<div class="IPBDescription">Are they finally coming to 1.1?</div> I'm really looking forward for 1.1 and I'm wondering if say_team tags are finally implemented?
I mean tags like %l which you can insert into your say_team messages and which gets replaced with some data, like your current location, current health, ammo or armos status etc. Sounds cool? Listen to these examples:
%l gets replaced with your current location in the map.
%a gets replaced with your current ammo count.
%s gets replaced with your current health and armor level
%e gets replaced with number of enemies nearby
%f gets replaced with number of friendlies nearby
bind [some key] say_team I'm under attack at %l (%e enemies, %f friendly nearby)!
bind [some key] say_team Need backup at %l
bind [some key] say_team Roger that, getting there from %l
bind [some key] say_team Free res nozzle at %l
bind [some key] say_team Area secured at %l (%f friendly nearby)
bind [some key] say_team Need ammo to %l (current: %a - %s)
Everybody does not have voicecomm and the others might not want to use it. I'd found this type of message bindings wery usefull and I'm
really hoping that we can see them in 1.1! The say_team messages which are written by commander could also be highlighed in some way
(like in different color or something) What do you think?

Gee, I wonder if there's an alien hiding in this room... /say_team There are %e aliens nearby!
As for %f, it might catch that guy hiding on the other side of the wall, for example... Dunno, can't think this late at night, but I see a lot of problems...
The others are good though... I, personally, wouldn't use them, but I can see how they'd be useful.
EDIT: Bleh, mixing up numbers... Shouldn't post at 3am...
RE-EDIT: Did I say numbers? I meant letters.... BLAH!
say_team "Could someone please weld me, currently at %s"
or
say_team "I need a medpack, stant, currently at %s"
At least %l (your current location) tag would be extremly usefull

all problems solved.
all problems solved. <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->
No. Mic doesn't solve all problems. Mic is extremly good as a commander tool. It can be easily used to explain complex tactics to troops, and to things like "when entering the room you take the left side" and so on.
But when you are in the middle of the battle, skulks everywhere and so on, It isn't easy to calm enough down to speak clearly to the mic and ask for help. You just usually shout something like "AFUFF**CK. NEED AARGS. HELP!! HER!! FFDSA" or something.
But if you have a pre-binded message to a key which says "say_team Need help at %l ASAP" which translates automaticly to "Need help at Messhall ASAP!" there is no problems. It can easily be readed by everybody, you don't have to ask to mic "what did you just say, I didn't get a single word!" while you are just being eaten by few skulks.. Not good.
Do not underestimate the power of pre-binded say_team messages. They are always powerfull in FPS games. They don't replace the voicecomm and mic, but they give a significant help in the combat.
This commands are really useful because you just need to click a key and that's it . A lot of people have difficulty speaking english in a mic , me included , I'm starting to use it though . On the other hand , some places in the maps are sometimes difficult to remember , although it's displayed on the bottom on the screen , it is faster using a key than using the mic to tell a place which name is composed by 3 words.
Just my 2 cents.
I think they really need to put this in NS. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
I'm finnish, my english grade is 10 (the best if you American's can't understand <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> ), but if I start talking english well some people who have english as their national language might not understand me so well.
I've listened to some brit's in Puerto Rico while I was on vacation, and for christ's sake I believe finnish people talk better english that they do <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
Anyway, it's a lot easier to just press a key instead of mumbling so that no one understands what your saying. Which would be better, 5 people screaming at you "WTH you saying can't understand a word!", and the rest are asking me to shut up <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
Anyway, I have turned mic usage off because of it being abused anyway.
But %e could make cloaking less useful and thus ruining the game.
just my thoughts... <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->
No matter how well you and your teammates knows the map, it doesn't help when you and you teammates aren't in the same place when two skulks is leaping towards you. You don't have the time to write your location to messagemode2.
Mic would work, but It's A LOT faster to just press one key on your keyboard (takes around 0.2sec) than using voicecomm
(which also means that you'll have to press the voicecomm trigger all the time when you are speaking)
As the others also said, tag like %e which would tell the number of nearby enemies could easily be abused and I don't anymore recommend that there should be %e. But the other tags (the %l, your current location as the most important) would bring wery much additional potential for the teamplay in general.

