That would be nice. Valve would have it in the bag if it allowed all the hl mods playble with graphical enhancements.

Have you guys seen those new pics tho? And they said making a mod w/ the code is going to be easier than before.

*Slaps head* What's with all these topics "NS2 0MGZ0RZ." It's gonna be 5 months and a lot of additional time to eve code it. So don't excite yourself. Look foward to 1.1 instead.

How many topics are we going to have on this? This has been brought up so many times. Before HL2 was even announced.

IMO NS should be perfected and completed on the HL1 engine before any talk of even moving to a new engine. Its my guess that any sequel to the game if the first really takes off will be retail only in the same way that TF2 and CS2 will be standalone games.

NS is already a CPU hog with the old HL engine, imagine a cutting edge dealy! Staggeringly intensive on your old think box. Ah well, new computer in september to replace my Athlon 900.

    /me cannot wait

Its a CPU hog because of the way it handles structures in the game. If flay had the time to rework the engine from the ground up im sure the CPU usage of the structures in the game could be drmatically brought down to near 0 and im sure the new 'valve engine' could more than cope...

HL2 is scheduled for Sep 03, and even though their track record in the past has not always been great, TFC2, I think they are going to make this date, or come close. I think this is why TFC2 was delayed for so long.

One good point is that with a new engine from scratch, they can incororate their anti-cheat from the start and also keep cheating in mind when they release, which I think they will due, do to their experience with cheating and the current HL.

On another note about porting, how long do you think they will support mods geared towards HL1 when they have a new, better engine to maintain? My opinion is that they won't divide their time between the old and the new. Just my opinion. Then again i am a big fan of Valve. I have never had a game that was useful to me for over 4 / 5 years. You must admit that compared to other gaming companies they are very friendly to their customer base and keep the lines of communication open. Dice, makers of BF1942, are taking a lesson from Valve, and so is EA.

All in all I think it is good that HL2 is coming out, and I wouldn't be suprised if Valve offered to help NS port it over when the time is right.

yea, the guys ( and girls ) at valve seems nice, and they want to make money right ? and that is done by supporting the community, wich they did a great job with all these years....

come on think about it. they have spent a very very long time workin on NS for HL1 and are working on their very first client-side patch. right now the graphics are already good compared to other mods. we have a very dedicated team and we really dont need to do alot more work and create a whole new game for a new engine. even tho HL2 does have amazing graphics i must say <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> it wouldnt be fair to the dev team to have to upgrade all the current models, textures, and maybe even the maps :\ but apparently Valve has spent a lot of time making this in easy way to remake mods onto the improved engine. but we really dont need to discuss a seriously over discussed topic... <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo--> but i do see in the future NS for HL2 just not right away...maybe NS2 for HL2 <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

Im pretty sure he means that NS2 will take a year or two, not HL2.

If the original devs didn't want to create a whole new NS from scratch in the HL2 engine, perhaps they could just port it from HL1 (hopefully this will be easy; I'm just now taking my first C course) with minimal work. I've seen some professional-grade modelling talent on these forums, and it is prob just wishful thinking on my part, but maybe they could create all the new models and textures to take some of the work off the masterminds behind Natural Selection. Some of the people on these forums believe that good graphics aren't necessary and "if you want them NS isn't for you." Just because I like pretty things does not mean I cannot strategize and work as a team; that is the whole premise of NS and I believe one of the reasons it is so successful with us and many more. Where is it written in stone that thinking games must have barren and ugly graphics? Oh well, guess that was kind of off topic, but I'm sick of people saying that I don't appreciate NS because I like Unreal 2 quality graphics... Peace, love, and happy hunting (in HL2!).

It's not that easy unfortunately. While they could port over the NS designs, the code will most likely be rewritten from scratch. Remember that HL2 uses a new engine.

However, HL2 will probably be more mod friendly, and I'm sure some code bottlenecks that slowed down the NS development with HL1 won't be present in HL2.

I wouldn't mind playing NS2 someday in the future ! <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->. But, it's up to the devteam. Probably, if i can predict anything at all (yeah right..) Valve first releases HL2 and then produces SDK (Full/MP), so i bet we have to wait.. but the retail mods are probably getting it alot faster (cs/dod/ns?? <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->) maybe.

    Thumbs up for HL2!

I'm pretty sure I read it somewhere in one of the print mags (if not, I've fooled myself into believing its true without any official confirmation), but porting an existing HL mod to HL2 should be an incredibly simple process. If this is true, the bigger time delay will be from us remaking all the models and maps to take advantage of the better technology. I don't think Flayra wants to recode NS from scratch, but I'm pretty sure most of the modellers and mappers wouldn't mind if it meant more detail.

Flayra is as excited over HL2 as anyone. Whether or not we shall see NS2, will depend on how easy it will be to port a HL1 mod over to HL2.
now, unless Valve have a screw loose, it will be very very easy. But imagine the possibilities for NS on HL2! it wont just be "prettier" (and its dam pretty as it is) but we would definately see some more features...Flamethrower anyone?

Why do i get the feeling that there are going to be hundreds of these threads?
its going to be a long 5 months....of course, to shut everyone up about NS2 we need some new 1.1 information! <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
