definetely yes! because there is much to test out. btw I dont know why most people hate the dark night. the night is mysterious and has its own beautyful face... I remember many positiv things related to the night. of course a ns map wouldnt be so nice. more like a nightmare you only can escape by pressing f4. the readyroom should also be kinda dark. only iluminated signs for the joinmode...
Hey, I'm still here! I'm making ns_dark based on your suggestions and I have only one flickering light in the RR. I'm also putting some work into the weldable lights so it'll be a little bit before I release a beta map.
Curious... Why are you making another map? It has already been made. It is called ns_pitchblack and is on the 2nd page. Don't bother with making a new one that is the same as ns_pitchbalck! and the source in included too.
I said that it was based on his ideas - essentially a map that is mostly dark. There are many different ways you can make a map that is pretty dark.... ns_dark is somewhat similar to ns_pitchblack, however my idea for ns_dark hasn't changed because of pitchblack. I was the first one to say I would be interested in making a map like that, and I'm going to finish it 'cause I want to
well ns_pitchblack is still the hizzlefoshizzle....so why make a whole knew one when one is already done except for some minor details and the weildspots......
that was the cause I put the .rfm into the zip. I had this idea some weeks ago but this talked about it first, released a weird map and I took some minutes of my freetime to give it a little more sense. no credits included see it as a gift to build on. never believed that it would be such a fun because I still hate the boxstyle. but for testing purposes quite well... another idea would be a trigger, that lights the surrounding every 30 seconds for one second and then... pitchblack again imagine "ok lets jp rush the hive." - "ok" - "three, two , one..." - "lets go!" - "hey anybody switched the lights out again!" - " whats that noise?" - "**** Im webbed!!!"
hmm i like this sorta open source mapping =D ill download this when i get home and give sum feed back ... ;
hey guys, this map sounds fun, one thing that might be cool would be to make those pits that kill things that you were talking about around the rine start with weld points to close them. This way skulks can get in but rines can't get out of little area untill some of the pits are closed...
just an idea... this map sounds like something i would like
I dunno... this is possibly not too funny when you fall to death because of nothing. and why the hell is should be easier for the skulks to come into the base? the hives are lighted, the marine start isnt! it is hard enough for the marines to hit anything in the dark. my suggestion would be the other way round: there are weldable doors but they willl open so skulks fall to death. from the marine side there are some tracelights are switched on but only visible if you leave the marinebase. the fun for aliens would be forcing the marines to go back to their base and the marines, not knowing where the "holes" are, get in panic.
well the weildspots would be all over....like 4 out side the rine start on the building....and 1+ at the hives...1 for the light and if there would be holes to open then maybe 3 or 4 in each hive.....also 1 in the opposite end of the map where a 4th would be that would light up rine start.....naturally all of these would be made long to weild....and with the light on when to rines present that would be sweet....forces them to stay in base but then again its dark....
I thought it useful building phasegates all over to light the environment XD but its expensive... funny thing: marines will hit nothing in the dark but unfortunately the aliens wont, too ROFL it had been fun playing this map although I hate this small little"non effort" maps. have to play it one more time play it at (ask for it):
Templers Custom Fight Center PW:nostromo|62.93.201.6:27300
when I got time I will make this damn welderpoints. but its simply suicide to rush a hive with jp, not knowing what is in the dark...

I've been playtesting ns_dark... and all I've gotta say is that it's one of the freakiest, scariest, and most kickass funmaps I've ever seen.... I suggest u guys try it... it rocks! (it feels like a skulk is about to jump you ne second)
I must admid that ns dark is quite good. I like the spaces in the ceil where you can see the "sky" or whatever. so you get a slight orientation. only the ceiling texture has to be rescaled. flashlightcone is so wide, that it breaks at the end of the patches. and plz dont say "funmap" like we were in cs where the normal maps suck. the official maps are fun. custom maps are funnier. and although this map is small like the crappy boxmaps like siege, pillbox, drop etc. it is a whole other thing with this map. will see where this style takes us to. "the really pitch black mappack v1.0" and ns_dark had been added on Templers server
Yeah, I know how the flashlight on the ceiling looks bad. I scaled it up to cut down the wpolys a little, the map's so wide open they're pretty bad in some places, who looks at the ceiling anyway? I've retextured it to pure black to see how that looks, and you don't notice the scale since the flashlight doesn't show up at all. Also on the list is some ambient sound, though not much because you really need to hear that pitter-patter of little skulk feet
Also I happen to know Mac hasn't ever played CS, neither have I. What should he call it? The not-official map? The Something-played-for-fun-but-not-a-funmap map?
Funny thing is, too, this map is rather bigger than the official maps (I'm not exactly sure, by the z-axis, but I know in terms of x/y it is) It just doesn't seem like it because it's large areas instead of many small rooms and halls.
Templers server? cool, I'll have to see if I can get on
not played cs? is this possible? dont fool me... shure the map is bigger than the officials but doestn seem to because of its uncomplex layout. allways happens with such maps. regularly this kinda maps are known as "boxmaps" for serious mappers (not funmap because its a cs word ) the map Im working on is slightly more complex than the boxmaps but the gameplay will not be too different. jup no but I still got no time...
The concept is actually pretty good. I played ns_dark with a friend of mine (Me on aliens, him on marines) The darkness gives the aliens the advantage of stealth while the wide open spaces give the marines the advantage of range. Motion tracking and enhanced hive sight are almost essential. He started turret farming, 'because it was so spooky, I never knew when you were going to jump out and attack me'. So I teched up to fades, (unlike many 'fun' maps, the hives and res are all seperate, not all lumped together) but by then he had grenade launchers. So we were in a stalemate for awhile, All in all it was a fun game. I suspect if it were played with a large group of people there would be people camping around every corner and large rushes from both sides back and forth. The darkness incourages cooperation, marines sticking in groups for protection, skulks rushing in groups from different direction to attack in the confusion.
