How Do You Find A Ns Game?

I just downloaded this Natural Selection to take a break from DoD, and am wondering....how do you find servers? I have the trial gamespy 3d, and there are no tabs for NS (none that i can find on the web either). I'm refreshing ALL halflife games and this is going to take quite a while. My question is how do you browse for NS servers? Can't wait to try this. Thanks

Well first of all you should get ASE instead of gamespy...

And I think you click on half-life and you get a list...

I use Gamespy for NS - it works pretty nicely. Simply click on the Half-Life tab, then go to the Natural Selection link towards the bottom.

thanks for the welcome. i dont use the arcade, i use just regular gamespy3d. i guess ill try arcade. i joined my first game, no idea whats going on. i think my commander or something got mad at me. then i was an alien and everyone got mad at me again because i picked a gorge or something.

The in-game browser works fine, but one of the shotcuts to NS created by the installer doesn't work (it's either the desktop one or start menu one, I don't know which).

I went to observer to get an idea of things then tried to join marines, hah everyone else was there already. I then tried to join aliens, game said I already knew map cannot join have to wait till end of game. I thought that was fair so waited, one hour later thought something wrong tried to join no go. Went to server listing cannot join looked at description of game said 30 minute game. I was very patient tried for three hours to join by pressing join at intervals, I became so frustrated that I gave up. PLease tell me what went wrong, I so much want to play my first game...HELP please. (SAD so very SAD).

If you have been an observer, you can't join in either team before the round ends.
Or if you are in marine team, then you press F4 (<-- it throws you back in the ready room), after that you can't join in aliens, before the round ends (unless you leave the server and then join back in, ex type "retry" in console).

Iam not sure about that description thing, but it is possible that the one game lasted over three hours. <img src='http://www.natural-selection.org/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'>
And was the server full all the time, when you tryed to join back in? Or did you ever left the server?

IMO, it's better than gamespy <img src='http://www.natural-selection.org/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'>

Thanks Paq for your prompt reply. What happened was :-

1. I didn't know about f4 then, I do now as I went reading more forums faq's lots of reading thanks for sharing that bit though.
2. The server wasn't full 18/24 -22/24.
3. Gamespy server lets you look at description of game by right clicking on name of game and gives you a description of rules, like length of game, friendly fire on/off, etc and that was how I saw game length 30 mins, so I waited.
4. I left game at one stage and couldn't get back in, that included any game listed. I presumed I was somehow still connected to original game, as a new comer I cannot tell you though if this is right.
5. I did retry many times and I had no success.
6. As my original post said I eventually gave up in distress/disgust.
7. I tried again this evening and found out to my horror that there is a time limit to join, I let time elapse due to visitors at door.
Maybe in a post somewhere this should be pointed out to newbies so they don't panic thinking they did majorly wrong. No the first time I tried I was sitting at my computer the whole time. Sorry about length but trying to put as much information in as possible to help those (yourself) who try to help solve problem. Once again thanks for help. Hope to see you in game sometime. Wish/hope/dream/drool. lol

Heh, well it's always good to give too much information than not enough.

I meant about that description thing that does it work in NS? I am not sure about it. I have few times seen a time limit on server. For example: ASE shows that there is 45 minutes limit, but still one round can last over 2 hours. <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'>

You said that you left the game, but couldn't get back in. How did you exatcly left the game? By typing "quit" in console? Are you sure that you didn't minimize the NS? <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'>

Hmm, but i can't help you much with gamespy. I have once tryed that program and....well IT SUCKS.
I downloaded C&C Renegade multiplayer demo, when it was released and i tryed to join in a server with gamespy. It lanched the game, but i never got in the server. Then i downloaded ASE and when i tryed to join, i got in the game immediately. <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'>

the time limit on joining game is not there on most servers i think you were unlucky to choose a server that had a joi game time limit. most servers dont have this.

gamespy sux its that simple.. all seeing eye is a far superior server browser.

as a new player if u do join a game i suggest u dont go commander or the alien gorge as both are critical roles in the game and have a huge impact on the outcome of the game.

unfortunatley if u are new and go gorge or comm u will most probably be shouted at by everyone on ur team plz listen to them and either get out of comm chair or ungorge by going skulk again

And my suggestion to you all is: Dump those server browsers, get on Google and search good servers and add them to your HLSW list... I used gamespy too few months ago.
But after i tryed ASE, there is no way that i will start to use gamespy again <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'>

WOW thanks everyone for the info. I hang my head I will not use gamespy again, I went there at 10.00pm australian est and had a devil of a run around have got ase now will try them shortly, and no I will definitely not go gorge or commander I haven't even played a game yet. I wish to learn to play before I do that. I left by being booted out. I went to ready room went spectate then tried marines said full then tried aliens said knew map wait for end game then it sent me to some grey pannelled window which said in hibernation then it sent me to a green screen with list of servers. Then nothing went right as I said in previous post/s. Hope to see some of you shortly in a game.

if u go spectate instead of joining a team when u leave spectate mode u wont be able to join a team until the next game starts...

this is because u have seen the current game in progress and know stuff that each team is doing therefore u joining a team could unbalance the game

And give as much info as you can.
Your computer specs, connection, etc...

You can always try www.gametiger.net Also search for your friends in games, and specific server names (all web-based, no download required)
