A pretty cool mod

<div class="IPBDescription">Talk about "total conversion"</div>I was looking at some MODs and noticed a really good one. Almost like AirHl but this one is a bit better looking. It's called PolyFighter CombatVelocity. It is a Flying/Shooting type MOD. I can't explain it better so here's a pic:

<img src="http://www.modnation.com/polyfighter/media/pfshot06.JPG" border="0">

My thoughts are it will be a big hit. If you've been to a previous MOD expo you might have already seen this. Well you must be skipping this and looking for the link. Here it is:

    Yeah, PF looks awesome.  We were drooling over it a few months back.  Last we heard, randomnine was working on redoing the engine to clean it up.

    Do you know if this will be mainly controlled by the mouse? Or will it be all keyboard(by default)?

    Dunno.  Like I said, it's sorta on hold for now.  In order to charge for it, though, you'd have to strike a deal with Valve.

    On the topic of controls.  As I understood it, you could use your keyboard and mouse, or a joystick.  It also required open_gl, as it was a totally new engine built on top of the HL engine.

    Comprox and I were both beta testers for that (Comp because he whipped up thjat website for them in a flurry one day, and me because I know Mr.Blonde from years ago). It was mucho fun.

    R9 and Mr. B are in the middle of redoing that thing from teh ground up. We'll see what things they come up with. It was wicked fun to play for sure - I wish they'd released the old version 1 as a freebie for people.

    Yah, randomnine has a site somewhere (check #randomnine you IRC bums) the link is at that channel, but I cannot check it right now. R9 is redoing the whole code because he said the old code was messy and disorganized. It is taking a little longer now, as he is in college, but he is slowly working his way through it.

    Your welcome. You know Relic25 brought me on to Natural-Selection. One day I was looking for some of his maps and found his site. I ironically saw the update he made a day after he made it. After that I fell in love with NS.

    hmmm, well a lot of total conversion mods dont cost money, take CS for one . . . (bad example coz its crap, but you get the picture)

  • MonsieurEvilMonsieurEvil Join Date: 2002-01-22 Member: 4Members, Retired Developer, NS1 Playtester, Contributor
    Well, only a very silly person or a 56k user would ever pay money for CS. It's not required that you pay a cent to play it. Same for Chemical Existence, HL Wanted, TFC, Richochet, Gunman Project, or any other mod that Valve officially supported.

    I explained it to my (non gameplaying) fiance one time, and she just couldn't figure out why someone with broadband would pay for CS, or other mods.

    Then she told me to go do the dishes.

    Well I can't think of anyone with broadband that has CS-Retail but a lot of the ppl with pings >100 tend to have it. I my self am totaly an LPB, DSL, we've actuly got 3 computer running through it via a router and i get sweet pings to anywhere in BC Alberta Washington state and other areas of similar distance. (I'm in BC and starting to stray off topic, someone shot me  <!--emo&:p--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'><!--endemo--> )

    I've known about Polyfigher for a very long time, and I've known randomnine for a very long time. I've known randomnine for about 2 years know, back when he was still working on Canned Tuna. I still hang out in #randomnine all the time, I talk to him alot as well. Occasionaly me and a couple other guys in #randomnine will play a game of canned tuna or turbo (the snark racing one he did a while back).

    well, as Mose has already said, they dont force you to buy CS retail, therefore you dont have to pay money for it proving my point. A lot of mods could easily be classified as TCs, as long as they change most of the content from HL, not just tweak HLDM weapons or something.
