<Larson> everything in that little video segment is only discarded trash material
<Larson> actual scenes look much better than this

well then -- we are in for a treat.

"Oh I'm so excited, that I just can't hide it, I'm about to lose control and I think I like it!"

I can hardly wait to see what else you've got done. How about a "test test" trailor?

Oh man. That is simply awesome.

That looks like it's going to be one of the coolest game fan-movies that I've ever seen.

The music is sweet. When the video is done, they should post the music so we can add it to NS. It's really atmospheric and spooky. It sortof reminds me of the begining of Super Metroid when you're running around on the stormy, dead, abandoned surface.

And the camera work is awesome. I love how it flies into the level and the camera movement in general.
  • CEldinCEldin Join Date: 2002-09-16 Member: 1323Members
The sporatic movement of the camera really gives you a feel for the whole thing, and the model rendering is simply amazing. If that was the best scene of the movie I would be incredibly impressed; the fact that it is one of the most basic ones makes made me wet my pants.
  • LarsonLarson Join Date: 2003-02-13 Member: 13522Members
I'm glad you all like even these very minimal beginnings.

It is definitely a hell lot of work to do, and you cheering us on
will greatly help in the process.
  • Chopper_Dave1Chopper_Dave1 Join Date: 2002-11-01 Member: 2353Members
The music rules, first of all.

I didn't really like the beginning part. Camera work seemed too...spastic. It just zoomed around too quickly, and didn't stop long enough to really take in the beauty of the shot. It reminded me of a poorly-cut fight scene, where the editor cuts back and forth so much between so many shots that all you end up comprehending is a bunch of flashes, a couple fists and feet here and there, and sound effects. Guess that's more of a matter of opinion though.

After that, the stuff was simply awesome. I can only imagine what sort of events provoked that marine getting tossed up against that wall like a doll. And the camera work for the "deployment" (or that's what it seemed like it was) in the Main Hold was awesome, very atmospheric.

And of course, the skulk kill ruled. But you don't need to hear that AGAIN, do you?

i watched it once, and set the player resolution lower, trying to reduce the choppyness.
i watched it again... still choppy.
i pump it all up to full and full screen.
    ...
    the same amount of choppy. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->
yup. thats how i like my movies. nice and choppy. couldn't catch a damn thing what with my 500mhz cpu, 256 mb of ram, and GeForce 2 that can play other movies just fine... yup. it's stiiill choppy. <!--emo&--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/mad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='mad.gif'><!--endemo-->

the only non-choppy (aka SMOOTH, and thus good) part was the marine getting attacked by the skulk and both falling to their deaths in the hole <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> . i guess if the rest of the movie was like that it's damn good then, but since it was so choppy on a fair machine like mine, i can only assume it was made to act like that. its funny. the HL2 movie trailer was quite smooth. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->

great movie, though. (aside from the choppyness in some parts)

Wow, that was beautiful. I agree that the camera is a little spin-happy at the beginning, but I really liked the *very* beginning, zooming through the maps - extremely surreal, in a good way. (:

Can't wait to see the whole thing, Regis -- great job!!!!!!!!!

Looking very good... It's from the same makers as <a href='http://www.cscentral.com/militia2' target='_blank'>Miltia 1 and 2</a> which won GameSpy's 2002 user made movie and has aired on cable, sattilite TV networks and many film festivals. If you havnt seen militia 1 and 2 go watch them now.

thanks everyone for the replies (wvu coil)! To answer a few of the questions I've been receiving:

    1. When will the trailer come out?
The trailer was comprised of alot of these test shots, and was going to be released Monday. However, after Monse h4xed me and forced the test footage from my grubby hands, I'm going to remake the trailer and give it the more theatrical feel (it will explain the storyline, etc). So we are unsure of when it will be released at this time.

    2. Video choppy.
Update divx, latest version is 5.0.5. If it's still choppy, I highly recommend the mpeg version.

    3. Will it be released in parts?
No, it will be 1 movie. Judging from the script, I'd say it will be around 20 - 25 minutes in length. (subject to change)

    4. What map is at the very beginning flyby clip?
There are all the official maps in that shot, the first map that you fly "through" is eclipse, i believe.

I'm very happy with the overall acceptance of these test shots, I can't speak for Larson, but I know the confidence is really making me work that much harder <!--emo&::marine::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/marine.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='marine.gif'><!--endemo-->
