Leon the Professional: The movie talks about how leon, a hitman, helps out Mathilda, a 12 year old girl who sees her family slaughtered by cops involved in drugs, and how they entertain a relationship.

Requiem for a Dream: Harry Goldfarb and his friends get involved in drugs to get money. And it doesn't turn out well. Meanwhile, Harry's mom gets pills to lose weight so she can get a red dress to be on a tv show.

The Devil's Advocate: Kevin Lomax is a very talented lawyer, and when he gets news from John Milton that he can get "promoted" with better cases and more money, he jumps on the deal, without thinking back about his surroundings/way of life, nor why he is such a talented lawyer (never lost a case)

Road to Perdition: Michael Sullivan is at the service of the mafia, and everything degenerates when his mentor's son sets him up, killing his family, yet missing michael and his son (michael as well). They both go to Perdition seeking refuge while escaping Peter Rooney

    Ok, jumping in.

Grave Of The Fireflies (Anime): An extremely moving anime film from the creators of My Neighbour Totoro and Spirited Away. It tells the story of two young children in japan during the second world war. And basically shows their life, running away from their "evil" aunt and so on. I defy anyone that wouldn't cry during this. It's an excellent piece of filmmaking and a beautiful piece of writing.

Donnie Darko: Well, you probably all know it, fantastic indie film about a young(-ish) Donald Darko's mad mad life with an imaginary bunny rabbit. Absolutely fantastic work in comparison to the crap that's usually churned out.

My Neighbor Totoro (Anime): Amazing kid's film about two children and their adventures with "Totoro" (Mei, the young girl in the film, can't pronounce "Troll" so it came out as "Totoro"). Fantastic animation and a great storyline make this film entertaining for everyone and a joy to watch.

Pitch Black Im not sure if Im the only one who likes this movie or not. A group of space travelers crash land on another planet. It seems unhibated, until the sun goes down....
one of the best endings ever IMO

Leon the Profesional: Already discussed. Note: See the uncut version not the crappy US edited one

The Green Mile: Book is better, Tom hanks is a prison guard in the 1930s or so.

Band of Brothers: Awsome WW2 action, really good b/c everything in this 10 hour movie actualy happed in real life. Its very accurate. Directed by Stephen Speilburg and Tom Hanks. I have the dvd box xst. Im happu.

Appleseed: Japanese Manga film by the same directer as ghost in the shell. Film seems a little crapy to critics but its more of an intellectual film that you have to think.

The Matrix" The first one. ANd if you dont know waht its about well....

Purgatory: TNT Western starring (cant remember his name, guy who played General garrison in BlackHawk Down) All the dead great western figures such as Billy the kid, Wyat Erp, Buffalo Bill, etc after they died they all went to purgatory for one last chance for salvation.

Contact: People say this film sucked but I like it. About the first contact with aliens. but if you havnt seen the film. The aliens are nothing you expect them to be. In fact only one human sees an alien and the film never shows the aliens true form. Just see it its good.

Equilibrium: In a futuristic world, a strict regime has eliminated war by suppressing emotions: books, art and music are strictly forbidden and feeling is a crime punishable by death. Cleric John Preston is a top-ranking government agent responsible for destroying those who resist these rules. When he misses a dose of Prozium, a mind-alterering drug that hinders emotion, Preston, who has been trained to enforce the strict laws of the new regime, suddenly becomes the only person capable of overthrowing it...

The Matrix Reloaded: I don't think I need to explain this one...

The Matrix, The Matrix Reloaded (and very probably) The Matrix: Revolutions.
I'm pretty sure I don't need to explain why . All I could say for ten minutes after seeing The Matrix Reloaded (except for my shriek of anguish at the ending) was "Oh my ******* god. That was ******* amazing".

    Fight club
Brilliant. Unfortunately, I thought I was never going to see it (I didn't think it was my kind of movie) so I let someone spoil the story for me, which in the process told me that it was my kind of movie, so I in effect saw it the first time for the second time .

    Metropolis
It's an anime. It's about a not-too-futuristic-but-still-in-the-future city called Metropolis, in which robots are commonplace. Yeah, that doesn't make it sound too original, but it was truly brilliant. There was a whole lot of other stuff in there which I can't really describe adequately, and the rest I can't describe without spoiling the storyline.

    btw,

[edit again]Ooh! Ooh! Just remembered. The Sixth Day. It's an Arnie sci-fi action movie about human cloning. It's got enough action to be entertaining, but also a good solid plot and enough in it to make you think.[/edit again]

I just saw Donnie Darko for the first time. I don't even know what to say about that movie, other than right now, I feel like it's one of the best movies I've ever seen.

Much love to Richard Kelly for coming up with this little masterpiece.

The Rock - I enjoyed that movie thoroughly (spl?). Great mix of action and some gadgets. They also got the original James Bond to be the secret service agent Mason.

Speed - Just a constant action sequence. Great stuff!

The Score - Not many people have heard of this, surprisingly. Probably because there is more talk than there is action, great movie though about a professional thief who is offered a job in his home town, but one of his golden rules is never to operate in his town.

The Taking of Pelham 123 - A cold-blooded quartet hijack a New York subway train, then hold the city to ransom. Walter Matthau, as always, is great and it is bloody good and for me just pips the French Connection to the post of best film of all time.

Citizen Kane: considered by many (including me) to be the greatest movie of all time. See it. You must!

Dr. Strangelove: Dark comedy are funny and dark. This one is also very good.

Kentucky Fried Movie: Straight up funniest movie evar! Think Naked Gun X10 and with nudity.

Roger And Me: The movie that finally proved exactly when the blood back was open. (it's only open on Mondays and Tusdays.......and Wednesdays and Thursdays and Fridays. Saturday and Sunday they're closed)

Eraserhead: The perfect addition to any late-night freak-out session. Seriously this movie is weird to the max.

I'm not even gonna go into the anime movies that are good, there are just too many.

Maybe a little clarification is necessary here. Filmbuffs may think of the original Metropolis, a black and white film by Fritz Lang which is nowadays considered one of the first science fiction movies ever.
A good fifty years later, the comic Metropolis was created by Osamu Tezuka, one of the fathers of modern manga, after seeing a few pictures of the movie. This manga, in turn, was converted for the big screen by Katsuhiro Otomo, who's well known for his own creation, Akira.
So, in short, I suggest you take a look at both movies of the name. They share very little, but are both considered classic representatives of their times sci-fi.

But make sure you get the newly discovered footage of Metropolis(the old metropolis) version, without it the story is kind of weak and the chracters lose a lot of their depth.

Lots of creepy scenes and some very far out stuff. Very, very bloody, yet very scary.
    Sam Neill and Lawrence Fishburne

Sphere A spaceship of unknown origin is found on the sea bed, and a team of scientists are send down to check it out. Inside the ship, which probably is of human origin, they find a huge sphere. What they don't know is that the sphere can make dreams come true. That include nightmares.
