2 Hive Lockdowns

Get out of the habit
It's become common among more inexperienced players to go for a solid two hive lockdown before ending the game. This has two drawbacks:

1) It sucks to be Kharaa

2) It will be useless in 1.1

If you want to get ready for 1.1 you should really start looking at practising your hive killing skills. In a recent playtest we saw no less than 5 hives built and destroyed. Locking down one hive achieves nothing but denial of hive 2 and hive 3 dependant abilities. It will no longer mean you do not have to face Fades or Onos.

In fact, the longer the game goes on, the more marines will see the inside of an Onos's belly.

So whilst it's fun to win, it's much better to do it in style, especially if that style will benefit you come 1.1.

Killing with style is what it's all about.

    Well......

Who uses two hive lockdowns anyway?

I find that its way more fun to go the Resource way and battle fades with fully uppgraded marines instead of sealing two hives...

Too bad 1.1 isn't out, so I see no reason for the inexperienced players to change strategy, since their new strategy might as well not work in 1.1.

well i like the build up...

i actually am not to keen on the big end game mash up with fades and onos etc.. all the HA and HMG's...

i like the initial stages when i go out with 1 or 2 others and get all the res nodes and generally scout things out.. that is how i would prefer to play it all the time if only LMG would down an ONOS in 1 round

I'd love to fight fades and onoses without acid rocket, umbra and spores. Spores are actually the lamest thing is NS. With lvl3 hmg, or even lmg, there is no problem.

I'd love to see a marine team keep a 2 hive lockdown on caged

I don't get why people do them anyway. Faster to do some type of tech or rush.

When his marines are crappy, the only real way a comm can win is by locking down 2 hives. Personally, I'd rather lose than play out the 2 long painful hours of pointlessness a 2 hive lockdown provides. Besides, if the aliens are at all organized, they should be easily able to take back 1 hive because the marines will have no upgrades at all by the time they get carapace.

yea but if each hive has 8 sentrys or so, it wont matter how many upgraded skulks there are...............

I'd like to see you pay for 8 sentries in each hive and upgrades for your marines in the first 2 minutes of the game. Cause those skulks sure as hell will be upgraded by then.

I think in 1.1 I'll start using Chopper Dave's strategy of turreting and placing seiges in key places in the game where you can seige most of the map's res nodes. This way aliens...wait...gorges cna just suck res...crap

    Okay...back to square one.

Relocate to pumping station, weld to via, boom u win.

it's sometimes dangerous not to go for a 2hive lockdown. when the aliens get Fades and start rushing your base, then u better not have inexperienced players on your team.
  • KazyrasKazyras Join Date: 2002-11-23 Member: 9722Members
On the other hand, it's complete suicide to attempt locking down 2 hives when the aliens are any good, especially if it involves relocating.
  • GeronimoGeronimo Join Date: 2002-12-18 Member: 11056Members
I think skulks have all gotten so good that locking down a hive is close to impossible unless its on a18/18+ map, when marines get tons of res....
  • ravenravenravenraven Join Date: 2003-04-20 Member: 15676Members
it's not all that impossible, if u have a pg built as soon as u take a hive. then u can have backup phase thru the gate and hold position while tf gets builts. but with all the ammo-humpers around, these days ........

Spores will probably be the 1 hive lerk ability... You'll face them since the beginning of the game.
