the map.

    Sounds good, no med-spam early rushes, and an extra 15res investment before you start handing out the JP/HMG (not that I ever hand JPs out unless I need someone to kill an annoying lerk, they should call them rambo kits). Not that I've ever been annoyed by medspam anyway though.

    Well, back on topic:

    I don't like the idea that you have to research dropping medpacks.
    I agree, that medspam is bad, but i would rather see a prograssive healing (like when a Marine recives a medpack, his health will go up 10 points per second for a 5 second durationL;). This would give the Aliens a better chance to take down Marines that get health spammed.

    Another thing related to Medpacks/Ammopack i would really like to see "fixed" is, that Aliens can the the "+50" or "Ammo recieved".. even through walls.
    Although an Alien player SHOULD hear that, the Text gives a too good point where the Marine exactly is.

    I dont like it......

    it also means aliens' 1st rush is now much more potent (altho no comms usually even attempt to drop meds to help because the marines SHOULD survive)

    and IMO all rushing needs to be nerfed.....not just marines' rushing.....I hate quick games

    Because clearly the only intention is to weaken the marines ability to pull an immediate rush / relocate / offensive relocate. 15 res for this upgrade is a pretty meaningless sum, but the possible research time before it is available means it is now harder to pull risky early rush / relocate tactics, that may rely on medpacks to keep marines alive while they build IPs or camp a location.

    Just increasing medpack cost would not have this effect at all.

    I like it. At the very least it diversifies the tech tree and gaves more options to commanders. It also has the balancing elements TeoH mentions.

    I wonder if you have to research the ability to build in hive locations and drop ammo ?

    Edit: On second thought I bet the ability is to be able to drop both ammo and medpacks.

    I think if this change is implemented the Commander should have to research ammo drops as well. Or, maybe not.

    do we get medpacks without giving resources after the upgrade or does the upgrade just leaves a medpack whenever you want with the cost of 2 resources ?

    I would also rather see a time-release effect for the medpack.

    If you give someone with an infection some antibiotics, they aren't healed instantly. Its a slow process that takes some time. Medpacks should be the same way.

    Just change the story behind the medpacks. Instead of insta-healing, make it a nano-pack or something. The nanites repair the marine's wounds, slowly, not instantly.

    Or how about a fixed delay between dropping medpacks? 2-5 seconds should solve the problem. Then no more spammage over a short duration of time.

    I DON"T believe we'll be seeing free medpacks in NS. I could be blatently speculating. But I'm certain I'm correct here <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
    As far as I can tell the ability to drop medpacks now has to be researched. Once it's been researched, you can drop them as normal. Prior to the upgrade I'm assuming they're unavailible.

    I think medpacks cost enough already.

    Also say the comm drops lots of medpacks in one spot either try and knock him out of his medpack spam or lerk spike him, each time you spike him he uses a medpack for only 18 hp

    The time delay idea might be ok, but it would mean u can only heal 1 marine per 2-5 seconds, i think it would be better if they could make it so that individual marines can only receive a medpack once every second or two, that way the comm can still drop several packs at once, but one marine cant use them all instantly. Overall i think this is good news, now Flayra just has to sort out the med-spam problem.

    I don't like it... surely there are other ways to stop marine rushing. Heal-over-time would be a MUCH better alternative imho. Or even just make it so medpacks can't be dropped within a certain radius of an active hive because of the gridlock, for example.
