1.1 Shorter Game Time. Good Idea?

Some of the features in 1.1 were:
1) More diversity of tactics, along with more play-time at the 2 and 3 hive stages
2) Fewer stalemates
3) Faster and more intense gameplay (average game time in v1.04 is 22 minutes, v1.1 target is around half that, though epic games still possible)

There are some things that I read in 1.1 that I do and don’t like. I like the fact that there will be more play-time at the 2 and 3 hive stages. This is good. I don’t think I have ever been in a stalemate in playing probably 25 games a week since the game was released. Is this a problem on the clan servers? There were some long games (and those are the most fun in my opinion), but I can’t think of one that was called as a tie.

However I don't know if I like the faster gameplay (with more play time at 2 and 3 hive stages?). If anything I would like to extend it a bit. The thing I liked about NS was you had time to develop a strategy and react to their strategy. However this requires good game balance and timing. I actually prefer the early part of the game with skulks vs the light machine guns, as this tends to be more 1 on 1 combat. I really can't comment on the gameplay as I haven't played it, but I find the shorter game length.... troubling...

I think they ruined Unreal Tournament when they made UT II more Quake like, I hope they don’t do the same thing to Natural selection.

One thing I hope they do is take out the lame alien dieoff when the last hive is killed. I learned the maps well when I was searching for the remaining aliens and the comm can find them easy enough just by pinging.

    Personally my idea game time is a short start, fast enough resources for aliens to start building a 2nd hive just as marines are getting 2nd upgrades...all that in about 6 or 7 minutes would be ideal with a fairly long battle over the 3rd and 2nd hives to determine the outcome.

    The long games that I dont like are those where it's obvious that all is lost for one side, but the other can't or won't finish it quickly. Otherwise I don't mind long games as such, just they must be relatively interesting and undecided till near the very end.

    It would seem that all those awsome possum war stories all come from the longer games. I tend to agree that I like the longer games as well. I dont want NS to turn into an Uber rush race like CS. This in my opinion would lead to a more restrictive approach when you talk about viable strategies even with the new options that will be availible in 1.1 But thats my opinion. I think I read somewhere that new rounds would be like 12 min long. Sorry if Im wrong. but wow thats fast when you think about it. I can see where people dont have time for or dont like the 1 hour + games. i think 25-35 min rounds are the best mixture. this gives time to explore new strats as well not prolonging the game for too long.
