    uh if someone is going to use it wouldn't that involve 'stealing' the idea? If you want to contribute to the community then do it. No one is making anything proprietary around here.

    well alright..heres the plan....
    ...ahem...
    The map will be 1 big large....pitchblack, except for a light in the center of the map where the rines spawn at...the hives will also be in the open but in the corners, rines will not be able to see them except if they use thre flashlights...or wield certain panels to bring light in on the hives and area...So u have there will be no vents or hidden rooms...just 1 with rts out in the open up for grabs...this is the pretty abstract version of it but this is pretty much it...let me know wat yall think...

    Sounds like a simple 'fun' map. Tough to say exactly which side it would be unbalanced for - On one side you have that aliens would be able to absolutely destroy marines because the marines wouldn't have a chance in the dark - on the other hand marines could effectively destroy the aliens hive without taking a step since it's just a big room, they'd just need to fire in the direction of the hive. And if marines got turrets or seige up - aliens would be toast. I don't think it'd be too good personally, but misslecommand is still getting around so who knows. If you want, draw a picture of where you want the res nodes and hives and I could put it together for you pretty quick.

    It sure is an interesting idea, and something I wouldn't mind having a stab at. Main problems are as shadowics pointed out, another point is that the aliens too cant see in pitch-black (unless im mistaken). A nice touch would be to have the rooms very close to pitch black, with little weld points that are fully lit (like the marine spawn) that can be welded and open a button of sorts, allowing the marines to see more.

    Aliens can't see in pitch dark either - unless they got sensory chambers and enhanced hive sight. Even without that though, marines start will be lit up and and people filling up on ammo will be picked off on a regular basis. And any marine who actually uses the flashlight lights up like a lightblub himself and would undoubtably be killed in short order. He mentioned having weldpoints that would turn on more lights, and It's possible to have the rooms not-quite pitchblack, though that would really only help the marines more.

    'Fun' maps aren't always fun to play but can be fun to make, so let me know.

    well i suppose instead of pitch-black a kind of dark red...and the weild points could be lit up.....as for the hives a barrier could be made around of them so rines cant just shoot from a deistance...and as for the light on the rines it is just part of the map...

    sounds like an idea me and a friend had. with one exeption: the map wasnt planned to be "a funmap". it should be a real map but... simply dark. nice touch would be some additives that look lighted but in fact they rent. another idea was to force the marines to use their flashlights when moving through normal ways. airducts would be lighted slightly.
    at the beginning the marines see the map normal lighted but after an warning sound the lights switch off, exept one singel bulp at the spawn. the fun would come from the fact that if you use your flashlight aliens will see you instantly. you might be not able to see them if looking in the wrong dirrrection.
    this would make the map more "hunter and hunted"-like. love th idea <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    one possible solution is MT. If you upgrade it, you at least know the general idea of where those pesky little buggers are. Dunno how well it would work in a huge room, since technically it's all within the marine line of sight. guess you'd have to try

    well actually mt ans parasite would be pretty useless since there will be no walls and everyone will be in the open....and gravity i like the idea of it light then alarms goes and dark...now that cold be both a fun map and a real map...depending on who is playing....

    That is the error it gives me when I try to run the map. It has done that before with other maps and I would like to know how to fix this. Can anyone help?

    It sounds like an unual config problem, not an error in the map. I've never seen it before though, so I'm not sure how to fix it.

    nah! I really want to see this map but when I think about it... sometimes it takes me 2 hours just to find out the perfect texture set for my maps. so its the "boxmap" idea, right? I will make a playable map. the chance to get it official is 0% but thats not what Im workinfg for. btw: if such a map would suck... who cares? many people give a **** about what really sucks. this crappy nonsense maps like siege and such. the map has to be balanced. I will give it a try. create a "normal" map but only left out the lights. that doesnt mean the map will 100% dark. a friend gt the idea that marines should be forced to welder some specific (but enormous dangerous!) spots in the map to at least light some important corridors. maybe this could be connected with an "only 2 hives" scenary. will think about it... and still ike the idea <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Yea, everytime I make a RR by itself it compiles fine. But when I add a room that is part of the map to it I won't let me run it. I will go ahead and link the source to see if anyone else wants to give it a shot at compiling.

    Im very sorry but I dont even call this a testmap.
    Im not a person who enjoys flamming but one thing: FIRST OF ALL LERN TO USE THE GRID IN THE EDITOR! I wonder that there was no leakerror, the tiling is the worst and the vising/ lightning takes forever cause you build one big room, which is the number one of the "never do it" list!
    and how should the hide an hunt work if there is only one possible way to proceed to the hives? its one of the "no chance for level 1 aliens" maps.

    now I dont have to be afraid anyone got me right...

    ok hard jb but made it.
    you forgot the entities info_mapinfo and info_gameplay. otherwise ns doenst know that it is a ns map. you messed up the gridsizes completely. added some "structure" that is quite stupid and simple but gives more sense to the map.

    Yea I made it in 10 minutes and made it just like the layout that he posted. So it is not like it is my design I just made it for the guy because he asked for help.

    this file was meant as help. the problem was that the worldbrushes had not been fitted together in the way the are supposed to. I only added some walls to give this map a little more sense. btw: I love the light at the marinestart that lights the com. I playtested the map and it was quite funny to die wile your flashlight was pointed in another direction XD

    give it a try. the file contains the compiled map (took quite long for this few lights) and the rmf file. you can build on it if you wish to. but as I stated abouve I dont like the boxlike layout. but this can easily be changed.
    If I have time I will start such a map. I will construct a map like (<!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->) ... dunno... eclipse dimensions and leave out the lights. to this point we will all know if thi kind of gameplay will have any sense to the community. but infact it has some potential...

    ok now I understood. have to lern more vocabularies I think...

    but holes in the ground where "things" die ... I dont think that this would be fun unless there is a little traceline around those holes, that in fact isnt lighted only slightly brighter then the environment. the problem is the linear design <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

    I ask myself what jetpacker looks like when they "fly high in the sky" with flashlight on. and even if its off you surely will see the "flames" of the jp because this is a sprite, sprites are some kind of entities and entities are allways lighted (take a look at the resnozzles in the dark).
