Defending Marine Base

<div class="IPBDescription">It always comes out to me...</div> ... to defend marine base.

If the commander gives us a waypoint, everyone goes, I would love to go too, but no one stays in base.

*sigh*
*/me thinks: I'll do it again..*

Last times I joined them too, to the waypoint, finding out base is being destroyed.
Am I the only one that can figure out that base needs 2 - 3 marines to defend?

Anyone else has this?

    i enjoy keeping a watch on base, im usually the one that does this when im in a game w/my general commanding. he has me keep watch because he knows im reliable lol.... but anyhow its not a bad thing to be given this position ..... so dont worry about it

    tbh, I dont think base needs to be defended by 2-3 marines. Ok for 1 maybe a second if there's hard pressure on the base but no more imo. If u got 3 marines at base + Commander then there are only 2 marines left to get ressources, aliens and Hives... Not enough.

    A suggestion: RUN FORREST RUN TO THAT WAYPOINT!!! The last marine remaining will perhaps think like you and stay in the base <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Two or three 'rines for main base defense? Pfft, not at all. Try mines along with 1 for base defense.

    Do what the comamnder says. If the commander gives you a waypoint, follow his orders and run to it. If the commander doesn't assign base defenders (by NOT giving them waypoints, or by not confirming over voicecom) and the base gets overrun, it's his fault the team loses.

    Of all the ironies, having marines that die fairly often gives you a de-facto base defense. If someone's always busy spawning, someone's always guarding the base <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> Throw in a few packs of mines (and actually remembering to replace the ones that detonate), and you should be pretty good.

    This is best when combined with a fairly aggressive strategy. Keep the fighting on Kharaa turf, and your base is a much harder place to assault.

    Still, having no marines at all in the spawn is asking for trouble. Don't leave it completely empty for more than a few seconds, because that's all the Kharaa need to sneak a guy in and eat something expensive <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Join a new server or disconnect, change your name, reconnect. Once you have done so leave base, so the comm and team don't have the habit of relying on this anonymous helper = you.

    I much prefer to rambo. Give me the hate. I don't care. I kick @ss <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

    On excellent servers I tend to teamplay more, but sometimes the team and comm are preoccupied somewhere, and although the comm can multitask, I'll pretend to be some random nub just so I can rambo. Ramboing = teh bestest ev4r

    I am always the skulk going through the phasegate directly to the marine spawn so YOU better defend and have fun with me or see mee keeping 3 martines busy for a long time or killine one or more IPs.

    Hahaha

    I wonder if the characters in RTS games like war3 think the same thing <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    at least they behave more intelligent and follow orders.

    hehe, i'd like to see that....but on the subject, i think more ppl should be more willing to guard base or important structures. more and more i see people ordered to defend something and then 5 minutes later, they're across the map doing something else while base gets eaten. <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo--> Mayb i need to find a server where ppl follow orders or join a clan...heh. Although ppl on the condomless server and gtw seem to have uber teamwork -- that i've noticed.

    gah, bad comm loosing the game for the team or not, it's still no fun to loose. If your comm sends EVERYONE to a waypoint, pretend he's a n00b and give him a piece of you mind. The only time the entire marine team is needed is a relocate.......

    I'm usually base defender. All by myself. I can usually fend off 3-4 skulks and/or 1 lerk at once.

    I usually ask for mines and then I place them around buildings. If everyone else leaves the base, i usually stay in there to defend.

    It's boring as hell, especially if skulks doesn't even try to take your base. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
    I mean, what i do? I just sit there and watch those blue sircles (when com upgrades MT)....

    hey, wait a minute, there is a skulk near the base.....nah, he run past....lets wait some more....omg that skulk is coming in.... <!--emo&::asrifle::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/asrifle.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='asrifle.gif'><!--endemo--> ....more waiting <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

    How things have changed in the past, well in the past most commanders made TF + turrets in the marine base (mines were very rare stuff).

    Nowadays, marines almost everytime relocate their base & use mines to defend their structures. Mines are cheaper! <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->. But, someone should give a "how to place mines" manual to some marines.

    Place mines on the floor near:

    a) resource tower(s)
    b) infantry portal(s)
    c) armory
    d) command console

    mine all the incoming vents to your base, so some sneaky skulks dont want to come in but those suicidal skulks still come <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->. (like me). If fades are coming, duh.. dont place/give mines! <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->).

    I dont think that mines are needed around CC. It has a lot of health and aliens usually dont even bother to attack againts it (except in ns_bast).

    All other buildings? Yes absolutely. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    I've played a few enjoyable games where I never set foot outside the base. If the comm keeps you topped up with mines and health you can defend it for the whole game and still rack up a fairly decent score.

    if u place mines u shouldnt leave base alone, good players have no problem with mines, except stepping on them accidently

    Yesterday There was this game on [COFR] server (ns_nancy) where the rines had mined up their entrance (and room infront of it) with like more then 25 mine packs (or maybe more), it was a very massive battle but even with the mine it was stepping in a lion cage for the rines, rines xoudnt get out of their base, after a lot of mine were sweeped by skulks, we finished it as hungry spacemarine addicted skulks <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
