Whoever said the shotty in CS sucks, doesn't know what they are talking about. If you know what you're doing, the pump is extremely good long range. I have zero problem getting headshots at range, two rounds is enough to kill anyone. I didn't play with NiP, but I played with the likes of W.E.W. and DoP. It's all a matter of experience and practice. A shotgun can be godly in the right hands.

even though I'm usually alien, when I do play marines it's shotguns all the way, but it is hard to watch as a skulk runs up to you, and your brain screams FIRE! he's getting close!, but when you do loose your awesome power (in the correctly aimed and loaded fashion) then most aliens get shredded to well....shreds
I find that shotgunning works alot better when you are soloing, or only have 1 other person with you. More marines in the room means more of your shots are getting blocked by marines, and thats bad. Its hard to kill an alien biting your friend because 50% of your shots are gonna hit your friend instead of the skulk.
Since forever. Kitsune did some tests and it goes for all weapons. The more ammo your marine carries with him (total, not in the gun), the slower your movement speed is. Getting about half ammo with you as a HMG definitely improves speed, but we're not talking from GL laden HA marine to jetpacking knife-only marine in terms of speed. A HMG marine with 400 rounds will always be slow as heck, and a 150 ammo HMG marine will be quite slow, but able to overtake his burdened pal on a "race you to the hive!" dare.
Do a search in general on Kitsune as author, you'll end up with some interesting information.
was in a game that there was at least 2 redemp fades (bleh cheap.......free res for 'death', BAH)
took an freakin HOUR to convince the com to give me and 1 other guy a shotty........ he finally did though
lets just say redemp didn't work for the poor **** when they said hello to Mr. Shotty
Im a dedicated alien player, and there is nothing worse than running into a group of folk with shottys, EVILbugger things. you cant get close even at long range if ther eare a few of you with shottys it can provide significant firepower , im just glad folk dont use them much
I love Shotfun, esp in heavy, but I find not many marine coms give out shotguns to a base defender in early game, which is a shame. I played one game where the Marine DID drop me a shotgun early game when I was his base defender, after I got over 20 skulk kills with LMG alone, he said "here, try this on for size, mate." and dropped a shotgun right on me, which I promply loaded up on ammo for. The next time a skulk came through those double doors in eclipse spawn, The goo that ensued was truely beautiful.
Shotguns are an amazing marine melee weapon. Even a carapaced skulk, level three carapace, will be splattered to goo with a level 1 or 2 shotgun. Just let that little skulk rush up to you, thinking he'll get a yummy bite o' marine, then give him a taste of your lead.
Great guide. The only problem is actually getting a commander to drop anything: it's a rare occurence that they give you an HMG, let alone a shotty. B*******
Another advantage Ive found with the shotgun, is more a disadvantage with the machine guns. With LMG or HMG, the muzzle flash is slightly disorientating. Against some skulks, that isnt a problem, but against good players after a 10 round burst you cant see them, then they drop down from the ceiling and eat you, head first. With the shotgun however, if you see a skulk coming towards you you know that its going down. You can maintain visual contact all the way through till its final leap, and when it does your crosshairs are right over it, and the end of the story writes itself
But yeah, it is a shame that commanders hardly ever drop them (at least in pub games). Most games Ive played the only weapons that ever come about are the HMGs for the final attack. Although probably not the best idea for a group or for mass use, a shotgun allows an early base/outpost defender to do the work of 3 people. But then again, Ive always enjoyed seeing not so much the whites of their eyes as their tonsils before pulling the trigger
Shotty is the only thing I ask for aside from a Gren. Launcher occasionally....
JP combined and holy **** man your basically a lerk. If you get used to flying over an enemy, blasting a shot right in their head as you fly over, then you can do the same exact thing as a lerk. Fly over a marine and bite their head off in flight. It's so funny flying straight over a marine and biting their head off before they can even fire at you.
Complete pride and bragging rights when you destroy 2 hives by yourself with one ...... believe me or not, I DID have evidence. I uber kick **** with lerks. My most feared enemy is the shotgunner. If he's smart all he got to do is is camp aa corner or door real close and shoot when the lerk flies around corner. If the marines gets a good hit the lerk should be almost entirely dead but JUST NOT quite. But then its uber hard to dodge every peice of scrapnel while running away as a lerk so if the rine can get taht first shot off the lerk is good as dead. Unless of course the lerk killed him first. Theres just no running.

I've converted to shotguns after downing both a fade and an onos in one session (without dying inbetween) using a shottie. And a pistol for those mid-long range encounters. It supresses skulks fairly well if you don't kill them, and if they get close then out comes Mr Shottie and
Someone decided to rush me as Fade when I had a Shottie(when I was still a newbie). I managed to sqeeze of two shots before he slashed me to death. He then msged and said that he would've died on the next shot. Hail the shotguns!!!!!!
I recently noticed an increase in JP shotgunners , they're effective in otherwise non - JP friendly maps , can spawnkill and destroy the hive simultaneously. JP shotgun is the fast way of humiliating a dominated ennemy - HA sieging being the longer one.
i too would like to know more details concerning faster movement speed due to less ammo ie does this apply to all weapons, what are the exact bonuses and recommendations for each gun. where did we discover this information. many thanks.
Its muzzle flash isn't that bad on the shotty. I've actually come to like it and may start requesting or handing some out in some games now. Eclipse I think it would work on. Tight coordiors.

No, the heavy armor slows you down a bunch.
offensive HA Shotgunner: slow, deadly, though
HA Shotgunner is to be used when getting trouble from multiple aliens.
defensive LA Shotgunner: dodgy, weak
defensive HA Shotgunner: slow, though
if attacked by skilled players, a LA cant dodge very well anyway. HA doesn't need too.
