Well reading the Scariest Game thread was really interesting, so here it is.

Mine was probably The Blair Witch project (I know, I know), The Thing and Rosemary's Baby.\

P.S. By scary I dont mean that it disturbed you, or disgusted you, I mean a movie that left you badly shaken after seeing it.

I haven't seen a good scary movie in many years, so I'll be watching this thread closely.

Pretty much all 'scary' movies nowadays are just 'surprise' horror (ie: someone jumping out from around a wall). Although "Jason X" was good for a laugh.

the ring
the outsiders? i don't think the outsiders is the correct name but it was about this mom and her two kids who couldn't be exposed to sunlight
exorcist (f**ked up movie!)
terminal velicity was a good movie, its kind of half horror, not very scary but still good

Edit: BTW its Se7en you noob
I haven't seen it but this kid in my geometry class is always talking about it, its up there on my list of "to see's"

The movie with Brad Pitt? More disturbing than scary, thats what kept The Excorsist off my list.

Haha... The Ring... that movie was such a disappointment.

It was good, but the ending just ruined it so much for me.

1. the little freak girl comes out of a well... JUST like she did in the end of the movie... "letting her out" (according to the freak boy) did what?
2. IT'S A FREAKING CHAIN LETTER! I was so mad when I saw that part... I mean, it just made the whole movie like a cheesy inbox chain letter... I was waiting for the credits to plead "make 10 people watch this movie or bad people will throw moldy cheese at you!"

Then I learned it's a remake of a Japanese film.. I'm like "yeah that's very japanese"

The movie you're referring to is "The Others". That movie was alright, although I wasn't quite expecting the ending (although I should have!!).

And, IMO, "The Ring" was just baaad. It was interesting to watch, but the ending made no sense and wasn't even partially believeable. I could understand the curse and how it worked, but .... (I won't spoil the ending for those who haven't seen it).

Comon, you can't say watching the ring, seeing that green b**ch in the closet in a movie theater with the sound up so high didn't make you shat your pants. I'll admit, the ending was a bit...disappointing though.

Barbara Bush gone Wild

shudder

Seriously... I'd probably have to say Carrie. That movie just freaked me out. I was also mighty ascared of 'Thirteen Ghosts'. That was a combination of 'Wow this is so cool' and 'wow I'm so freaked out'

And I didn't like the Ring. It seemed so stupid and pointless, and it failed explaining what happened. It gave you WHY people were dying, but not anything with the how.

The only two movies I've ever been unable to sit all the way through are Day of the Triffids and Audition.

Horror movies rarely do it for me. They do offer some temporary shocks but no lasting damage. The last time I was shaken by a movie was when I was watching David Lynch's Lost Highway alone in a dark living room. The video sequences that show someone filming inside the main character's house disturbed me greatly. I don't exactly know why but that stuff was eeeevol beyond anything a real horror movie has ever given me.

Movies that creeped me out were The Ring and The Others. First Time I saw Akira it blew my mind and gave me a nightmare about the world ending and stuff (I about 9 at the time.) Event Horizon is a killer "shock" movie, so is Aliens. I actually enjoyed the first Scream movie, but it's sequals were lame as hell.

[rant] But any scary movie can turn into a comedy if you don't allow yourself to become immersed in its world. I hate it when people say "Ohh that can't happen in real life!" Well DUH, but in that movie's reality, it can and does, so shut up and enjoy the movie. Otherwise, stop watching it. [/rant]

I personally hated the ring. Apart from a few popouts, that movie was complete bull****. Why in the name of **** did noone destroy that tape?

Basically i cant stand popout horror movies. They usually have little/no plot and are only there to throw stuff out of the shadows. I can get enough of that by running down dark corridors that i know skulks are waiting in. I prefer the more chilling, haunting, psychological horror movies.

Event Horizon.
The Exorcist.
The Blob (I was 8 at the time. For months I couldnt go into a room w/o looking at the celing)
Se7en was creepy the first time I saw it.
The 9th Gate got creepy near the end.
Psycho. Makes you realize that
Documentaries of really bad people. Bundy, Berkowits, Manson, etc... Hell, i live in the Green River Killer's back yard.

No movie has ever truly scared me, as in made me hope out of my seat, or made me afriad or anything, but The Ring freaked my **** out. I love that movie.

Speaking of David Lynch, anyone seen Erasorhead? That's a disturbing movie and a half. 27 Days Later is a pretty damn cool movie, although most of the shock value comes from sharp loud noises...still a good movie though.

I found Candyman a bit scary when I saw it as a kid, but not really much so anymore.

The original Ring was pretty damn scary, although I only really paid attention to the end.

I find it hard to get scared by movies anymore. The only movie I know of which I have a hard time watching is Requiem for a Dream, but that's not scary, that's just disturbing.

<edit> From Hell is very cool too; I think some might find that scary.

If you like psychological horror movies, I suggest Joy Ride. Very, very creepy.

The Ring (had a few scary moments)
Wes Craven Presents They (had a relaps of night-terrors)
Darkness Falls (stay in the f***ing light!)
Dreamcatcher (Sh*t weasels? Evil!)

I list the rest later.

I have Eraserhead on VHS. It's rather odd and creepy but somehow also extremely hilarious. The mutant baby wins the prize for weirdest prop ever hands down.

Heh, yeah - that mutant baby was the star of the entire movie.
