i've got a really anoiyng problem... when i create a server, there is a instance of the menu GUI on the console window...

It's not the end of the world but its almost the end of my temper...

You could run hlds and the client on the machine instead though.
REMOVE the -console parameter, and replace it with -dev.

To expand on this, and summarize:
Whe running a listen server, if you start HL with the -console parameter, you may have the "main menu" superimposed over the top-left corner of your game display. If you exit to the menu using ESC, then resume the game, it goes away.
This bug occurs with both NVidia and ATI cards. It is triggered by "-console". Removing that parameter from your command line solves the problem. Adding -dev skips the intros, just like -console does.
