.... that you should be watching
The editorial pieces of the article are not very well done, but the images, info, and developer responses are quite nifty. Let's you know that you don't need to buy whatever iD and Epic are dishing out at the moment...

Alot of those look pretty good. The one that really interested me was the very first one, Pain Killer.

    PainKiller looks interesting.

FireStarter looks GREAT. Like SS2 all over again, only slightly more actiony.

Stalker looks REALLY interesting... Really REALLY interesting...

    IronStorm looks boring.

Purge looks cool too. But it'll be hard to pull off correctly. Magic against technology is hard to do (Arcanum supposedly pulled it off, but I got bored with that pretty fast...)

Chrome looks ok. I doubt they'll pull what they're trying for, but they'll prolly make an ok game anywho.

    Y-Project looks stupid.

The rest look.. Eh.. *shrug* Not that great.

You don't like IronStorm? That was my favorite, albeit pretty much from a plot perspective. I am fascinated by alternate history stories. I think I own every book that Harry Turtledove has ever written.

If I was making a singleplayer mod (i.e. if I was more than a PR lackey and had some actual coding, mapping, and artistic talents), I would definitely want to make a game where the backstory was some interuption of past earth history, with the resulting game taking place years later. It allows you to go hogwild with your imagination.

I think IS looks pretty nifty too, and the 'Thiefy' aspect where it's not all run and gun appeals to me. Their short little trailer is pretty sweet, and the screenshots worked for me.

Wow.. Thanks MonsE, didn't know about most of these. I agree, IronStorm sounds interesting, though the WWI/WWII/Vietnam mixture doesn't appeal to me that much. Never cared much for "old" wars. (Like I always say: Contemporary or futuristic is the way to go.)

PainKiller sounds a little too action-oriented for my sake. They don't even have crouching because it slows down the gameplay too much, geez.. Does have some unique features though, by the sound of it, so it might be worth keeping an eye on.

I've already heard about FireStarter. Trapped inside the mind of a VR machine gone havoc - makes me think of System Shock and SHODAN, which is a good thing. Might be a good combination of horror and action.

So far (still on page one), STALKER: Oblivion Lost is the one that interests me the most. Sounds like a good plot - radiation and freaky mutated things are always good - and the weapon models in the screenshots have me salivating on my keyboard.

Purge sounds good in theory, class-based FPS/RPG set in the 22nd century. Screenshots don't look too cool, but who knows how early (or late) in development they are.

Moving on... Chrome. Sounds good. Y-Project does not.. Chaser is somewhat interesting, aside from sounding like a rip-off of the Jackie Chan movie 'Amnesia'. And I'm always curious about in-house engines. Multiplayer modes for both realistic damage and "Quake-style" damage is a plus, that way the multiplayer portion might draw a larger crowd. Smart move.

Ah, now we're talkin' - Strident. I loved Oni, and Strident seems to be taking the same concept and improving on it.

And, finally, Psychotoxic. Every show needs a freak, huh? An udder-gun? Tempting as it sounds, I think I'll pass on that one

Yep, STALKER and Strident are two games I'll watch out for from now on. Thanks again

Interfector: I think the article writer was aiming more for 'indie' games, as opposed to DeusEx2. Most of them don't even have publishers, and are using homemade engines.

Great responses, Daywanderer. I definitely agree about painkiller - they said it was something like 2 times faster than Quake1 DM. I'm getting a bit old for that sort of frantic gameplay.

Firestarter definitely is the best looking of all of them. Really, really cool engine. I dig that reddish tint in most of the shots - subtle.

I think Strident is actually coming to xbox also, but I may be confused. It happens.

Stalker looks great. I had an idea similar to this a while ago but I thought it would never be made (too complicated) then along comes this game, hurruh!!!!

IronStorm looks great too. I loved Operation-Flashpoint and this seems like it, but with a better engine. Indoor areas with walls that you can't run through = w00t.

Chromes idea is cool, I just hope it works out well. Now, how am I going to afford all these, nevermind that my computer can't run any of them

Stalker and Firestarter seem to use the same engine, pretty impressive polygon counts but the lighting is pretty bad, and they dont have much contrast. I guess Im looking forward to Strident the most, then Stalker and the Y project (although I kinda doubt Ill buy any of these games). Oh and this light texture seems to get around a lot, Im pretty sure Ive used it in my first ns mapping attempts.

We had Iron Storm ads plastered all over the Gore CD case and manual. I think DreamCatcher is really trying to push this one.

Stupid Editorial. NS is not in it. I know it's a mod, but it will probably bring more to the FPS/RTS style games then any of those games..

The reason why IronStorm (I keep trying to type IonStorm) doesn't look interesting is its old. Contemporary or futuristic, like Daywanderer said... That's the way to go.

Yes! Strident: TSF made the list!

    That = win.

I've been watching the game for some time now. If anyone else is interested in it as well.... I've got a lot more content than they show on that site.
