'startmovie' Not Working Right

Please don't blame it on the timedemo because I've tried all of them (playdemo, viewdemo, and timedemo) all give me the same result. Startmovie only seems to take the first frame/picture and thats it!!!! WTH is going on? yes, it's frames per second, not frames.
make sure you don't have any files that begin with the specified prefix and make sure you have a lot of free disk space.
