Cofr Fr31 Ns Going Down

<div class="IPBDescription">For All of you who have visited us</div> Since not all the players who have visited us on the server check our boards at www.cofrfps.com and www.cofr.net I thought it prudent to make an announcement here.

Brutus, who has been running and financing most of the server is withdrawing at the end of the month. He hasn't been playing the game for ages, never was a big fan of NS, and has finally decided to call it quits. I'd like to thank him for paying out of his own pocket for so long for a gaming service he didn't even use himself, even though other contributers have come and gone, Brutus has been doing most of the work and putting in most of the cash.

I'd also like to thank everyone that has played on the server. It has been my almost exclusive place of gaming when it comes to NS, and for a good reason, it's been the best. The admins have done a great job but the actual gaming experience is of course dependant on the players chosing to visit us and it has been awesome, some of the best gaming experiences of my life. Thanks a lot guys.

The server is going down at the end of this month and whatever will replace it has not been decided yet. I am working on a couple of things but nothing is close to being ready to be announced yet so as of now there is nothing taking over. This means that in effect June the 30:th will be the last day of gaming on the CoFR server for now. I hope to see all the regulars on the server up until then, even though I can't participate myself due to RL I hope you make the most of what time is left. <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'>

The NS part of CoFR is only a very small piece, the end of this server will hardly be a noticable change in traffic on CoFR resources. However, in my opinion, this has been the highest quality of games and gamers. I advice you to stick around CoFR so you know when (not if) our new Natural-Selection home comes online. Until then, try spreading the quality gaming on the public NS servers available or take up CS, BF1942, DoD or some other game that CoFR provides <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'>

It almost depresses me when reading this, though you keep a good attitude. It's just that I'm quite sad to see the NS [CoFR] server go down. It was THE best NS server I've been to and will remain so until the deadline. Let us and all the other regulars know when and where a replacement comes so we'll be able to play 1.1 on a server with the many players that I've come to respect.

Here Here! Well said Stoneburg. I'm very sad to see that it's going down, but very thankful for all the wonderful games I've played there and all the *great* people I've met. After such a quality gaming experience with so much teamwork and laughs, I fear having to go out into the world of pubs for my NS fix. I know I'll be putting all the regulars there into a buddy list in my GameSpy (yes I still use that, don't laugh!) so I can keep an eye out for all the wonderful players I've grown to enjoy gaming with so much. There's always been a level of teamwork and friendly people on FR31 that I've seen nowhere else.

And a huge kudos to Brutus. He's been running many different servers for CoFR for as long as I've been familiar with the group and I know what a financial burden that can be - especially if you don't really care to play the game that your server runs! Every server he's run has been an absolute pleasure to game on and this server in particular will be missed by many. GG's everyone!!!

I have been there only a small number of times, but I have to admit I never regretted it. Apart from the pings but that's what you get from oveatlantic <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'>

Anyway, I remember when that was announced on the server. Yeah it was shocking news, I couldn't expect such a good server going down. Even I, a non-regular, have been amazed and welcomed by everyone on the server and I must admit, even for someone who only came so few times, it's sad to know such a great server is closing its doors. I hope for all you regulars to get up another server as soon as you can though <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'>

CoFR itself is a great reason for why pubs can be good. Their strict regulation of certain (very simplistic) rules really sets <b>all</b> of their servers apart from the norm. Watching new strats develop, different strats be tried out, and the 'friendly' games of chase the fatty that would occur late at night will all be missed. CoFR will probably see me on their DoD servers more now that the NS one is going down. A big thanks to those who helped pay for the enjoyment I've been leaching from CoFR since the day I found it.

Seeing server closing because NS is gettin unpopular and slowly dying...

Brutus, we <3 you for everything you've done for us. Once I played on this server, I was instantly addicted to the community of skilled and friendly players. Since then I've been almost exclusively playing there, sometimes wondering off to find some other pub when it was empty.

I just hope we can find a viable substitute where all the regulars and irregulars can play together once again. This great community has made my NS experience so much better.

Games of CoFR were like scrims - every game, every time. To loose such a server is extremely upsetting, but looks like there is very little choice. The people who were regulars on that server were amazing players, execellent admins, and good friends. I have mentioned to some of the regs on that server that I am trying to get our, my clans, server to get CD. This just further pushs that idea into my head if there will be no more CoFR. Hopefully by June 30th our clans server will have CD, and hopefully I will see some CoFR regualrs there untill CoFR gets a new NS server up (If ever <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'> )

CoFR has housed some of my best NS games, ever.

I agree with this completely. We were all in virtual tears yesterday when someone said it was going down soon. CoFR has been the best server I've seen. Great group of people and pretty consistant fun games. Some of the best games I've played in the entire time I've been playing NS has been on CoFR. Additionally, there were none of the stupid deathmatch/gimmick maps, and that was why I first started playing.

Thanks for running it, I'm very sad to see it go!

Just because its popular doesnt make your server good Nitro. FFS the last time I played there the alien team were newbies, and every marine that would go near their hive would get banned. And we would keep gettting slayed over and over so we wouldnt touch them. If you call that fun, then you are seriously screwed up =/

No! I'm gonna miss that place, it was the greatest pub I've ever been to, and probably the greatest I'll ever go to. It was the only place I commanded in where people actually listened to me, it was a great group of mature players which made an environment that can scarcely be recreated.

The server isn't going down because of anything the DEV team did, Brutus was never really into NS.

But 1.1 CAN help the situation, because if there are significant cuts in server resource usage, there should be significant cuts in server hosting costs. And if the hosting costs go down it will be much more likely that the great group of people here can manage to carry on to a new server.

Of course this is irrelevant to the 1.1 release schedule, but it is something interesting to keep in mind.

Very sad day for me, I got lucky I guess, the very first server I joined when I installed NS was the CoFR server, actually it is the ONLY server I have ever played NS on! Best NS server I've ever been on. And I cannot express my thanks for having a reserve slot given to me.

I suppose it's been lucky for me that CoFR 31NS is being shut down after real life has picked up, and when I've all but stopped playing NS. Come 1.1, things'll return to their old ways. I'll see you guys on the battlefield.

Always sad to see the only server I play on go away. Lots of great memories from CoFR. Good games, good players, good times. The regulars are working to try and get a new server up. We'll let everyone know when that happens.
