Normal flight is easy, but more precise control for when you start shooting/aiming at targets is sorely needed.

Forgot to write. He killed many enemys when he was in the air too. He also destroyed a tank all by himself.
But why did you write then "The control for air vehicles is a joke, probably the worse flying physics ive ever seen in a game." when you now say that Normal flight is easy??

Well pressing forward to move and turning left and right are kind of difficult to make hard, theyre simple key strokes.

I dont care if youve seen a demo, you havent played it so you dont know. Im telling you in my opinion that fly control is awful, accept disagree or ignore it but dont try and argue with me when you have not tried it yourself.

This has been my experience with the Beta Test so far.

I live on Vancouver Island in BC, Canada and I recieved my notification that was accepted for Beta testing on April 8 and sent my mailing info in on April 11, I think.

Here's a copy of the email that I recieved from The Station@sony.com:

Greetings WolverineCANADA,

The PlanetSide Development Team has reviewed your beta application, and we are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted into our Open Beta Test.

[Edit]Link Removed[/Edit]

Please take a moment to fill out this address form, making sure to sign in with the Station Account referenced in the greeting above. The sooner you can provide your shipping information, the sooner we can get your beta discs to you. There is no charge to you whatsoever, SO PLEASE HURRY. Remember that, in order to participate, you must agree to the Terms of Use and License Agreement (which you will see and be asked to agree to when you load the beta version of the game).

As a beta tester, you will also have access to our exclusive beta tester website. We ask that you visit this beta site on a regular basis in order to report bugs, and to be kept apprised of our testing schedule. You will also find a private message forum to discuss the beta testing program with other beta testers. You can visit this beta website at http://www.planetside.com/beta

We want to thank you for helping us test PlanetSide, and we appreciate your support.

Sincerely,

-The PlanetSide[TM] Team
Sony Online Entertainment

P.S. In preparation for the arrival of your Beta Discs, you should visit the website of your graphics and sound card manufacturers and check that you are running the absolute latest drivers. This will help ensure that any difficulties you experience in Beta are bugs on our end, rather than with driver issues.

Also, don't forget to stay abreast of the latest news and information by visiting the official website at http://www.planetside.com

For those of you who are a part of the Beta, you will have noticed, the link for the Beta website was wrong. I sent an email asking why the link was bad, but I have yet to recieve a response. I only just recieved the actual link from a friend who was also accepted on to the Beta testing, but they recieved an email with the proper Beta website link, a CD key, and the necissary instructions for downloading the Planetside Beta. He has been beta testing for a few quite a few days now.

Well, I'm sending an email to see if they can give me the information to download the beta. Its really too bad that I couldn't have started earlier, I would've liked to see how I could help find bugs and glitches, not to mention see if the gameplay is what its being advertised as.

sounds to me like you got hosed, wolfie. Signed up, didn't get in, which is a good thing since NS will kill my grades enough to flunk me out of college.

Planetside is amazing. Simply put, gosh darn amazing. I was a sniper for a while, but I find it to be more effective to use a combat rifle. Snipers need upgrades (ie; more specialized weapons, maybe AoE zoom lock or something). Aside from that, there is SO MUCH DIVERSITY its frigging amazing.

One minute you can be in an infiltration suite, invisible inside an enemey base, stalking a light armor. The next you can be a wall of destruction - a MAX suite. Following this you can be a grunt who launches nades, fires armor piercing bullets, and hacking vehicles.

Not to mention the vehicle drivers. Thats a whole nother thing entirely. Also, if you are in a dog fight press T to look at 3rd person mode (also helps in infiltration suite to see how visible you are). This allows you to flip around and get on their tail, then switch back to FP for aiming.

Guess the only reason I'm on these boards now is that PS is down

Oh, an update on my little experience as a PlanetSide Beta Tester. I recieved the Beta CDs a few days ago, and then proceeded to install it, then launch it using the desktop icon. This took me to the LaunchPad app, which then proceeded to download all the patches for the game in beta, which took a couple of hours. After that was finished up a couple times, I was all set to go. It took me like another couple hours to get used to the interface, which I still am far from mastering. Then, luckily I had a friend in the beta as well, and he gave me tips and showed me around and helped me get into a few good fights. After that enjoyable experience thanks to my friend, I tried to play by myself a few times. Frustration city trying to deal with most of the types of player there, not too many of them in it for working as a team but rather to "boost" their character with exp so they could earn their next Battle Rank (aka level). I tried out this and that, played around with the certification system, and eventually it crashed to desk top. Then a few patches later, the servers are down, and apparently all the beta testers' characters have been removed. Cool, should be interesting to see what happens with people all on about even footing in the start. Thats about all I have done so far and in that time I have managed to report 2 bugs in detail and experienced numerous other bugs that I did not have enough detail to bother reporting.

Okay, this game has had is good moments and its bad moments in beta test so far for me.
Good:
- Playing with a friend
- Being a part of a large offensive
- Being cheered on by my friend as I discovered new things
- Driving a tank over a grounded enemy aircraft
- Discovering that I could unlearn a certification
Bad:
- Being accused of not being a team player despite playing to my strengths and winning a base for my squad
- Trying to figure out how hit the right keys when starting to play
- Getting lost all by myself in the incredibly huge maps
- Having bugs without enough details or repeatable to bother putting in a report
- Having very bad frame rates in large battles

Well, it seems they plan to release this game for retail on May 20. I'm getting the impression this game may be getting rushed to retail by its publishers, as the developers seem to be releasing a flurry of patches for nearly every aspect of the game and taking the servers down alot. This could easily mean that the Beta Test will end and when you first install the retail version, you'll immediately have to download a fair sized patch just to play for the first time, but that is just my speculation, even though that same sentiment seems to be echoed in the chat rooms for beta testers. That almost makes me wonder if the beta test is being used as a sort of demo, to get players hooked into buying the retail.

It seems to me that so far, with my experiences, I would rather play Natural Selection than buy PlanetSide. It just bugs me that there isn't more tying teams (aka squads) together than experience points earned. It almost like they need something to facilitate social events so you can meet and get to know other players better than just by what kills they get. It seems kinda odd that something as simple as a ready room in NS makes it better than PS, but that's the call I'm going to have to make for now. Also, while you can conquer entire continents, which earns big experience, it bugs me that the game doesn't allow for complete control of the planet. I think that would be better than the never ending war, even if it meant all of the players' characters were reset on that particular server.

I'll let you know if things get better and subsequently my opinion of the game.
