Im new.
K, so i only recently started playing with worldcraft, though Im not a full on newbie anymore, so dont pull all your punches. So far, ive got two rooms done and the Main Sanctuary Started. The idea for this map is that, considering where in the future, theres probobly a lot of people. Those people have to worship somehwere, assuming there is a religion of the future. Using some Artistic liscence, I am saying that, in the future, their are cathedrals the size of ships. So why not have ships that are giant cathedrals. Here goes a few.

First, the Marine start. That tube in the ceiling is going to be the "drop tube" from a ship docked to it, but there is still a lot of work to be done on it. The marine start on the whole has been kinda last minute.

Here is the Hall that started it all. I odnt care if you dont like the texture i put on the insides of the arches, I do!!!. heh heh.

Here is another hallway, these lead from the marine start to the beginning of the fighting, so the lack of cover is intentional. They arent really intended to have too much alien marine action but rather, they serve to delay the marines to give the aliens time to get into position.

Here is the zoomed out view of the stairway room, I know its a tad dark, but I think its nice and moody, this leads up to the first "real room" of the map. That is, the first truly intended to see lots of action. Still, I can forsee particularly enterprising alien teams pushing this far, so maybe some cover in here might help. But hte pillars and shadows might serve.

Here is a close up view of what a marine might see before entering the first sanctuary of the ship.

Now, my latest piece of woik. Its a little bare bones but its big so I need to keep r_speeds down to make it condusive to fighting.

Here is a view of the preach zone. I think the little idviders and the architecture provide decent cover, with the advantage going to the marines, who control the raised platform. This is only 18 seconds away fro mthe marine start, so I figured this would be a great room for a marine last stand or a marine H.Q.
How does the preacher of future preach? With E-Preach!

This is the best shot of the first Sanctuary. I like it cause it shows the archy ceiling. The flyer aliens could have ots of fun up there.

Now, before you post your criticisms, let me say what I already know is worng with my works so far. I know there are no doors leading into or out of the sanctuary. They will lead out from either side of the altar and in from the top of the platform and back of the room. I know that lighting in the sanctuary is too dim back by the platform. I wanted to get these posted and have to get off soon. I also know that my mapping skillz aren't up to par with a lot of people. As long as you dont re-state what I already know, I'm fine with any criticism, no matter what it is.

Alright, I like what you've done so far. I must say that the electronic texturing in the cathedral seems a little odd, but I must say that the use of those lights as a "window" texture looks pretty good.

Yeah, it was tough to resist putting in a nice churchy texture for those panels, but Iwanted to keep it high tech wehile having it be old churchy. It'll be tough to tweak it just right of course.

Only one word can properly describe those shots...

Arch-ilicious!

I didn't know it was possible to make such nice looking curves in WC (and you know I'm all about curves... mapping aside). Nice job humbaba. That church effect is.... interesting... Probably the first NS map ever to feature a pulpit :-D

That reminds me.... how's Gilgamesh doing these days? :-D

Heres a neato shot of the ceiling. mmmm. curvishness.

Everything still looks good there. I might suggest adding some kind of trimming where the ceiling and the wall textures meet, and possibly add a little light on the far side of the cathedral, but that's it.

Sheesh! Thats one pretty map!
Your map has a reely unique look to it! As my mapping skills are rated with a negative number I cannot actually give you any technical advice..But what would be cool is if you could add some censers( for those who dont know: censers are globes or bowls filled with smoke-producing substances, often incense. They are usually suspended from chains)
The censers would produce an area of smoke that functions as additional cover...

Thats a sweet idea, thanks for the ceiling tip to greedo. I'll put both in. Thanks y'all.

I still don't like the lightning in the 2nd and 3th screenshot, to much blue i guess and not enough contrast, they don't fit in with the other sreenshots as well, the architecture is good it's just the lightning, a bit darker and less blue would be great. rest of the pictures seem ok

I'm all for dim lighting, but ive heard all too often from some that theyre too dark. Dunno, guess i'll have to ocmpromise. Personally, I think they are too bright also.

Wow, that's really awesome! I love the Gothic architecture that you put into this map...I'm a huge fan of Heretic and Hexen so I really appreciate it.
One thing I would change is the staircase in the 4th and 5th pictures you posted initially. It looks kinda weird having a staircase built out of blocks that attach to the wall like that, maybe add another wall to the other side of the stairs. Also, the computer thing in the middle of the sanctuary (7th pic) sticks out like a sore thumb. First, it's textured using standard HL textures(right?), second, TBH that's a pretty poor use of those textures. Sorry

But don't get me wrong, I love the feel of the map and I think you're doing an incredible job for a first map. It looks entirely different from any other NS map while still retaining some common elements. I'm really looking forward to this.

cool theme. the architecture is a bit blocky, and the lighting is very simple. kind of reminds me of q2. revise these two things and i think it would look a hell of a lot better.

fingertips... cool down... a mapper only releases pics when he wants to. Of course he has more pics, for gods sake he has the level. He could release it in its not finished state. But what fun would that be?
• humbabahumbaba That Exciting Tales From the Frontline Guy Join Date: 2002-01-25 Member: 86Members, NS1 Playtester, Contributor
Thanks Shuvit. Its O.k, I know fignertips. He goes to my schooo. We hang out. If he complains about r_speeds. Slap him or kick him under the table. I will post new stuff when inspirtation returns for this map. Kind of lost it right now. Patience. . . .
