My First (real) Comm

A story of my victory
Many of you dont know me, I was in the community pre-release, played when our day of happy came, then went under. I recently re-emerged and became a pretty good player. I pwn with gorge, and make a pretty good rine. I had yet one mount to conquer.... commanding.....

Sure, I join games where it is 2 v 2, aliens have 2 hives, we have teched up a lil and have a nice res flow. Hop into comm chair, get gear, go fight. Also I have tried to comm from the begginng of games. The first time I did this was right when I first returned..... Quickly i build basics: IP, Armoury, TF, a few turr... !!!! TF <EJECTED>. So I played and played and played. I finaly decided to try once again on my first and favorite map: ns_bast

I join the game, not expecting to Comm, however the other guy says "Me not comm" So i hop into the chair. A few people join and I quickly make my IP, armoury. mines, and then a second IP. After defeating the first to waves or so I send my squad to Atmospheric. Three people arrive as I build my first RT there. I watch as it sits. One rine comes on voice comm: "you two build, Ill guard."..... ..... .... A few seconds later: "Build...." "Huh?" As the first rine explains to my newb I relize I am going to lose.... A vet comes and asks me what hive they have. I quickly check the locations and cant seem to tell. "Our comm is a n00b, eject him" I know I am gone, I cant seem to get these guys in order.

I live for a bit longer as I set up a second RT and now an arms lab at my base. I upgrade my armoury(JP rush sux0rz) and send my 3 rines to feedwater as the vet with them explains: "Okay, now we wait for an order, okay lets goto the waypoint." Ofcourse they run into a hive and start fighting. I try to heal them, put up and observatory, and a prototype lab all at once. They do well.... but die.....

About this time I am still getting armour 2 then weps 1, I drop jetpacks and a few rush feedwater again. A new person joins who I give a jp. She goes off on her own... another rine on their own: "They are putting up ref" I tell everyone to get to ref, but they dont last to long... : rine: "the got fades we lose"

Rember that chick that went off alone? Well as I am busy reserching a look at my minimap, their is a rine sitting peacefully in engine. I drop a tf and turrets, and the snag the rt there.....

As my vets(now acting like newbies) begin to beg for HMG's(I have dropped a few, but they keep getting lost) I notice my rt's at atmos are gone..... I send a few rines over and build one than two rt's.. "GIVE ME HMG and JP!!!!" I finally get motion(I am an idiot but I needed RT's...)

At this time I have decent res flow and drop a few jp/hmg sets. I send a squad to feedwater and go off to help other rines. I come back to feedwater and help a little, leave come back and my rines are gone..... "Is feedwater clear" I ask? "Yes" w00t w00t to meh.

I drop a few turrets and snag the 2 rt's nearby. Now the res flow is really good and I plan to siege the refinery and use HMG/HA rines. I drop everyone HA/HMG or JP/HMG and send them off. I try to send a rine to the area where I want to set up my siege but as I look at the refinery i see my HA/HMGs pwning. (level 2 armour, 3 weps, getting 3 armour) I win!!!!

As we pop into the readyroom the standard gg's come up as i say "First time comming ;-)"
Some of the alien teams responds: "Impossible" "No way" etc. ;-) Yea for meh!!!!!

Basic layout:
Built IP
Armoury
MINES MINES MINES
IP number 2
Atmospheric rt's
Upgrade armoury
Arms lab
Start armour1upgrade
Attack Feed water
Get observatory/Prototype lab
Upgrade to JP's
Upgrade armourlvl 2
Get atmospheric RT's
get motion tracking
Secure Engine
Upgrade HA
Upgrade weps to lvl 1
take/secure feedwater
weps lvl 2
HA/HMG all over
armour 3
attack Refinery
Win as upgradeing my last upgrade: weps 3

I did alright for a n00b comm ;-)

you'll learn that happy marines are marines with level 2 weapons, level 1 armor

    Otherwise, nice job!

I know the basics, I know what needs to get done, but I find it hard to get enough marines to get reliable results, so I always go for the jp/hmg rush.

gj its good when players learn how to com because 5% of the loses are because noone knows how to com so they wont jump in and build infantry portals and they wont be respawning

Bah, I like armour first then weps after armour 2 or so, when I comm, I dedcide ;-P

I dont like JP/HMG rushes for one reason, HA/HMG is far superior, well many reasons really..... thats the main one......

Besides, in all reality when I get basics down I am not going to be a 'HA/MHG or JP?HMG comm" Hopefully Ill be a comm with squads, maybe a foward JP squad with 1 shotty, 1 hmg and a gl, and a 3 person heavy squad with 2 HMG 1 GL... err something like that. I want strats that are better than everyone attack with the same gear.......

i agree that ha/hmg can be more effective then jp's because they outclass in armor and reliablity of survival (if you have 1 gl and welders) so you can easily annihilate 2 hives if you have 6 marines with ha/hmg/welder/gl it can be devistating if your team is reliable and listens
    there shooting at each other
also jp's are EASY TARGETS for oc's in halls and corridors and lerks, i noticed that on ns_lost when my massive army (was massive with lots of upgrades and secured and sentried both hives) but couldnt get around those pesky oc's if they did the lerks were sure to eliminate any attackers left
so im kinda converting to ha rushing

ANYTHING can be awesome if your team listens ;-)......

    Commander round two:
I join a game on bast that already is in progress. I come into play, hop around, see what we need, get no response.... I goto engine hive as my team trys to jump higer than one another at spawn and I make our commander drop a tf and a few turrets. I return and my comm decides he dosent like his job ;-)

I look at what we have and then notice we dont have atmos. We have starting rt and the 2 near engine(that I got...)

My team alerts me that a second hive is going up as I explain my plan: get atmos, then goto feedwater... They decide thats a bad idea... I tell them again..... and again..... The march towards god know where....

Furthermore they keep trying to die. I upgrade JP's HMG's, and lvl 2 weps lvl 1 armour(I took your adive) But they keep dieing... The res is slow, I NEED ATMOS!!!!!! i stop dropping stuff and tell them they are expendable as basic rines(ofcourse they keep bit**ing for JP/HMG when i have 6 res.....) long story short we dont get atmos, we dont win.....

There was only one or two and they went down very quickly, I had a lot of the maps res so they couldn't all just go fade together.....

most impressive Lad. Always good to see new commanders emerging. I see so few now adays it's bloody sad. Remember, all depends on your team of marines. Do what it takes to get them in order. Deny them gear, yell at them. Whateer it takes to get them to Actually follow your orders. Having Veterans helps a lot as they will follow orders and act indepentantly if need be. Don't always drop gear to the ones who win they most...they tend to wander off alone like rambo's and die foolishly. You'll notice the patern. Don't worry about being kicked out of comm chair to much...you'll hesistate to act, and or give in to the constant whining of your marines and get nothing done. Stick with your major plan if you have one but be ready to adapt as the game goes on.

And for the love of god...MAKE SURE YOU HAVE VIOCE COMM. Play, Learn...Adapt

Vober, the reason why you keep losing rts is because you didn't have your marines take mines and place them next to the rts. Thats a VERY important part to keep in mind about being a comm. Mines are your friends (Until they get fades but good comms won't let the aliens even get their second hive up.) and you should never EVER leave your rts un-mined. So next time when you comm again, make sure you get your marines to take some mines to the rt you dropped.
