Taken me a while to get around to this.
1. What does abtm stand for?
2. What does ROFL stand for?
3. What does LMAO stand for?
4. The most important: When does it really start to slow down? I get 20fps on average and it dosnt bother me at all. Also, why would 30 fps be better if i cant tell the differance?

2. Rolling on floor laughing
3. Laughing my (butt) off
4. I can tell a difference, so you should be able to as well.
Also, what's the point of this topic. Seems rather off-topic, if you ask me.
and the rest was explained, now go away KTHX
All Blame To Me
that's what your name stands for? <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
the eye precives motion that (i think) 16 Frames Per Second......
but that doesnt mean that it does not effect the game.
build speeds, jetpack fuel and leap damage (?) all depend on FPS, so higher FPS gives you a little bit of an edge
wonder why you can tell the difference between 30 and 100 fps?
personally i can tell the difference between 60 and up to around 80ish. After that it becomes very difficult to disquinsh the difference. The thing is this. Although the human eye can see things at a certain rate, the computer has to display them at their own rate in order to keep up a smooth flow and transitions. Otherwise it is choppy. SO you could simply say, although the human eye is claimed to see only at a certain rate, the computers have to produce the image much faster for it to be un-noticable.
i like 15 fps <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
The eye doesn't actually perceive in "frames per second" but it is acceptable to rate it that way I suppose. Trust me, Catpoker, it is far higher than 16fps. Have a think about the implications if we only got a visual update sixteen times a second!
you can tell the difference between 60 and 80 fps when your monitor's refresh rate is probably 60mhz?
hey Karma, check out my latest fan fic!
I get less than 20 fps when I play NS and it really DOES make a diff because accurately aiming at skulks = almost impossible. Hence why I consider myself more skilled than you all! <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
I hope that you don't mean that you have 80 mili hertz monitor because that would hurt <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
And if you meant mega then I want your monitor <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
But to be serious, I don't think you can consiously see the differens betwene 65 Hz and 80 while looking straight at it. If you're even the least bit sensitiv though your head will start to hurt after a while. My favorit way to fast check the refresh rate is to look at the screen thruw the cornour of my eye. The flickering is easy to see that way.
Yes - I use this technique to determine if my refresh rate will afect my eyes adversely.
The thing is, even if you don't notice, your eyes strain at a low refresh rate

Sure. And thanks for the awnsers all.
the "threshold" where you have a 50/50 chance of picking up the flicker is at 60 Htz! not FPS, HL Fps is not actualy a real measure (so far as I can tell <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->)
so yah, if you can set you moniter to over 60Hz, do so it will probably cause less strain (thus fewer hedaches)
and yah, getting 100 FPS can give you a knowticable diff, though dicerning beteen 100 and 90 is hard, but telling 100 from 60 aint that hard <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
anyways...i never used lol til recent times.

LOL!
Open the console and type /fps_max 100
Then make sure your monitor is either refreshing at 100hz, or you have vysnc switched off.
Concerning the rest of the thread - Most people can discern framerates above 60fps if they can actually get their framerate that high. Note that to actually see the benefits of a 100fps engine framerate, you need a monitor that is refreshing at 100hz. Having a video card draw a scene 100 times a second is pretty worthless when your monitor is only updating its image 60 times a second.
"Smooth" is also relative. Play at 30fps for a significant period of time and you will consider this framerate normal. Play at 100fps for a week and 30fps looks unplayable.
