Aliens Themed Map

<div class="IPBDescription">An idea that I wish I could do.</div> Since there are so many great Aliens-themed skins and models, I was thinking that it would be kickin' rad to have a map that was not unlike the spaceship in Aliens (The parts where the marines are grouped together in the dark, slime-covered halls.) The ceilings could be quite high to allow for lots of creepy alien wall-crawling.

It would be really awesome if say, it wasn't quite a normal NS scenario in the fact that maybe the marines can't respawn, but the aliens can respawn a few times. The goal for the marines would be to destroy the hive without dying. Instead of an RTS with buildings, the map could play out like a scene from a movie.

There could be a few rooms where the marines can regroup and get new ammo/armor/healing if they make it that far. It could have plexiglass walls or something, it would be really creepy to hang out in that room (Again, somewhat like the room in Aliens where they're looking at the blueprint/map thingy) and see the aliens outside.

I don't know. There are a lot of ideas to play with this. Unfortunately, I can't map and I lack the time needed to learn how to do something like this. I hope someone else can maybe get inspiration from my vision and map it out. The skins and models are already there, there are great aliens, pulse rifles etc... We just need a map scenario that FEELS like Aliens.

Anyone else think this would be cool?

    Just had a thought. There could be dedicated server(s) running this pseudo-mod/skins/map kind of like CS servers run the Warcraft 3 mod.

    U mean like a last stand for the marines?

    like the last hope of eradicating the evil scum of the aliens. sounds cool to me except it has the potential to go horribly wrong : Marines f4 ing etc...

    Yeah. Something like that. Like a group of marines fending off a bunch of aliens (the respawning limit for the aliens could be set higher to simulate there being more of them :-D)

    It would be a new kind of tactical thing. Plus the sheer ambience of hearing the pulse rifle blip as your group is creeping down the narrow hallway with the flashlights on arouses me.

    Wot about ammo?? would the marines start with full ammo?? otherwise they woudl run out pretty early in teh start of the match

    How many hives would there be?

    Say there's one hive in a specific room. Think of the big Queen Alien hanging around in her hatchery.

    There are multiple hallways (long, slimy, creepy, atmospheric hallways) and several rooms where the marines can rest/wait/regroup/whatever. These rooms also have ammo, weapons, health, etc. The marines could always get ammo from the rooms, but the challenge is:

    A) Not to die.
    B) Not to run out of ammo in the middle of a firefight.
    C) To destroy the hive.

    The "regroup rooms," as I'll call them, could also have vents above them that the aliens could get into (I'm picturing the scene from Aliens where they're crawling through the vents on the upper level in that red room and the marines are firing at them trying to stop them from coming into the room below that the marines are in.)

    If anything it should simply be a last stand.

    My favorite parts always been the skulks vs LMG marines early on witht he whole rush.

    Not if they wanted to get to the hive.

    Okay, maybe the aliens can infinitely respawn. That way the marines can't stay in the same place.

    The Endgame with the aliens winning is a pretty cool last stand. onos, skulks, fades and lerks all pouring into u and u gotta sit there and hope u they dont break ur defences

    It would be like CS, but instead of Terrorists against Cops, it would be Marines Vs Aliens.

    And the marines could plant the bomb, and try to run before it explodes. Since aliens dont have hands (Fades have claws), they wouldnt be able to defuse it, so the aliens would have to stop the marines before they plant it.

    And it could be like CS also when the round start and you have to buy weapons. You could buy a HA, or a Jetpack, or an HMG...

    How about make it actually something good? I mean you can make it like the fun maps, Medium sized map, 1 or 2 hive spots, no CC. Marines start in a small room with a door and benchs. There are as few HA packs (2 maby?) with hmgs on them, 2 welders, 1 nader and a shotty. The room there in is the landing ship that they came in. On top of the ship is a func_tank (machine gun) which shoots any aliens camping outside door and prevents rines walking into a WOL. after say 3-5 min? the door opens to the colony. There would be only a couple res points to prevent WOLs. The gorge would be more likely to quickly get a hive and fade than to make wols due to time. The rute to the hivewould require some welding and would be pretty long. There should be alot of weldables and vents. Sounds pretty good. the major con i see is waiting 5 min for a 5 min game. also needs alot of team work to work. The other way i see is all marines go in instantly, and there are left over hmgs, HA on the ground from an earlier wave or colonists. Which they pick up on the way to stop them owning skulks in a couple seconds. the route to the hive should not vary much and be pretty much one or 2 ways. The only thing stopping the rines is alot of weldable places which take up to a min to weld to get through. by the time the mariens ge tto the hive the aliesn should have atleast one fade up. Any way thats my idea of the map change/ suggest any thing you want.

    I have done the Ready Room (apart from lighing) but i aint got the textures as if it was like Aliens but in-game i am making it like it

    EDIT : but i am making it more as a lab place (aliens themed)

    The second i read that i as finished with this thread. It sounded interesting and had posibilities, but no longer. Stick to the original plan and you might have something.

    dont want to flame anyone but the game like cs? believe it or not: there are some people out there that are happy NOT TO PLAY CS! maybe its a funny alternative for the bunch of cs kiddies out there. I dont like the idea too much. marines only have one live. even when the dod team decided to integrate this system for a few maps, they had to change it because noone liked it. maybe one life is realistic but the fun of the game will die. a cause might be that the aliens are just too strong when attacking in packs. and dont forget this: the aliens can build defense chamber so the marines have to mess with carapce level 3. END OF LINE FOR THE "FUN"!!!
    I would like a map that is really creepy and alienlike but with real gamplay. and even if someone decides to make a map however: dont fix this "boxmap" idea! try to make real maps that burn into your brain when playing and not ending in the windows trashcan... btw: I dont know why everyone uses the task "funmap". maybe little cs maps are called this but in ns the official maps ARE THE REAL FUN!

    well i've thought of making this kind of map after i finish the one i'm working now, but the marines can build normally and have their ammos etc. After, they're just infiltrating to aliens' slimy caverns to destroy them once and for all. But there's one catch: comm can't see everywhere and therefore can't be in touch with the marines at some point of map. The effect from comm view could be something like the ant war you see on telly when there's no other programm coming <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

    i hate cs as mutch as anyone of you , but i still think we coud make somthing
    like the idé :aliens can respawn , marins have to hold the aliens and kill ther hive
    maybe to prevent camping , a time limit ?
    this woud be good even if ther wherent any alien skins , quite fun to do whith ns to i think....

    I have the idea of a lifetime...One hive...Only one...An uber hive...3x as much health if possible...Chances are it'll take coding...Oh well. Marines start out wherever, along the way, is an armory, which HMG's and the rest of the stuff. The aliens have time limites where they can go up in levels and the such (5 min into game, lerk comes, 10 min, fade, 20, onos). But, there need to be dark hallways...Very Alien friendly atmosphere. Marines have one Infantry Portal, which is in an indestructable area. That way they respawn slow. The armories have limited weapons and the such of course, so marines dont really want to die. Now, I stess the points of DARK HALLWAYS. Not like pitch black dark, but dark. Scary things and the such, and, against all NS rules, gore. It's a point of scaring the h*** out of the people. Dead bodies, everything else, have fun. You need to make it a mod of a mod though, and have it be downloadable and the such. What do I think of it? I'm already designing a level.

    Do you guys actually realise how large the area where Aiens takes place is?...
    Just finished watching the movie (damn good movie) and even tho most of the action takes
    place within the colony complex the hive is waayyyy out there in the atmosphere processor.

    If there is an Alien themed map the only thing i can see it being any thing like the film is the textures.
    It would be too big to create.
