Messed Up Screen

TeradocTeradoc Join Date: 2002-11-07 Member: 7665Members
Ok, recently I got a new computer, and had to go through the joy of Fileplanets 2 hour wait line for another long wait, to reinstall it on my new computer.

But now when I exit the main game, I went to change one control, I hit "resume game" and it made a messed up looking screen, it took the screen I was just looking at (Resume game, Quickstart, Inter....) and like put it on a 1000xsomething resolution and popped in in the upper left corner, and occupied over 1/2 the screen, then I could also see the old screen on my 800-600 in behind it fill up a L shape backwards behind it, and filling up what the miniscreen didn't.

So I exited that game, and from then on every game I tried to join, the same thing happened. Now look at the fear ful photoshoped try at making what it looked like, I can't seem to figure out where it put my print screen...
Where it seems things are cut off, is where the screens changed...

Uh, anyone understand this? Or can help? Cause its annoying when you can't join any games cause this happens

it isn't a fault of natural selection. its a problem with halflife

happens in almost all mods to my knowledge, and i doubt there is a lot you can do about it, but i'm open to corrction

Yo dude, do the "Microsoft": Deinstall - reinstall. And try the Tech Support forum, they're way smarter than we are.

    1) Try different resolutions

    2) Install the newest detonators if you are using NVidia's card

    3) Use the fps fix to get yer fps to 85

I don't know about the step 3, but all my menus were screwed up before i did that. :O

im not 100% sure what you mean but i think i do.

whenever i make my own lan game, the game will go to console to show thats its loading the game. overlapping the top left corner of the screen is a smaller version of the menus where you create game etc. my resolution in game is 1280x960, and the menus always use 640x480 for everybody. so i get this 640x480 picture of a menu screen overlapping my 1280x960 console/in-game.

the only fix i know of is to hit escape after the game full loads and im in the ready room. once back in the menus, hit resume game and it fixes itself. just an inconvienience really =\
this is a halflife engine bug, not ns, like shanks said.

i dont know if printscreen works in halflife or not. would be a better idea to just bind a key to take a screenshot.
here is my bind: bind "F12" "snapshot"
the screenshots are then placed in the halflife folder, and theyre named after what map you were playing on. "ns_nothing01.bmp", something like that.

I get this when I create a LAN game, and to fix it all I have to do is hit escape then click resume game once I've joined the game, you could try that. Other than that as some dude said earlier it's the good ol' uninstall-reinstall I'm afraid.

I think the bigger question here is why did you use Fileplanet?

I was just going to say that... seriously when using a mirror... NEVER choose file planet. Spend 10 minutes finding a mirror that doesn't require a login or a wait. Do not waste 2 hours of your life on fileplanet.

    Exactly.

If even <i>1</i> KB or MB is missing from the file you downloaded, then it will not install/function properly or well enough to be used/enjoyed.

<b>(DO NOT TRY THIS!)</b> Cutting out some of your kidney is a good example. <b>(DO NOT TRY THIS!)</b>

-edit- try downloading it again from a non-fileplanet-esk site (no wait, no line, good speed/connection stable) and uninstal and then re-install. it should work. also make sure you have the latest drivers and the drive defragmented.

Happens to me too when I create a LAN/Public server for any Half-Life mod.

I just Esc. and Resume and it's all fine afterwords.

It is a page flipping bug, try going to your drivers and see if there's an option to select what type. Of course, I can't guarantee it'll fix it, because that bug seem to have returned for me when I host, so it could be driver specific too.

Well if it makes any condolences, I didn't waste my time idley watching my life tick away...I had to waste that time cutting up at least a 40 foot tree that practically K.O.ed my car.

    I'll try tommarow hitting up a different d/l site, uninstall/reinstall...but now I must bid farewell, for chocolate pudding cake <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

Yea, it is a problem with half-life.

Your "print screen" button copies the picture onto clipboard, so all you have to do is paste it somewhere...

A good fix for this is before you goto internet games, press the "console" button (not the key, but the button on the screen). Then exit out of the console, then continue to do whatever it is you were going to do.
