    with a 56K connection it will take you ages to download anything more than 1MB.

    Advice: get ADSL <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    I know even worse : my first internet connection was 28.8K. So I know what it is to have a slow connection...

    nobody beats me... 14.4kb/s was my first <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    But to answer the question... No one else but a Dev Playetester or a Vet knows..

    Not everyone can get DSL, i pay more for 56k than most people do for DSL, depends on where you live..

    Id also be interested in the download size if someone can comment please.

    Got you on that one, Silent. 300bps modem. With a rotary dial on the front. It's about the size of a small VCR, and was used on an old Apple ][ clone.

    I guess it will be more than 100MB. NS 1.0 was 90.7 MB, and in 1.1 there will be new maps, etc...

    Size depends on how much new animations, art, sounds, maps, etc. are included. I don't think any playtester could possibly know this (at least I can't). We'll have to wait for a better answer from a dev.

    In the meantime, placing bets on what it'll be is probably prohibited for minors in all states except Nevada. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

    It would be more than 100 mb if it was a completer reinstall, but most of the files you need are already there. Let's see, I would guess somewhere around 50+.

    Shouldn't be too far from 1.0s size.
  • GoldenShadowGoldenShadow Join Date: 2002-04-21 Member: 483Members
    I guess the question is how big is the full installer, and how big is the 1.04>1.1 patch
  • TalesinTalesin Our own little well of hate Join Date: 2002-11-08 Member: 7710NS1 Playtester, Forum Moderators
    Better question is if there will BE a patch, or just a full version. With the couple of difficulties involved with the v1.0 release, I'd lean toward just having a full-installer. Lot less work that way as well.

    Flayra is currently trying to keep it as small as possible, which including all the new maps is quite a feat.

    In total, the download will be around 100MB for the full 1.1 client. No news on a 1.0->1.1 Patch.

    I can get DSL in my area, but i can't afford it right now, so i'm stuck with 56K for a while. Well, hopefully the full instal won't be over 150Megs, because i'll have to download it over night and a little into the mornin'.

    /me pats his 6Mb/second transfer rate, and worries about NS taking too long.

    Hmm. BitTorrent would help. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> CERTAINLY on opening day. FilePlanet is, as far as I'm concerned, not a file portal, but a portal to the plane of hot air and sulferous odors known to mortals as heck, where some are darned into mild discomfort for all or some portion of eternity.

    Yeah, Bit Torrent seems pretty powerful. Now if only more websites decided to support this wonderful little program.

    well the apple2 had a whopping 0.007 gigahertz processor, didnt it?

    i was lucky enough that although i had PC's of that age, i didnt learn of modems until a friend of mine was in a chatroom at 14.4k i didnt understand talking to those names on the screen and kepy playing digger or lords of conquest.

    on-topic. 100 MB sounds right, only ten more than 1.0 was.

    Heh... 3 months ago... I had to work on a person's system.. and it was a moddest 75 mhz system with 64 meg ram. and 3 gig Hd...... but I needed drivers... so I started the modem up, and almost committed suicide on the spot.... 28 baud modem!! ARGH!!! IT was hell... the worst 6 hours of my life *downloading a 11k file non the less*

    Anyhow... I'll admit I am spoiled.. nice ADSL... PRETY ADSL.... and I must agree.... 3 - 4 gigs wouldn't stop me from downloading NS...... Hell... LIVE FADES wouldn't stop me.... *as long as I had a real IP... if not, I'd just die a miserable death... as the kharaa invade earth.....*

    But yeah.. let's bring on the 1.1 downloadage!! *And... I'd be willing to burn 1.1 onto CD for anyone who had 56k and can't downloaded b/c of time.... just e-mail me.. and we'll work things out.... (macguyvok@myrealbox.com)...just keep the # of requests reasonable.... and I might ask like $2 to pay for CD-r's or something like that.. depends on current funds... hehe

    And this was SOTA at the time.
