Destroy Their Xxx Building!

No building, no upgrades?
Will destroying a building rid the marines of their upgrades like it does with the aliens finally? Therefore, if I kill their armory that was used to upgrade weapons will they lose their weapon upgrades (+dmg)? If I destroy their observ, will it make MT go away? Currently I think it's a tad misbalanced that destroying an alien structure (or all of one type of an alien structure) will totally rid the aliens of that capability and they must spend res to re-upgrade. Why not the same thing for marines? It would mean that they *gasp* actually have to spend a bit of res protecting their interests as opposed to the open base structure that is most common in 1.1 They don't care if they lose a structure or two because they've already got the upgrades from it.

So what about it? It's kinda like losing your hard drive data due to an earthquake or something...except the earthquake could be an Onos

Yes, it states that in the 1.1 changelog. The marines get it back if the building is rebuilt, however.

I think that currently, if a structure is destroyed the upgrade is lost, but when it is rebuilt the upgrade returns immediately. I could be wrong, but I think that is how it works.

currently as far as I understand it in 1.1 when you lose a building you lose the upgrades until you rebuild another building of that type. So you only lose them temporarily. It has been stated a couple times so I am only repeating what has been said before. I believe it's in one or more of the change lists for each version.

I think that the upgrades should be lost permanently, but to compensate the health of the buildings should be higher.

its a cool change, but based on the fact that marines can build buildings very quickly, it's not too big of a deal.

I think it makes perfect sense if you take out their X building they lose their X ability, and do no get it back until they upgrade their X building to full working operational level X armor/dmg etc

I too, see it as a possible thing for testers to try and get Flayra to do, and see how it works if marines have to build up a whole new lab or armory INCLUDING all upgrades lost. I think it would prove to be a good strategical element in the game and would be at least interesting to try out for a couple games. Why not?

for the sake of gameplay it's best if the marine only lose the upgrade til they rebuild the structure otherwise you could possibly lose 215 res on just a fully upgraded armslab, not to mention all the time it takes to upgrade.

and that is a lot of time ladies and gentlemen

in the order of 10mins no?

    ouch.

I think it sounds good enough just to cost them 45res, a builder, and a moment of the comm's time before they can stop being 0.0 pawns

remember how easy marines are to kill at the game's onset? 2 bites? ah ha ha HAA !

Perhaps a partial mix of the two? Arms Labs lose the upgrades until another is built. Observatories lose everything, MT going down until it's re-researched at a new Obs. Which would lead Marine teams to build a pair of them, and upgrade both so as not to have interrupted MT if a suicide-rush is successful. Building an Obs and upgrading MT is significantly less expensive than an Arms Lab.

Alternately, perhaps MT uses up Obs energy? Keeps the level at a static point (possibly zero) so THAT Obs can't be used for DB, Sensor Sweeps, and whatnot. Dedicated Observatories. If not individual MT upgrades in this scenario, research it once and allow the Comm to turn it on/off at a given time.. turning it on drains the Obs energy to zero, and keeps it there (to avoid multipurpose Obs, with a one or two-shot DB capability). Just say that the Nanos have reconfigured each Obs for its particular use.. MT-Obs would be far more sensitive on the receiving end, while the DB/Scan Obs would have far boosted transmitting power.

All of this is based on the v1.0x Marine excess of RP though. If the v1.1 res system works in-balance, then it would be less neccessary.

I can see both sides to it, but loosing the upgrades completely would make the comm have to take that into account when securing places and when recycling for res.

For something like the arms lab, you'd probably want to increase the hp on it whenever armor has been researched so that if it is attacked at level 3, marines will have more of a chance to save it, considering the time and resources put into it.