%l = location
%a = armor
%h = health
%r = resources (when alien)
%i = player you last looked at
i play almost only on voogru because of these things. They're great for me, since i don't have a mic, and since i don't understand voicecomm because of either my bad sound card or the other players' bad mics. And i really do suspect the latter, nomatter how bad my soundcard is. so, long live these tags, or whatever you call them.
All i have to do is press F3 and the team sees my statusreport <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
bind "F3" "say_team [ STATUS | Health: %h - Armor: %a - Resources: %r - Location: %l ]"
simple as that <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
mics dont solve all problems, i have voicerecord bound to q and pressing the mousewheel so that i can access it when busy with either hand, but still soemtims when doing evasive maneuvers in a skulk battle i simply cannot concentrate on speaking.
let alone the real-world factor of me not being able to shout into a mic when its 1 am and the house is asleep and im playing with headphones.

Voogru didn't invent this system. I think that QuakeWorld proxies did this for the first time, nearly a decade ago! They did great job to implement it as a custom, server-side module, but it's not the same. It must be available for everyone, regardeless of the server <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
<span style='color:orange'>(TEAM)Kalias [Reactor Room]<span style='color:red'>:</span></span> <span style='color:white'>Need backup!</span>
Gives easy and quick access to it for people who don't wish to use comm scripts, then allow the %a and %h tags to be scripted, they are much more rarely needed than locations.

You beat me too it <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
This is what the plugin has:
%h = Health.
%a = Armor.
%r = Resources.
%l = Location.
My server has these added:
%i = Last player name you looked at.
%e = Number of enemies in sight. (NOTICE, IN SIGHT, you cannot use this as a "semi-wallh4x")
%f = Number of friendlies in sight.
%d = Last player name that killed you.
%k = Last player name you killed.
%c = Current player class.

I dont see how it can be exploited, since it only works for players you can auctually see.

When I first asked for %e, I ment that it would show up only aliens which you see, are trying to attack you and are NOT hiding anywhere.
It would be the "panic button": "help me, I have %e aliens attacking me at %l!"
As I'm an old QW veteran, tag like %e was used when you were bunnyhopping and rocketjumping around the room/hallway at the same time
when you tried to kill your enemies. There were no hiding in QW, just bunnyhopping, rocket jumping and running and killing for your life.
NS is bit different in this and if there will be such %e tag, it must be really sure that it can't be exploitable. What if a kharaa is hiding on the pipes somewhere and you see only a very small part of it (lets say, eg. a leg). And even the best player can't see everything what's on the screen, so there is the difference.
- jtm
but trust me... %e will be exploitet... no way it wouldn't... u could simply echo %e all the time u press a key even if u don't see anything....
but it would be really nice if we'd get some info about 1.1 (i'd love to script another useful script-package for 1.1)
so flayra... <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

What about players who are cloaked? Aliens hiding behind towers or buildings? Aliens hid away in dark corners?
examples:
"help at maint" , very short to write but not many know what these mean..
or "goto mess".
"inc to via"
"gorge to silo"
etc etc.
Maybe someone should write an thread about all the combinations that there is. Some of the locations like "maintance" , theres 2 maps which both have "maintance" -word in the location name, that's the most confusing thing for some people. Just dont bother typing the whole location, just shorten it.
Its still fast to write these, if your a fast typer.

This is the only thing needed.
From there on you can make NameHere[Location] (which are auto) just say "Need backup here!"
That's all we need and seems simple enough to put in (to me).
As for ammo/weapon/health/whatnot, its a bit redundant I think...too much details which dont really serve a purpose.
Only the comm has any REAL use for such info and he usually knows which marine has what.
Plus you can see if a marine has a HMG or not, what use would a marine halfway across the map have with the knowledge one of his buddies has an HMG.
