It *could* be that as a skulk, you run through some freestanding ladders (I believe the skulk ignores the ladder texture as it can run on walls, which means that as lazy mappers would sometimes only place ladder textures at freestanding ladders, there's no poly the skulk can climb on). Then again, I may be totally wrong.
it is either: when skulks sometimes can't run up ladders (the ones at generator are a good example) or marines who are on them, are often very very tough to kill!
There's also a way of climbing up ladders twice as fast due to a HL physics engine quirk, similar to bunnyhopping, which I havent seen in NS because there don't tend to be many ladders about. This could be referred to as a ladder bug.

I've seen two different ladder bugs, both involving skulks. First is the climbing one, where occasionally (seemingly randomly) skulks have a very hard time going up ladders for some bizarre reason. It's like very, very bad lag but only on ladders. The other one is more of a hitbox bug, where marines climbing ladders are very difficult to bite.

Same for me really, 2 bugs:
1) marines are near on impossible to kill as a skulk on some ladders, i suppose it's something to do with the vent/hitbox bug
2) Some ladders the skulk just passes through (Maint hive is a good example of this), and some ladders the skulk seems to treat each rung as a new level, so it cant really run up it. But other ladders are really easy to go up, just like a wall. I'd guess that this one is a mapping issue
this doest seem to happen to other people, but when i walk upto a ladder, i just kinda shake, and cant go up it. The only way i can get a up a ladder is to do a jump crouch onto the first rung, then go up normaly, this happens to me 100% of the time
I hadn't really noticed that marines have trouble with ladders too as I play aliens most of the time and usually jump at ladders anyway to give me a head start on climbing it (crouching while climbing makes you silent too, use it. Works well in CS).
I have found problem trying to bite a marine from the bottom as i go up when i am a skulk. When attacking at the feet on a ladder the marine is almost impossible to kill. From the head, its much easier to kill.
I have also found problems while going up a ladder as a skulk. It is not very smooth and kinda seems there was an obstruction in the ladder. IMO, it is negligible. Even though, there are many picky people out there that are easily annoyed by this....

I actually have the same problem too. It seemed to start happening after I put my fpsmax upto 100 so I could get my full fps. Sound plays but I don't go up. The only way to get around this is if I take the ladder at a 45 degree angle and strafe up the ladder. Then I can climb I've learned to deal with it. I can go down ladders fine though. Maybe it is a bug... to the troubleshooting forum I go!

The weird thing is, none of the 3 described ladder problems happen consistently- sometimes I experience none of the problems, sometimes I see all of them. My suspicion is that these ladder problems are caused by entity problems associated with a round restarting on the same map. However, it could be something else.

yeah i have this problem alot. sometimes can climb a ladder sometimes not. and it's not just skulks, i've had many deaths trying to get away from marines but not being able to climb just made me a sitting duck. also as a skulk it happens when i'm climbing a wall nowhere near a ladder.
the ladders in the maintinance hive could ealisy be fixed by placing clip brushes behind the ladder entity or making the ladder texture a solid instead of imaginary.... i think the skulk ignored the ladder entity which is an invisible brush that defines a ladder in hl... i don't see why kfs could not put a wall right behind the ladder.........................................................
