Hey i have an idea for real fun map for ns.....though i dont know shiznit about mapping....and dont really have the time to learn how to...so i want to know if anyone would be interested in creating this.... <!--emo&::marine::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/marine.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='marine.gif'><!--endemo-->

The map will be 1 big large....pitchblack, except for a light in the center of the map where the rines spawn at...the hives will also be in the open but in the corners, rines will not be able to see them except if they use thre flashlights...or wield certain panels to bring light in on the hives and area...So u have there will be no vents or hidden rooms...just 1 with rts out in the open up for grabs...this is the pretty abstract version of it but this is pretty much it...let me know wat yall think...

anyway heres a basic map of the....map...yeh....
at the beginning the marines see the map normal lighted but after an warning sound the lights switch off, exept one singel bulp at the spawn. the fun would come from the fact that if you use your flashlight aliens will see you instantly. you might be not able to see them if looking in the wrong dirrrection.

That is the error it gives me when I try to run the map. It has done that before with other maps and I would like to know how to fix this. Can anyone help?
nah! I really want to see this map but when I think about it... sometimes it takes me 2 hours just to find out the perfect texture set for my maps. so its the "boxmap" idea, right? I will make a playable map. the chance to get it official is 0% but thats not what Im workinfg for. btw: if such a map would suck... who cares? many people give a **** about what really sucks. this crappy nonsense maps like siege and such. the map has to be balanced. I will give it a try. create a "normal" map but only left out the lights. that doesnt mean the map will 100% dark. a friend gt the idea that marines should be forced to welder some specific (but enormous dangerous!) spots in the map to at least light some important corridors. maybe this could be connected with an "only 2 hives" scenary. will think about it... and still ike the idea <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

Im very sorry but I dont even call this a testmap.
Im not a person who enjoys flamming but one thing: FIRST OF ALL LERN TO USE THE GRID IN THE EDITOR! I wonder that there was no leakerror, the tiling is the worst and the vising/ lightning takes forever cause you build one big room, which is the number one of the "never do it" list!
and how should the hide an hunt work if there is only one possible way to proceed to the hives? its one of the "no chance for level 1 aliens" maps.
now I dont have to be afraid anyone got me right...

ok hard jb but made it.
you forgot the entities info_mapinfo and info_gameplay. otherwise ns doenst know that it is a ns map. you messed up the gridsizes completely. added some "structure" that is quite stupid and simple but gives more sense to the map.

give it a try. the file contains the compiled map (took quite long for this few lights) and the rmf file. you can build on it if you wish to. but as I stated abouve I dont like the boxlike layout. but this can easily be changed.
If I have time I will start such a map. I will construct a map like (<!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->) ... dunno... eclipse dimensions and leave out the lights. to this point we will all know if thi kind of gameplay will have any sense to the community. but infact it has some potential...

...and about theh deminsions of the map...i dont care...as long as the concept is still the same...ty man

also i was thinking if this map started to be to much of a rine or skulk advantage then holes could be added...so no running in the dark for anyone espcially for skulks

ok now I understood. have to lern more vocabularies I think...
but holes in the ground where "things" die ... I dont think that this would be fun unless there is a little traceline around those holes, that in fact isnt lighted only slightly brighter then the environment. the problem is the linear design <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->
I ask myself what jetpacker looks like when they "fly high in the sky" with flashlight on. and even if its off you surely will see the "flames" of the jp because this is a sprite, sprites are some kind of entities and entities are allways lighted (take a look at the resnozzles in the dark).
